Nice location, could have had more toilets for the amount of people on the site or getting them cleaned more often.

Really handy for stanage edge and not too bad of a walk to the pub

This is a really tidy campsite. The facilities (toilets, showers, wash up area) are spotless.

There are recycling bins. The grass of the fields is cropped fairly short.

It’s an ideal place for a few nights to use as a base. The only downside on the night I stayed was that there was no breeze so it was a bit “midgy”. If I’d have had insect repellent /midge hood, it would have been fine.

Hathersage is about a mile or so away with shops, pubs, restaurants etc.

A great, clean, and well looked after campsite.

North Lees is a beautiful remote campsite.

The facilities are basic but good. Good showers.

The location is perfect for hiking and climbing.

It is easy to walk from the campsite down to the village for a meal or drink at the pub.

I enquired using the booking form here and received a quick reply advising they had a pitch for me. I booked and paid online, so I could just turn up.

I arrived on site and was met by the very friendly warden who was walking the site ensuring it was all clean and tidy.

The facilities block was being renovated, so cannot comment on them, but they were fab last year, so presume will continue to be so.

There were portacabins provided with showers and toilets and these were clean and tidy and well maintained

There is a washing up area, plenty of bins including recycling, a washer and dryer, and a drying room for your clothes, boots, etc, of course all at your own risk.

The site is just outside Hathersage, about 5 minutes drive and there are a few pubs, a Nisa Local, butchers a few outdoor shops, cafe and more.

This time I walked down up to Stanage Edge and then down to Ladybower and back to the site, a great walk and very relaxing, bang on 10 miles.

I will be back again.

Great site close to lots of walks in the area

Most fields are slightly sloping, make sure you work it out before pitching, the area had seen a lot of rain recently so the ground was a bit boggy.

For the size of the site the drawback was only having 1 male shower and 1 female, so involved a bit of queuing

I enquired using the booking form here and received a quick reply advising they had a pitch for me. I arrived on site and was met by the very friendly warden who took my payment of just £12. 50 for me and the dog on a hardstanding pitch.

He showed me where the facilities were and explained all I need to know about the site, bins, waste, etc. The toilet block for men consisted of 2 cubicles, 3 urinals, 3 sinks, hand drier an a push button shower. The water was hot and everything was pleasant and clean. No heating on in the blocks when I was there, but not an issue. The ladies was the same, but three cubicles.

There is a washing up area, plenty of bins including recycling, a washer and dryer, and a drying room for your clothes, boots, etc, of course all at your own risk.

The site has a few pods on which looked nice, and the camping fields were large, fairly flat and they provided plenty of wheel barrows to move your stuff from the car park to your pitch.

The site is just outside Hathersage, about 5 minutes drive and there are a few pubs, a Nisa Local, butchers a few outdoor shops, cafe and more.

Location wise, if you like walking, this site is awesome, there is a footpath straight from the site that leads up to Stanage Edge and you can then walk for miles. You can also walk in Hathersage and this took around 30 mins.

Site is dog friendly, but they must be on a lead and cleaned up after.

No fire are allowed.

No play ground for the little ones, however there is plenty of space to play, loads of walking, stars to see at night and for me is a perfect location and site and I will be back when next walking Stanage Edge and visiting the area.

Beautiful location, clean and very tidy site staffed by a helpful team.

A couple of things to note if you've not been before - much of the site is sloping so choose your pitch with care - and the midges really were out in strength the evening we chose to eat at the site - so bring headnets and repellents!

 Amazing place

Beautiful scenery

Good facilities

Big space plenty of room for tents and to play rounders in the middle.

Pubs near but didn’t actually leave the site as having too much fun.

Will definitely come back again.

Lovely location for visiting Stanage Edge. There is a path up through the woods at the top of the site which leads up there. Plenty of other pleasant walks nearby.

Although uneven, there are flat spots for small tents and it is well sheltered. The first field looked flattest but was occupied by groups while we were there, we were in the second field further up.

A VERY QUIET site. On our first evening, even though there were several other small groups in the second field with us, it was absolutely silent as soon as it got dark. We even felt we had to whisper to each other as though we were in a library!

A large group of teenaged adventurers and their supervisors arrived while we were there. The two-field system meant they were no disturbance to us, but we no longer felt the need to whisper at night!

The road by the site is pretty quiet but there is a loose rod on the cattle grid at the top of the hill which goes 'bonk' every time a car drives over it.

Facilities were well kept while I was there, can't comment on the showers as I didn't use one myself.

Overall, a decent spot for overnight stops or weekend breaks for climbers, cyclists, walkers etc. Probably not so suitable for noisy families with big tents on long holidays.

I would return.

We nearly chose not to go to this campsite becase some of the reviews were rather negative. Lots of 'midges', no soap (!), someone drove in late one night and made noise putting up their tent, etc. We decided that there was a whiny, silly quality to some of those reviews and decided to risk a two night visit. I'm glad we did: North Lees is a very good, more than basic campsite. We had no unusual problems with mosquitoes. There is water nearby, so perhaps other reviewers were just unlucky. Not much really flat land for tents, but this is Derbyshire. And most campers are used to choosing which end of the tent will be slightly higher than the other. The ground was well drained, without poo and was well manicured. The shower and toilet blocks were clean, well-appointed and, weirdly, actually DO have toilet paper and liquid soap. Which was nice, but unusual for the campsites I generally stay at. A VERY quiet campsite, by the way. The only rule I saw posted was: 'This is a quiet site'. The staff were helpful. I liked this site and would certainly use it to pitch a tent again. I would say that you will find this site lacking if you are a camper who prefers Caravan Club style sites, with pristine showers, totally flat, rock-hard grass, lots of power outlets, etc. This is a campsite for outdoors familes, for climbers, for walkers, for cyclists. For people who love the outdoors but want a comfortable place to pitch their tents.
