First visit but won’t be our last, a lovely small and friendly campsite with a mix of all ages and nationalities when we arrived. We had pitch 4 which was lovely and shaded opposite the wash facilities and our friends had pitch 3 and sunny all day so had the best of both worlds regarding the sun.
The pool was lovely, clean and warm and I had a lovely swim early evening all to myself even though site was pretty busy. We ventured to the village of Combourg which was pretty had a leisurely walk round had lunch and watched the world go by for an hour or so.
Claire the owner is lovely and you can order the night before fresh bread and croissants etc and they also have a book swop and kids book/games in the cafe area.
This site is my dream site and will give 10/10

This is the third time that we have visited Le Bois Coudrais.
Being close to St Malo we usually use this site as a stopover on our return to the UK after a month in the Vendee. This year we opted to spend 6 nights and explore the local area before returning home.
I am so glad we did. Claire and Philippe Ybert, the owners, are warm, friendly and very welcoming. Both work extremely hard in maintaining the high standards of the site. It is not common to see them cleaning and tidying the site in the early hours of the morning before most people are up and about. Their efforts are clearly demonstrated by the cleanliness of the Toilet/Shower Area and Washing Up areas on the site. Both areas can be very busy at peak times and occasionally a queue forms to use these facilities. This can be expected at peak times but generally speaking it does not cause a problem to the user. One minor point is the temperature of the water in the showers. When busy there is a tendency for the hot water to be luke warm. Moral of the story is to get in early to avoid the cooler shower. Personally I wasn’t too bothered about it as we tend to use the shower in our van at peak times or wait until things quieten down.
Pitches are adequate and will easily accommodate a caravan, awning and car. Pitch boundaries are separated by hedges and trees. There are no fully serviced pitches at this site but EHU’s are easily reached with the standard 25m power cable. Grey waste can be discharged into the hedges and there is a CDP located at the Toilet/Shower facilities. Clean water is not piped to individual pitches but is available at points around the site. Aqua Roll is essential.
There is a licensed bar in Reception and a small seating area outside. Meals can be ordered at reception and delivered to your pitch. Fresh bread can be ordered and collected from reception. Place your order the night before and it’s waiting for you the following morning. Got to say the Boulanger they use is fantastic. It’s the nicest bread we have eaten anywhere in France.
There is a swimming pool on-site, which is popular with adults and children alike. There are sun loungers and umbrellas around the pool so if you fancy a leisurely relax on site as opposed to a run out to the local beach you’ve got it.
The kids seem to enjoy collecting windfall apples from the tree outside reception and feeding them to the resident goats in their enclosure adjacent to the wooded camping area. Another source of amusement for the kids is the free range chickens that give you the occasional visit on your pitch.
I fail to find anything prejudicial to say about Le Bois Coudrais. It is a well-run child friendly site with a great customer focus. Ideally locate to explore the north east of Brittany and lower Normandy areas. “Would I return again? - Most certainly. In fact, subject to health and wealth, we’ve already booked for a longer stay next year.
A big thank you to Claire and Philippe. We really enjoyed our stay with you.
Regards
Chris

We liked this site so much after camping here in 2015 that we came back in 2016, and again this summer, this time bringing the extended family (who think every campsite should have chickens and goats!) Claire and Philippe are really friendly and helpful, always happy to answer your questions, and give advice on things to do in the area. The site is ideal for kids, it feels really safe and is small enough to let them run free, but big enough for them to feel it's an adventure.
The facilities are great, showers and toilets are clean, there's a lovely little café' and a small pool that's big enough for the site.
The location of the site is really good, it's only about 40 minutes from lots of lovely beaches, St Malo and Mont St Michel, there are Châteaux nearby and a great forest with loads of activities only about 10 minutes away. If you're looking for a small friendly site that's ideal for kids - we'd thoroughly recommend Le Bois Coudrais.

Had a short stay here at the end of August - we booked a couple of weeks in advance for our short stay and it was just as well we did as they were down to their final 2 pitches available for that time - so booking in advance a good idea in the summer.
This is a beautifully maintained site which has a lovely peaceful feel about it and very friendly and welcoming owners. Our first impression was so good when we arrived that we immediately extended our short stay by a night and would have spent longer there if time had permitted. The tent pitches are in attractive surroundings, some shaded by trees - we were in a non electric pitch in the middle field and most of those pitches in that area appear to have shade at some point in the day. The bottom camping field had tents around the outside with play space in the middle. The top field was closest for the Pool and loos/wash up area. All the areas are lovely and since the site is small you're not too far from the facilities or pool wherever you pitch. The outdoor heated pool was wonderful in the heatwave we were experiencing that week, and although the pool was small it was never overcrowded. Also welcome was the lovely on site café (it's best to book a table in advance to ensure a place) We enjoyed a meal of top quality burgers with frites and salad, with a carafe of wine one evening and it was very tasty.
The showers, toilets, and washing facilities were modern and always clean - I saw them being cleaned regularly by the owner. Note that the site doesn't currently have an shop (although I notice it sold long life milk) so remember to stock up at local supermarket if needed.
This was a most relaxing and friendly campsite to stay at and one we definitely plan to stay at again, next time for a bit longer - its great for both unwinding or as a base for site seeing. The local towns and villages are really picturesque and there are so many places of interest to visit within a short radius - lots of ideas are given in the information area at the café.
Such a lovely site and we very much look forward to visiting again.

Le Bois Coudrais is a lovely family friendly site. We choose it due to it being small but also having a pool and play area. It was our first experience of camping in France and we were not disappointed. The owners are constantly maintaining and cleaning throughout the day and are very friendly and helpful.
Our pitch was close to the toilets and pool but it was not noisy and because our child had limited mobility at night it was perfect for us. Our pitch was a fab size, as soon as someone moved on Philippe was mowing, cleaning and checking the pitch.
The toilet and showers were all newly refitted and there were more than enough for the size of the site. Our children are 3 and 6 years of age and this site was perfect. When we camped it was mainly Dutch and British campers and all the children played beautifully together. The play area was in a safe and secure wooded area, all the children loved to feed the goats. We did not venture far but there was a great supermarket in Comburg. All sites have to measure up to this one and I think that may prove difficult. If you want a peaceful, relaxed, friendly and happy place to camp then I would highly recommend.

My wife and I spent three nights here on our way back from visiting the Loire Valley and the Dordogne.
It is a very pleasant and well kept site, with spacious pitches, which we found to be quite unusual in that many French sites have very small pitches, quite difficult with a large caravan.
The facilities were very good, with plenty of washing up sinks, toilets and showers, along with a well equipped disabled facility with shower and toilet with easy access and plenty of handrails.
There is a nice swimming pool, a small snack bar and a 'collect your fresh bread in the morning' service, provided by the very friendly and helpful owners.
Access to the site is easy, and very conveniently situated for the pretty town of Combourg, Dinan etc, and around a 45 minutes drive to the ferry port at St Malo.
All in all, a nice quiet, well organised, clean and well organised and worth a visit again site, which we hope to do again next year!

We just got back from this delightful site. We stayed for 10 nights and although the weather wasn't as warm as we hoped it would be (coldest summer for 12 years or something), we had a lovely time with our 11 and 14 year olds.
Good things.
Claire and Phillipe are definitely the best thing about this site. They are always available and full of advice and helpful tips about places to go and things to do. They work hard to keep the site in tiptop condition.
The pool is small but warm and clean.
The pitches are spacious and most are neatly divided by hedges.
The toilets seemed to be cleaned twice a day.
There is plenty to do on site, with a small play area, a table tennis table and a cafe with games and books to borrow and free wifi.
Bread and croissants available at a reasonable price every morning (except Monday and need to be ordered the night before).
Our 11 year old especially liked the small farm (goats, rabbits, chickens and ducks) and the tree that she found to climb and hang out in.
In terms of the area, we found plenty to do without spending lots of money, although nothing was accessible from the site without driving. The large wall map and guidance from Claire and Phillipe was really helpful.
We loved the Hyper you supermarket in Combourg!
The cider!
The not so goods.
With only 4 toilets and 4 showers (one of which is in a shared room with one of the toilets) there is a fair amount of waiting around to use those facilities when you need them. The site has 30 pitches so that meant about 100 people, including children, trying to have a shower in the morning. I think they could do with a couple more of each.
Our pitch was near the toilets, cafe and swimming pool, which was convenient, but made it a little noisy sometimes with kids playing various run-out type games or being boisterous in the pool. This wasn't over the top and if you were in pitches a little further away it would be fine.
This last one is more of an observation than a criticism - the site seemed to be full mostly of families with children under 10. We couldn't quite work out why this was the case, but if you are without kids you may struggle or if you have teens who like to make friends they might not find others there. Or maybe it was just the week we were there.
Overall we were very happy with the site. It was a lovely stay. While we tend not to go back to the same area twice, we would certainly recommend this site to others and visit again should we want to go to Brittany again.

Myself my wife and four kids stayed here for 10 nights in july.
This is a lovely campsite, the owners are very friendly and very helpful.
Facilities are kept clean and always toilet paper!
The small pool also is an added bonus especially on a hot day.
Price wise very good value.
Would recommend this site very highly, and will certainly be back again.
If you are after a small, quiet and family friendly site, then this is certainly one to consider.

Fantastic little site on the outskirts of Cugeon nr Combourg in Brittany. We only planned to stay at the site for 4 nights but after having to change our plans at the last minute we extended our booking to 8 nights. We are so glad we did. The site is clean, tidy and well laid out. The pitches are large and if not separated by hedges are really well spaced apart.
The toilet, shower and pot washing facilities are spotless and more than adequate for the 25 pitches, we know this because we visited during the Tour de France and the site was full.
Claire and Philippe offer a great range of breakfast croissants and bread and even prepare simple food for your evening meal if you don't feel like cooking.
The pool and children's facilities are first class and kept the many kids on the site entertained for hours.
This is one of our favourite parts of France and we will certainly back in the area soon and without doubt we would definitely return to Le Bois Coudrais

I would describe the site as a super CL+. The pitches were generous in size as was the hospitality of the English speaking hosts. We were two caravans trying out Northern Brittany. The location grows on you once you take note of the surrounding area information that has been posted on the picture board in the reception/ café. Visits to wonderful castles and towns that were in easy reach. There is a large forest about ten minutes away to let the dogs have a roam. The site facilities are neat and clean and there is the added bonus of the heated outdoor pool if you want it. All in all a great experience and I can understand why people wish to return there.
