 The owners of this site are really lovely and its clear that the visitors are very important to them - child friendly.
However, pitches are jam packed together with little open space for children to play near the tent. We were lucky to be next to the play area so our children had space to run around there.
I might give this site a go again in a few years when this children are big enough to play on their own in areas out of site from the tent.
The site on the whole is well kept and looks pretty, but very near to the motorway, which you could hear day and night.
Would recommend this site for adults and families with children ages 10 +.

A lovely site tucked away, be warned last mile or so is down narrow lanes, be sure to follow directions on website.
Handily placed not too far off M50 with good access to Ross and Wye and Forest of Dean.
Lovely dog walks directly off site.
Facilities are dated but some upgrading is currently being carried out.
Small shop on site and wood fired pizza available some evenings.
We were sited close to the reed beds which did give off the occasional whiff.
Lovey play area for kids and an undercover area with table tennis table etc.

Lovely clean, tidy site. Fantastic hot showers and loo block very clean.
Great pool table etc for older kids.
Woodland walks nearby. Only downside was a whiff from the reed beds serving the septic tank when the wind was towards us.
We would camp there again

I visited this site in early August and, despite being relatively full (in the area I was in, at least), it was still pretty peaceful. I had concerns about the road noise being so close to the motorway, but it wasn't too bad.
I was met on arrival by one of the (new) owners who was very welcoming. He showed us to our pitch, which was in the bottom section of the site.
At check-in I also pre-ordered some of their homemade pizzas, which were delivered to our pitch at the requested time and were very tasty - a great idea, especially to have on arrival day when the last thing you want to do after setting up is to then have to cook!
However, I didn't see much more of the owners, which was especially disappointing when I wanted to buy the kids an ice cream.
The site itself is nice with lots of distinct areas so you don't necessarily feel like you're on a huge site. There was also lots of areas for the kids to play.
We mostly used the 'football pitch' area for playing frisbee or bat & ball, as it was closest to us. We did go up to the play area once, but it had been taken over somewhat by a large group of kids that were obviously camped very close to it.
The washing-up facilities were fine, but there were only 3 sinks, with one being outside with no shelter, so not very usable in bad weather. And the main toilet/shower block needs major renovation (I'm hopeful this is top of the list for the new owners to do in the off season).
There were only 2 toilets and 2 showers (in the ladies, at least), which really isn't much for a site of that size. The shower cubicles were quite small, so I used the separate family shower room as it was me plus 2 kids. However, the showers were a fixed temperature, which was scalding hot (even uncomfortable for me), so trying to get the kids washed was challenging.
Also, the water drained really badly & sprayed out like mad, so it was a struggle to find somewhere to keep things dry. Although I did see someone cleaning them most days, they didn't seem to keep that clean - perhaps a quick clean later in the day might be a good idea too.
My other main complaint was that I wasn't far from the chemical disposal point (which I didn't need to use) and, after the first couple of days, it really started to smell & this smell wafted over to our pitch, which was really unpleasant.
That said, the site has great potential and as it has only recently been taken over by new owners, I will give them the benefit of the doubt that major improvements will soon be made.
The location is convenient - not far off the M50, and there's lots to do nearby, although most things you need to drive to. We did go for a bike ride from the site, through the woods, and round the lake, which was nice.
We also visited the International Bird of Prey Centre and took a trip to the River Wye for a walk and spot of canoeing. Tip: if you want to go canoeing with younger children, not all places will let you go out with younger children, but Wyedean Canoe & Adventure Centre did.
Also, the food (& view) at Ye Olde Ferrie Inn is amazing but worth booking as it gets very busy.

Staff seemed to be very “absent” and we didn’t see anyone at all after the initial check-in - even this had to be prompted by calling a mobile number from the entrance driveway which was challenging due to poor mobile signal.
Pitches were small and it was tricky fitting the caravan, awning and car onto the area allocated. The pitch next to us was vacant so we used that to park on but I wouldn’t want to be there when it was full as space would be very tight.
Amenities were within a building a short walk from our pitch - showers were a bit “tired” and had a very annoying feature where lights were motion-activated - problem was that if you were in one of the toilet or shower cubicles it would not register your presence so I regularly finished an evening shower in darkness.
This could easily be resolved by extending the time that the lights remain on - when the lights switch off inside 10 mins it’s somewhat annoying to say the least! I’m pretty certain that the showers weren’t cleaned daily despite website stating that they were closed between 11 & 12 for daily cleaning.
The grey waste water disposal point required you to lift a heavy wastemaster up to a raised drain - this would present difficulties to anyone not able to do that and could easily be resolved by either lowering the drain or at least installing a ramp to help you overcome this. Again, a simple fix that would eliminate this seemingly obvious oversight.
Sadly, what had been a largely peaceful site was spoiled on our last day of when the quietness was shattered by an extended period of a concrete floor being cut and drilled in the main building using a disc-cutter - I appreciate that this may have been to make improvements but these should surely be done when there aren’t paying customers on site?
We requested a late check out on our final day as 11am seemed unusually early - so we called the site telephone number on our penultimate day to arrange this but only had this call returned when we were already in the car on our way home during the late afternoon on our final day!
The operation of the campsite did seem to be a bit of an afterthought for the managers /owners. We were originally attracted to the site online by the promise of home-cooked pizzas on-site. We enquired about these prior to arrival but got no promised call-back to say if these would be available or not during our stay. Didn’t see anyone in reception to ask again so we ate elsewhere.
The site has potential but I feel that improvements are needed for this to be fulfilled.

When you arrive you may need to call reception to check in. It’s worth taking a mobile phone with an O2 SIM card. We are with Virgin and had no phone signal, but we occasionally got a data signal. Luckily one of the children was with O2.
The new owners were very welcoming and showed us to a pitch in a pretty spot. It’s a nice small site and nicely spread out. We used the badminton net, the play area, the washing up sinks and the freezer. No complaints about any of them.
They sell ice creams at reception but unfortunately didn’t catch anyone there to buy one. We did pre order pizzas and they were delivered to the tent and were good and good value. There is motorway noise but it’s no big deal.
Definitely a site we will return to and explore the woods and the pub and the farm that sells goat’s ice cream!

Liked- clean toilets, woodland walks literally yards away, campfires encouraged.
Great play equipment for children.
Disliked- site doubles up as a base for a building contractor.
Didn't spoil our visit but some folk may be put off by the 'builders yard' look and feel, especially around the reception / toilet block.
At £25.50 per night, it is just about value for money.

Great little campsite,
Lovely park and football pitch for the kids to enjoy,
Lovely walks nearby,
Facilities excellent and the Pizzas are amazing :-)

The actual site COULD BE lovely. It's a nice enough location and there's a grass football pitch and a small play park area for the kids; indeed there were loads of kids there who all played well and had a brilliant time!
But the facilities are poor. They're inadequate, dirty and generally neglected, and the site is dotted with areas of building materials (half used pallets of bricks etc), broken down old storage buildings, and a huge barn full of timber, stone flags etc. It's like camping in a building yard!
If someone were to buy it, spend some money on it, and take a bit of pride in it I'd consider visiting again, but as it is there no chance!

Stayed 2 nights here with another family. We had a pleasant stay and everyone was quiet in the campsite after 10pmish. The site itself was comfortably spacious and not overly busy - mainly families and caravanners (who have their own area).
It's also very reasonably priced at £17 per night for non electric which I think good value. And you can have a campfire which is wonderful and which doesn't show up when you search UK Campsite for that!
Although you are on the fringes of woodland, the site itself has small open meadow areas divided by hedges and some trees. The main downside is the noise of the M50 motorway which is quite close. You do get used to it a bit. Its not the busiest of motorways but something to bear in mind if you want a complete getaway from traffic.
We were directed immediately to a suitable area where by the owner who was very helpful and friendly. He also helped us locate some fire pits to use and location of bricks to put under. They supply bags of wood for a fiver. The pitches were flat and the grass mown. In fact there was cut grass lying about on the banks which the kids had a wonderful time playing with!
As we had young children we were in the field with the play area at the end which was perfect as w could sit in our camp and keep an eye on them. The play area entertained them for hours with the all the other children. Behind was a small wood which leads to the 'Greenway' (Forest of Dean) link path. We went for a beautiful walk into Queen's wood and collected some kindling. Next time we would take bikes as it would be a good place to cycle.
The loo blocks are minimal but clean. There are 2 loos and 2 showers in each of the ladies and gents and also a disabled loo - this it seems is for the whole campsite. Sometime the loo paper ran out by the end of the day so we just took our own in case. They could've done with a few hooks to hang your wash bag and also in the loos to hang bags/coats up etc.
The showers were hot. The dishwashing area is inside and there are 3 sinks which were all clean and the water hot. Because the site site didn't feel very busy we didn't have to queue for anything. I imagine if it was fuller it might become a problem. It's pretty countryside and Newent is 10 mins away if you want groceries. Definitely a site to come to with children.
