I am rather sad to read some of these reviews as this was my childhood regular visit in a tourer. The site is 'retro' and those seeking luxury or haven type hols not for you. My brother went recently with two kids and they had a fab time who needs a playpark with those sand dunes to sledge down and woods to explore beware of the green dog and matildas witch though! childhood legends
We are going for the first time in 30 years as guests this weekend and I hope to have rave reviews it will be a nostalgic visit for me. Thanks for shower tip though I'll get 20ps saved.

We stayed here for our very first trip in our new motorhome. We chose it because of the great location right on the dunes. The site feels a bit worn out but the facilities were spotless and spacious. It was a very reasonable price, and the wardens were very helpful. The only drawback for us was nowhere to drop our waste water - the site is mainly set up for caravans. We parked on a hardstanding area, although the 4 pitches in the trees were nicer, we were worried about sinking onto the sand ! However other motorhomes parked there and were okay so we were probably over cautious. I'd stay here again.

We wanted somewhere within an hour for a quick weekend. This site seemed 'ideal'. When we rang up the first question was 'how old are your kids?' (they are both between 5-10) 'There are STRICTLY no ball games and children must be indoors by 9pm'. I though this a little unwelcoming and odd, but went with our friends anyway.
If you want a gate pass have a spare £20 deposit.
Lots of rules and regs thrown at me as we pulled up at reception.
TOILET/SHOWERS:
1 key per unit. Needed this key to enter the toilets and again for each individual cubicle and shower. This was a little excessive seeing as the site is mostly statics and touring adults. There is no soap to hygienically wash hands and no hand drying facility.
Showers need 20p. The water temp was either scalding or hot, no good for the kids. When I took a (quick) shower, I had only just shampooed my hair and was rinsing it when the 20p ran out. I was outraged and had to rinse the suds off in the sink!
CHILDREN
My kids are used to meeting & playing with others but it was a site where they should be seen and not heard and as there were no ball games, no play area, they were easily bored. The other kids on the touring site were eerily subdued! While we were setting up they found a sandy pit at the entrance to motorhome area (10 yards from us and 10 from the nearest MH), they were only building a sancastle when the lady from the MH told them to go away and play near their own Van!
This was pretty much the theme of the weekend. Felt like I was in big brother. Frequenly getting checked up on by owners and their lackeys. Kids were playing 'catch' with a tennis ball and we were thrown such filthy looks by the other people there and made to feel very uncomfortable.
This should be marketed as an adult only site.
CHECKOUT
Because the kids had played low-key ball games for about 10-15 mins, we had been 'reported' and upon checkout the lady (who had been perfectly courteous to the guest before me) didn't even look at me and passed me my £20 deposit without saying a word which was quite rude!
This site is a 15 min walk to the beach up very high dunes. It cost £30 for 2 nights plus more because we spent so much time and money keeping away from the site and did not want to go back at the end of the day.
If you have sociable kids who enjoy interracting with others, keep well away from this site. Adults only, I can see the attraction, it is a very tranquil place. Trouble is they nor the owners don't want kids to ruin that.

Nice site but mainly statics.
Toilet block clean but a bit tired no facilities for drying hands.
Nice owners and very spacious not really for kids no play area no ball games but didn't bother us as ours have grown up so doesn't come with us anyway.
The beach is over some quite high sand dunes and I imagine young kids could get lost if free to roam.
The site very quiet with the railway station in to Southport is about 20 mins walk but we got a taxi which cost us 12 quid between four of us.
Across road from Red Squirrel Sanctuary.
Would go again

We spent Easter here. The site was full but not over crowded. It is a basic site, reminded us of a 1960's version of caravanning, but that said it was very relaxed with not too many rules and regulations. Visitors were allowed at no extra cost. We didn't have to pay a deposit even though it was Easter. The site faces the beach and huge sand dunes and is ideal for us to walk our dog (its just a shame alot of people do not pick up their dog poo). The beach is huge and sandy, watch out for the horses! they look fab cantering along the beach. The toilets are old and basic but clean. It's only about an hour from where we live and we feel we have found a little jewel. On arriving we thought we had taken the wrong turning as the site is at the end of a residential area. It's an ideal base for Southport, Crosby and Liverpool. We are going back at the end of August.

Stayed again Second may Bank Holiday 2007. Busy but not full as many people had obviously seen the weather forecast and made some excuse not to turn up. Shame really because whilst the wind and rain hit elsewhere we were spared the brunt of the poor weather and had a Nice weekend yet again, thanks to Margaret and co @ FPCP. Nice quiet site. Great spot for tourers.

Stayed here with my Sister Friday afternoon till Sunday lunchtime. Used it as a base to go to Crosby beach to see the Antony Gormley 'Another place' statues. It is a basic site with mainly static home owners, the touring section is at the back of the site near to the dunes so very quiet and private. Handy for dog walking straight out onto the dunes/coastal walk. There are a few under the trees pitches but we opted for the hard standing around the corner as I did not fancy pine resin etc all over the van. The hardstandings are level, all with hook up. Only ourselves and 2 caravans which was great but the down side is that there is only 1 water tap so would imagine on a bank holiday it could be fun filling up. The toilet block is basic, clean with several showers - a £2 deposit is needed for the key to the block and the showers need 20p coins but they are hot, powerful and last long enough for you do the neccessaries not many places to hang stuff so be warned. Entrance to the site is barrier operated out of hours so a £20 deposit is needed for the barrier key. No facilities for kids as such and it does say 'No ball games' throughout the site. The site is a fair walk (10-15 mins) away from any shops/railway station but there are good rail/bus links to Southport/Liverpool. We walked to Crosby via the beach/countryside - had to divert at Altcar as they would not let us walk through the firing range - spoilsports! picked the coastal path back up at High town. Beware the mud on the beach at Crosby as you can't always see it and I went down in it mid shin level only 15 feet from the edge of the beach! Luckily there are toilets for cleaning off (20p). Caught the train back - they run approx every 15 mins Mon to sat. Will use this site again.

To think just an hour from the hustle and bustle of Manchester and even less from Liverpool and surrounding areas you could find such a quiet site. Margaret was very helpful in our booking and they even let us stay on late to have an afternoon BBQ. The Touring area is right next to the dunes and unspoilt beaches. Hot clean showers, nice staff and in an area unspoilt by overcrowding. The area is very quiet and suits couples seeking peace and quiet or families on a low budget who just want to let the kids run free in a safe area without the pull on the pockets of Fairs and fish and chips shops. Love it and will be back soon only thing missing amongst the pine tress? One or two flower beds.

Nice big pitches hard standing with grassed areas £13 a night with electric. A short walk to beach plenty of paths in sand dunes no road noise. Quiet when we visted about 6 units. Toilets, showers adjacent to pitches. Pitches on the edge of static site very private. Would go again

We stayed at Formby Point after a trip around the Scottish Highlands and Islands and this was by far the least value for money. The cost of showers was extra - not included in the price! There were no laundry facilities or recycling facilities. The owners were very inflexible with the arrival time, we had to arrive before 6pm or would have been locked out, despite having informed them that we were travelling from Scotland and there was a possibility we may arrive after this time. It is rather unfortunate that this site has the monopoly for this area as the surrounding beaches, sand dunes and Red Squirrel reserve are unique to the area and well worth a visit.
