Please note we have been advised that this site has closed, and no longer offers camping, motorhome or caravanning pitches. If you know that this situation has changed in the future, please could you let us know. Many thanks

Visited with 2 other families for August bank holiday. All of us in tents.

LOCATION

Just outside Portsmouth, nearest village is WIckham with a small selection of shops and a mid sized Co-Op. Nearest supermarket (Tesco) is at Cosham, approx 7 minutes drive away. Quiet location set back from the road. Unfortunately no local pubs in walking distance.

PITCH

The pitch was well maintained and pretty flat and it drained well in the torrential rain we experienced!

The site was mainly static vans, some tourers, and 3 small areas for tents, I would guess maybe 20 tents max?

Pitches were not marked out.

Very secluded. But as a former naturist place I guess it would be!

FACILITIES

Mixed bag here.

Good points. The site had 2 pools (one indoor, one outdoor); sauna, steam room and jacuzzi (additional charge for these 3 facilities); clubhouse with bar and bar snacks in the evening, plus entertainment (horse racing one night and live band another the weekend we were there); games room (but not many games, more of a chill out room for the kids); short tennis courts; table tennis; and an amazing kids play area. All of these amenities were very good and more than we were expecting. The kids were all kept very entertained.

On the other hand, the showers, and washing up facilities were sadly not up to standard.

Showers were 20p. In the pool changing room that lasted 3½ minutes, and for the first minute the shower was stone cold; in the toilet block it last probably 8 minutes and the shower was too hot! There was no temperature control in any of the ladies showers, but I am told the men could adjust the temperature in the pool changing room ones. And there was no private changing. In fact, the changing area in the toilet block was right by the toilet basins and right opposite the door. So you were pretty much 'on display' to everyone who entered! (Could be a throw back to the site's naturist days!)

Washing up - only one washing up place, so we did have to wait on occasions.

Bins. All rubbish was thrown on to an open skip, which didn't seem right or hygienic. And no recycling facilities at all.

Chemical waste / Kampa Khazi emptying point was way down the end of the field, nowhere near the loos/showers etc, so seemed a bit illogical!

SITE RULES

It allows you to pitch from 11am if pitch is clear, but you can stay until midday when packing up. So I guess if you turn up early you may find you have to wait a while if the previous occupants are still striking!

Quietening down time is midnight. Which we all thought was too late. Plus, they do not 'patrol' to check, and we did have some problems with noisy neighbours. Which was a shame.

WOULD WE COME AGAIN?

Probably, as it is so close to home. In fact, others in our party popped home to shower each day rather than brave the 'open plan' showering and changing arrangement!

Plus the kids loved the pool, games room, play area etc. And as I've said before, happy kids = happy parents!

We have stayed here in a tent, trailer tent and this time a caravan and found it to be as fab as every other time.

The staff, as usual, were excellent. Yes there is some work going on there but it will only make the place look better next year (it's called progress !)

There are workman living on the site but they certainly were no trouble and were not noisy early in the morning.

Another great stay for us. See you next year

We camped here with a group of friends for two nights. The pitch was nice and flat and well maintained. The facilities were very good - the kids really enjoyed the play area, tennis courts and the swimming pools. Even the outdoor pool was nice unheated! The staff were very friendly and helpful. We will be visiting again soon.

Just spent the bank holiday at this site and had a great time. Staff were very friendly and couldn't do enough to make sure we had a good time.

Yes there are a few bad points, the showers cost 20p and there was still some work going on around the park but on the whole a nice site. Kids loved the indoor and out door pools plus the play area.

We liked the bar which was cheap and very welcoming to the children which makes a change from other sites we have been to.

Its only a small site so I can see why there is no on site shop but everything we needed was only two miles away in the nice village of Wickham.

If your looking for a relaxed park and stuff for the kids to do this is a good place.

We stayed here for a short break during half-term, booked into a static caravan. The new play area is really good and there is a tennis court, although that seemed to be full of children with scooters.

The indoor pool is nice, although quite small (4 families filled it) and it seemed in need of a good clean. The outer areas of the pool are extremely narrow, so there isn't much chance of a non-swimming family member able to sit and watch. Staff also use the indoor pool as a cut-through from the bar to the office, which seemed a bit inappropriate when they're marching past in muddy outdoor shoes and we're all bobbing around in costumes! There was no private changing area in the pool changing rooms and 20p was needed for the showers, we didn't use them as we headed back to our own shower but another lady said they had been cold the day before.

We stayed at this site to visit Portsmouth's historic dockyards, sea-front & aquarium. It is literally about 15 mins from Portsmouth and (traffic allowing) it is very handy for those places. We would also really recommend the D-day museum (especially if your child is doing WW2 as their curriculum) and also Southsea Castle. We had lovely weather and the sea views were great.

We had a problem with our static; despite there being a policy of all non-smoking accommodation, there had evidently been smoking in the double bedroom which was uninhabitable. We were (begrudgingly) moved to a new lodge which is part of their new development - lodges to buy. The statics are also part-let to short-time workers in the area (a man came to claim his t-shirts he left behind!), so vans leave at very early hours.

We were given a security card to access the barrier but at the same time were told that they leave it open so that builders could get in!

There is no '11-acre landscaped grounds', there are new lodges and constant building work going on, which is for people who have bought lodges and they can do whatever hours suit them. The big skip is still the only place for any rubbish, there are no recycling facilities.

Have been to this site quite a few times as we like the location and the facilities are good, except the showers which are not very warm and have to pay 20 pence for not very long at all. There are no private changing areas either.

There is no shop on-site and garage across the road now closed down. Across the main road opposite is 5 mins away is off road cycling through woods and countryside, also ideal for dog walking.

Wickham is a nice village to shop and wander and only 5 mins in the car. Portsmouth and Southampton all nearby. New Forest only half hour away, lovely day out.

Spent 2 nights at this site. We found it muddy with soft verges and potholes making it very difficult to get around both driving and walking.

Most other reviewers make very valid comments regarding the communal showers and charges for every facility. The fees are higher than average, and not good value.

The rubbish disposal definitely needs looking at - one overfull and disgusting skip is not acceptable.

Wickham village is worth the 2 mile walk in and the ART room cafe on the first floor above Hemmings hardware is a lovely and welcoming place for coffee and crumpets.

The main attraction of this site to us was that it was a short drive to friends in Southsea. We found the area very pleasant and Wickham is a delightful town.

The facilities were adequate though as many other reviewers have remarked, it seems odd to charge 20p for a shower when this site is already dearer than average. This didn't bother us much though it was not clear which meter controlled which shower.

We had no problem finding the site, though we have no sat-nav.

A big plus for us was that dogs are not allowed. We use mostly Caravan Club sites, all of which allow dogs; quite understandably, since it's a way for dog-owners to vacation without problems. Generally dogs on CC sites are well controlled but it is nice to get a dog-free site from time to time.

This was our 3rd visit to this site and as usual it was great. Friendly staff, clean site, and 2 great pools. (and I won at bingo). We plan to visit this site loads more.

The only request I would make is that the coin slots and showers are marked to show which showers they control. A shop would also be helpful although there is quite a good garage opposite which sells lots of bits and wickham is quite close.

Another big 10/10 from us
