We picked the bank holiday weekend with the strong winds - oops! There was carnage all around us and bins full of twisted gazebos, torn flysheets and broken fibreglass tent poles. That said, we saw some very badly pitched tents (guys flapping loosely in the wind etc) and the part of the site we were in was very open.
There are two large sites and a smaller one that does not allow tents owing to wild boar. There are plenty of facilities and they are maintained to a good standard.
The check-in process could be a bit more slick (more down to the computer system I think), but the on-site staff were excellent. We even got offered help in pitching out tent as it was windy on arrival.
I won't repeat what other reviewers have already said, but picking up on the expensive on-site shop if you drive out from reception and straight over the crossroads there is a better, cheaper shop called The Dairy a little way down on the right hand side that is open from about 6.30 in the morning until about 9.30 at night.
Not our ideal site as it feels too big and 'unwieldy' and folk can pitch where they like which is ok if they're sensible. We ended up with noisy, snoring neighbours who were a little close for comfort :-)
Probably won't go back there, but that's only our personal choice.

Excellent site for what we wanted.
Peace and quiet with plenty of walks, no rowdy groups or camp site bars, lots of good toilet / shower facilities. Good attractions nearby, puzzlewood, miniature railway, symonds yat etc. Plenty of space.
You book in at Christchuch site and pay £10 deposit for a barrier key. Pitches are not marked you take your pick, we went on bank holiday and although we were told they were full it did not seem crowded. Pitches for tents are sloping but we found an area not too bad. Limited for electric hook up with tents. Loads of showers and toilets which are kept clean. This is a good site for people who want something to do but also a quiet site. Good value.

Excellent facilities; showers and toilets are immaculate .This was our second visit to this site. It is a good walk into the village with a couple of decent pubs, all seem dog friendly.H aven't eaten in them but seem busy with diners.
Symmonds yat close by and lots of walks etc.

I'll start by saying, I love this camp site. Upon entry, there is a large pull off to park to get your reservation complete, great if you have a trailer. I felt the staff were very informative and pretty much gave us a quick run down of the pitch and campsite rules along with the brochure of the camp and rules as well. It was a slow time and we had our choice of pitch. The store is a good hike away but we can all use the exercise anyway, plus the walk is very nice. One field was closed off so we had a great veiw of the forest. The site is relatively quiet with no problems. The toilet and shower blocks were immaculate. There is so much to do onsite with walking and nature, lots of trails and such and we did take advantage of this, the area is absolutely fabulous. You can easily get to Symonds Yat or Biblins Bridge. There is also lots to do around the area such as shopping, caves, and my favorite was Puzzlewood, talk about a step back in time and cheap to visit as well. I definitely plan on returning to Bracelands soon and enjoy more of the Forest.

As new to the camping scene Bracelands was a pleasant surprise - Shower/toilet blocks clean and plentiful with loo roll but no hairdryer or plugs. Peaceful and Idyllic location, an uphill trek to the site shop and park but just timed those visits with in or out of the site - Surrounding Forest proved great entertainment for the kids building tree houses and the like, Ice pack exchange ( so you will not get your own back) well stocked if expensive shop - local Chinese takeaway will deliver.

Our 2nd visit to this site, weather was appalling but the site staff were great and offered to swap our booking for any other week if we wanted. Really love the location of this site, it is big and can get really busy at weekends but the views are fantastic, kids love the freedom and you are right in the middle of some lovely woods for walking/cycling etc. The facilities are simple but adequate and clean. Very relaxing and the lack of play area etc.is a plus as all the kids seem to make more of an effort to make up games and play. Site shop is a bit a a trek uphill to the other site (Christchurch-which is also a lovely site near to shop/reception, has a play area) but we prefer the relaxed atmosphere at Bracelands. Nearest town is Coleford which has a large Co-op plus a smaller Tesco and Summerfield as well as a range or small local shops and a Cinema. Monmouth is a short drive away and has more facilities. Plenty to do in the area, Symonds Yat is lovely although this time the weather stopped us from doing some stuff, last visit we hired canoes for 1/2 day and swam in the river etc. Loads of woodland cycle routes, the "family cycle route" at the Pedalbikeaway place is great but probably not suitable for small children on their own bikes as has a long but gentle uphill part followed by a fantastic fast downhill finish. Older kids 10+ and adults Go Ape at Mallards Pike is a must, our kids weren't tall enough but they got to go Canoeing there instead. We found a great in-door play area if you get awful weather just outside Coleford, served good food as well. Downsides to the site: no soap and broken hand drier in one of the toilet blocks but as one other reviewer suggested the toilet block at the top of the near field by the Caravans is much nicer and has washing machines and driers and payphone.

Our first family camping trip to this area and had an excellent stay. The site was busy as it was a Bank Holiday, but we had a lovely pitch looking over the forest valley. Plenty of space between units. There were 7 tents in our group with 4 dogs and several children. All the children aged between 6 & 15 loved the position. They found loads to do in the forest, building dens etc. Walked to Symonds Yat, visited the pub & crossed the river on the small ferry. Always managed to have a shower and wash up without much waiting. However it did rain for around 30 hours none stop, which was made worse by power failures for several hours two of the nights and one morning. Also the site shop was too far to walk to for the children. However, we would definitely return as it was a great location with fantastic walks.

Since the amalgamation with the Camping and Caravan Club, the prices have rocketed and the whole pricing policy is confusing to say the least. It is a lovely site but still a basic site (showers and toilets only) and not worth the 2007 charges. We have visited this site on many occasions over the past 15 years but with the changes don't feel it is worth it any more.

We visited this forestry commission site on the bank holiday and it was our first visit to a big site with undefined pitches - however we need not have worried It is busy with over 270 pitches but everyone is told to pitch 20 feet apart (though some people clearly have no idea of 20 feet and squeeze into spaces that should have been left empty). My advice is get there early and get the spot you want and then you will be fine. Toilet blocks/showers/washing up sinks etc are basic and clean - and are positioned so as to be not so far away for anyone. There is a site shop about 500yds away as well as 2 other forestry commission sites, one of which has a playground. An onsite warden is there to resolve any problems and this, I suspect, ensured that any inconsiderate behaviour was controlled. You can walk straight into the Forest and there is a lovely 1.5m walk down to the river (it is steep but my 3 and 5 year olds did the 3 mile round trip no problem) Locally there is lots to do including a railway and local caves only 10 minutes away, Coleford has a music festival on this particular May bank holiday which was great. Good hotel in Clearwell (10 minutes away) that serves a delicious sunday lunch. Symonds Yat has the peregrine falcons and the RSPB have telescopes for you to view the birds.

Well what can I say? We decided to go to Bracelands on the back of the reviews on this website. This was our first time camping and it will NOT be our last. We are already looking for a tent of our own and will be going back to Bracelands. We, my partner 2 kids and 2 dogs had a great time here. The toilet blocks always had hot water and were kept clean. Even catching the warden cleaning in there at 11p.m one night. the wardens were helpful and friendly, if you like the outdoors you have to go here. My/our only complaint was at 5a.m the local CUCKOO started and if I had a gun.only joking. Made a change from the traffic. THIS PLACE WAS GREAT.
