We received a lovely warm welcome on arrival, the pitches are hardstanding with plenty of room. The showers and toilets were spotless, Brilliant on site dog walk,

The site is well maintained by Fran and Jen, they are very passionate about the area they live in and always have time to advise you of walks or where to have a day out.

We had some lovely walks some from the campsite and some we parked by Loch Trool. Thank you for Making us feel so welcome and hope to visit again soon

Wow! what a superb find. Quiet, remote, relaxed, clean facilities, lovely owners, saw golden Eagle over Merrick, Osprey and chick (through telescope)at Loch Trool amazing!

Long scenic walks in and around Glentrool forest, and as the owners say arrived a GOA (grumpy on arrival) and left a COD (chilled on departure)!

Will definitely be back but not in June! too many midges lol!

What a beautifully kept site! Fran and Jen both do their utmost to give you a warm welcome and nothing is too much trouble.

The pitches are all flat and big for motorhomes/caravans and there is a lovely grass area for the tents. A dog walk area, complete with dog bin (which I was disappointed that some campers did not use!) and a beautiful pond.

Spotlessly clean toilets and showers, dog wash, washing machine and drier, clothes line and pot wash - all kept in pristine condition.

Nearby hotel/pub 8 minutes walk up the road one way and stunning Glen Trool Loch about 1 and half miles to the visitor centre, the other way. Free wifi too! My one and only gripe - nothing to do with the campsite and out of the owners control is the dog owners of fellow campers.

Why do people insist on not putting their dogs on leads? Why oh why do they not pick up after their animals? I have three dogs of my own and manage that quite easily. This is not the only site it happens on and if everyone is not careful, dogs will be banned from campsites full stop and camping with our furry friends will be a thing of the past!

That aside, you couldn't wish for more pleasant owners, they have a great sense of humour and I would stay there again in a trice! Excellent

Another wonderful site, what a difference it makes to not allow cars next to tents! No slamming doors or alarms going off etc.

This site is run by 2 lovely ladies who understand what it is like and what you need to camp. They have a wealth of knowledge and are very happy to provide advice on walking, cycling, eating and wildlife; they obviously love the area and it shows.

The site is well laid out and a lot of effort has been put into this site to make it work so well. The bothy, picnic benches & washing lines are a welcome facility.

The shower & toilets blocks were spotless and the shop was well stocked. The pub a 2 minute walk downhill (you will need a torch) serves great food & beer, it takes a bit longer to walk back though! We are definitely going to return to this campsite.

Glentrool is simply amazing. Superb facilities on spacious pitches - as good as any Caravan Club - but set in remote, peaceful surroundings surrounded by great natural beauty and forest adventure. Dark sky means just that - it is amazing! And wi-fi faster than I can get at home too.

The care taken by the owners was of the highest order - and the on-site facilities cannot be faulted ( not by me anyway - and I am fussy).

Go - relax - enjoy - and support a site owner who really cares. Great pub just down the road too. Ask about the hanger steaks !

Our second visit to Glentrool as a stopover while walking the Southern Upland Way again. Last year we thought the campsite couldn't be bettered but the wonderful, friendly ladies who own and run it have proved us wrong. The thought and obvious sheer hard work that has gone into the site is outstanding and they have managed to further transform the site in just 12 months. For the walker carrying all their gear the sight of lovely showers and a laundry is a wonderful thing but when the Bothy is discovered it gets very hard to leave the next morning. In the inclement British weather a lovely, dry bothy with a kettle and microwave is heaven for a tent dweller, particularly in a one-man hiking tent! The site is in a fantastic location with a very good bistro pub 5 minutes walk down the road. Reception has a good shop with all the basics and a selection of microwavable meals which can be heated in the Bothy. I'm itching to bring our campervan up to Glentrool to show my wife how lovely the countryside is and just how good a campsite can be. I can only thank the two lovely lassies who made us so welcome and hope to visit again soon.

Recently returned from a lovely relaxing week here. Shower facilities were great and clean and there was even a free hairdryer to use, which was great as I never thought to pack mine.

No playground on site but there were a few children on site who didn't seem to mind.

Onsite shop was great and I thought prices were very reasonable!

The site is close to lots of beautiful places and we felt we had a good central location.

Pitch sizes were excellent too, plenty of space for our caravan, awning and car and didn't feel like you were close to the next unit like we have at other sites. No hidden or extra charges were great too.

The warden we spoke to was very friendly and helpful showing us places to visit.

Would definitely like to return at some point next summer maybe!

Friendly and helpful owners, stunning location, great for exploring the Forest of Galloway. The Glentrool visitor centre is a short cycle ride away with miles and miles of cycle track for the more proficient rider. It is possible to drive a large motorhome up to Bruces Stone and explore from there. The local pub is an easy 5 minutes walk away giving a warm welcome. The site is immaculately kept, The toilet block is new and the showers are clean with ample hot water. The site is dog friendly with lots of nice walks. We spent 3 nights on the site and used it as a base to explore, would come again.

Having just returned from a 3 night stay here - and I don't usually leave reviews (even though I always rely on them before I book a site!) I felt I must give credit to the ladies who own and run this site. It's not only immaculate - the showers are very modern, clean with plenty of hooks, everything has been well thought out.

The site is very well laid out, lovely big pitches, plenty of signage so no wandering around looking for things! Dog wash, which is another bonus, and a nice little walk around the lovely pond. The shop is well stocked, and there's a good pub (dog friendly) just up the road, great food.

Fran and Jen couldn't be more helpful, and informative particularly of the many walks there are to do, and what we might see - we were extremely lucky to see a pine marten! They even lent me some of their animal antiseptic after my dog 'gained' a tick out walking.

Can't praise them enough, can't wait to go back and spend longer there next time.

Wow! All the other reviews are spot on. Absolutely lovely ladies clearly passionate about their campsite.

Great facilities for tents with a bothy hut and another being built as we left. New toilet block with perfectly hot showers.

Clearly the ladies are investing for the future with newly planted willow between pitches and nice flag iris and hoster plantings in the meadow marsh.

Perfectly situated for exploring the glen and the westerly forest and rather handy for the great pub down the road ( house o' hill ) which I am now rating on trip advisor. What a weekend!

Would we return? At a flash.

Wishing them all the success they deserve.
