Another great weekend at the Croft. Again received a warm welcome from the owners, Guy and Maria.
A BBQ is offered on Friday evenings with a choice of meat and salads. Ideal after a long drive and erecting the tent on the generous sized pitches.
The showers/toilets were continuously cleaned throughout our stay and I appreciate the socket for my hairdryer. The washing up facilities were also very clean.
Although there are no pitches with electricity at the moment we had the use of fridge and freezer in the cartlodge. This lodge also has picnic tables and could be used if raining. For the children there are table tennis tables and plenty of space away from the tents to play.
The site is ideally located for both the countryside and the coast.
We will definitely return.

We've just returned from a fabulous camping holiday spent at The Croft which is a brand new site opened Summer 2016 and as a result has lovely modern facilities which enhanced our experience. Nothing is too much trouble for the owners Guy and Maria, who welcomed us to their site with open hours and a big smile!
The pitches are larger than many sites we've stayed at which is great - particularly if you have children and pup tents etc. The toilet block and showers are brand new and were cleaned to an immaculately high standard by Maria.
The showers are lovely and powerful and are free so no panicking to try and find 20pences etc. My only tip here would be for the ladies - to avoid wet hair, take a shower cap as the shower head angle isn't adjustable.
The pot washing facilities are also kept spotlessly clean with large sinks and plenty of hot water.
The barn is set up with table tennis tables which is great for those rainy days although we were really lucky and only had one wet day during our stay - the advantage of the South East. Then the HIGHLIGHT of our stay were the two fabulous evening spent with Maria and Guy and their lovely family in the open barn.
The first night was a trial run of making homemade pizzas cooked on the fabulous clay cob oven - this was a night of delicious food with my husband deciding it is THE BEST pizza he has ever tasted. And he's fussy! Downed with a few glasses of wine (bring your own. ) and then be prepared to laugh the night away - particularly if you are fortunate to be joined by Maria's mum and dad who are great characters! My husband literally had tears streaming down his face with laughter.
On Friday evening, we joined the Croft Barbecue night - fabulous burgers, chicken, sausages and salad cooked beautifully by Guy on their great barbecue and another great night of fun and laughter and tasty food! The chicken was cooked to perfection as Guy has clearly being practicing hard throughout the summer months!
On our remaining evenings, we were able to enjoy the clear starlit sky whilst keeping cosy around the fire pits which you can hire for the week - fabulous for those toasted marshmallows (which are available to purchase low cost at the Reception along with a few other 'essentials' - just in case)
The reception area is really welcoming with tea coffee and juice available which I have to say was very welcome after our 5 hour journey from Manchester prior to pitching our tent. There are lots of leaflets providing information about what to do in the area and Maria and Guy are also a great source of information about some great places to visit locally.
Maria and Guy have clearly worked really hard to establish a great new campsite and I'm really looking forward to returning and will definitely be encouraging the rest of our family to join us as it is a brilliant family site. As the trees/bushes that they have planted between pitches become established over the next couple of years, this will be another great feature of the site providing that extra bit of privacy between the pitches.
We were sorry to leave and will definitely be returning. Maria hinted that she may be arranging a 'slow gin' making weekend which definitely sounds like fun and I'll be keeping an eye out for!

We stayed at the Croft Campsite for two nights, Friday and Saturday. We loved every minute of our stay. The owners Guy and Maria were so kind and helpful and made us feel very welcome. They do a BBQ on Friday nights which was absolutely delicious, and we really appreciated it as it meant we could pitch up and get sorted out without having to worry about cooking that evening! It also gave us a chance to meet some of the other campers, which made for a really nice atmosphere. The fire pits which you can hire at the site are great, important for us as we always look for a campsite where you are allowed to have a fire.
One thing we were really struck by was the generous size of the pitches and the little line of trees to separate each pitch from the next. We felt like we had loads of room, unlike some other campsites we've stayed at where we've felt like everyone is on top of each other. In the middle of each of the camping fields there was a big open space, and there is also a games field where there are no pitches at all - so loads of room for kids to play. We don't have kids ourselves but the campsite is very child friendly, with an undercover area with ping pong tables in case of rain.
The facilities are all newly installed, very modern and clean. The washing up room is definitely the best one I've seen on a campsite. Toilets and showers are also excellent and there is enough for the number of pitches on the site so that you don't end up queueing.
The surrounding area is gorgeous and we found an absolutely beautiful beach nearby that wasn't overcrowded at all.
We highly recommend this campsite and we will definitely be returning as soon as we can! Thank you for a lovely stay.

With so many impersonal and disappointing campsites around, the Croft was a breath of fresh air. The owners, Guy and Maria, have pitched (excuse the pun) their customer service perfectly, achieving the fine balance of being at hand and available but not overbearing. They certainly know what campers need, offering a friday night BBQ to relieve the pressure of arriving late, setting up, cooking, managing kids etc. The BBQ was delicious and very reasonably priced, served in a lovely old coach house giving a chance to chat to other campers.
The site is extremely child friendly and safe - minimal traffic, a lovely big field for games of footie or frisbee and table tennis and table football in a large barn. There are also two fridges, a great luxury for people such like us who stay in tents! Another lovely touch is the fire pit service - a pit, lighters, wood for two nights and even marshmallows all delivered in a wheelbarrow for a great price! The fires adds loads of atmosphere in the evening, gently glowing around the site under the suffolk stars.
The pitches are beautifully manicured, generously sized and the fact there are only 30 pitches adds to the feeling of space and privacy if you want it. The shower block is great - clean and not over busy. Lovely to have an indoor washing up room too as I hate washing up at 8pm under a lean-to in my coat if it is cold as seems to be the norm at most sites.
Nearby are loads of beautiful and interesting places - Framlingham castle, Southwold, Dunwich (the free museum is great fun), Walberswick, Orford and so on. Very local is Laxfield with great pubs, shops etc. The reception area has a lot of info on things to do if you need guidance. Guy and maria themselves will always take the time to point you in the right direction also.
The Croft is new this season but already feels established. With another year or two of growth, the planting around pitches will add even more character. A chat with the owners revealed some plans for investing in more amenities and I can only see it improving further.
A really lovely stay and we'll be returning regularly.

Just returned from a long weekend. The site is really well positioned for all the local attractions. The owners are lovely and really helpful. We didn't participate but they do BBQ on a Friday and breakfasts on Sunday! New showers and toilets lovely flat pitches.
Pitches are roomy and it doesn't feel crammed even though it was full. Nice respectful campers meant no noise at night apart from chatter. Bliss
They even have a WHOLE field for the kids to play in.
We will be going back.

The croft is one of those little gems that you feel you want to keep to yourself, but that wouldn't be fair on the friendly and welcoming owners, would it?
The site has good sized pitches on nice level ground, excellent toilet and shower facilities, and the rural location ensures a nice dark sky, but is only a short drive to the coast and local towns. Use as a base from which to explore Suffolk's beautiful coast and country, or just pitch up, relax and toast a marshmallow or six on your campfire. There's not many sites that I rate as worth a return visit, but the croft definitely is.

We're just back from 4 nights at the croft campsite, we don't want to be home! Put simply we adore everything about this site, it ticked all our boxes, generous pitches, immaculate showers and toilets, plenty of space for the kids to play and lovely friendly owners. There is a barn with picnic tables for if the weather isn't brilliant and also fridges, freezers and powerpoints to charge phones etc. There is another barn with table tennis and table football for The kids (and adults!) The indoor washing up area was clean and spacious with plenty of hot water.
The surrounding area is beautiful, you are surrounded by fields but there are a variety of shops not too far away. Southwold and Lowerstoft are an easy distance also.
The owners really make this campsite, so friendly and welcoming, nothing is too much trouble, We cannot wait to return.

Our second stay at The Croft gave us far better weather and really showed the qualities of the site.
Large flat pitches, good grass, great amenities block, large playing field, large covered cartshed with picnic tables, fridge freezers and fantastic firepits to hire!
A part road/part path walk to the pub/shop in Laxfield provided all the off-site activity we needed for the weekend.
This is a new quiet family site, dog friendly with features that make for a great stay, yes there are a few things to completely finish off but its great already. Guy & Maria are doing a great job with their brand new site, keep it up as we will be back!

Just got back from 4 nights camping at The Croft with my Wife and 13 year old son. What a Brilliant campsite, situated in the quite Suffolk countryside. The showers are temperature controlled and always had plenty of hot water. The washing up area has 3 very large sinks again never short of hot water. All the amenities were very clean and kept clean throughout the day.
A large field for kids (and adults)to play games on without annoying other campers, free table tennis and table top football under cover.
Maria & Guy(the owners) what a lovely couple they are, so friendly so helpful nothing seems to be too much trouble. Well worth a vist to this campsite, if this was more local to us we would vist it on a regular basis.

The perfect campsite for a relaxing holiday. We arrived on Friday evening, in time for the barbecue, which was a fantastic start to our weekend - it was great not having to worry about cooking after setting up. On Saturday morning, we also opted for croissants and pains au chocolat, so, all in all, great for us lazy campers!
The site is very new, so the hedging and trees need time to grow, but it is very well laid out, with good sized pitches. The shower block is not quite finished, but is fully functional, with good temperature regulation. An beautiful old barn provides a large covered area, with picnic benches, and also has fridge/freezers, so this really is stress-free camping! A marquee housed table tennis and table football, which kept the kids entertained when they weren't running around outside. We also particularly liked being able to borrow a fire pit, for the kids to toast marshmallows and the adults to sit around once we'd packed them off to bed.
The location is very rural (very quiet), about 15-20 minutes drive from the coast, and also a very easy drive from the A14, so from Cambridge it was a perfect base for a weekend. We will be back!
