This site is only 35 miles from our home and we stay every year at the start of the season. This gives us a chance to 'try' everything out to make sure nothing has bust during the winter.
If you want a site that is tranquillity itself, you won't be disappointed.
It's family run and wonderfully laid out with paddock type areas
If you tell them you want the 'old codgers area' you will be directed to a child free area, which suits us down to the ground as ours are now all grown up.
Couple of good pubs within walking distance, plus a village shop.
The market town of Barnard Castle is just a short drive, and it has a busy market on a Wednesday.

This was our first time in our caravan. We arrived at the site which my Husband found really easy to get to towing the caravan on the roads leading upto the site. The site was lovely. Very generous and spacious pitches and level all the water, waste chemical and bins well situated. Toilets and shower blocks again very spacious and clean. We really enjoyed our stay and would recommend Doe park. And if we head this way again we would definitely stay here. There is a small post office in the village but you do have to look for it as we missed it at first and check the opening times. The fox and hounds up is within walking distance of the site, though as a family of 4 we found the food rather expensive but it was good food. Drinks were a good price. Barnard castle and surrounding shops is well worth a visit we enjoyed a great day out just around this area, also high force waterfalls stunning to look at.

We have recently returned after a brief but enjoyable stay at this excellent site.
A pleasant and helpful welcome, choice of well-kept, spacious pitches and facilities which are comparable to many Caravan Club sites, mean that we will look forward to arranging another longer stay. We would endorse all the previous favourable comments.
The owners clearly make a big effort to keep everything looking neat and tidy and not surprisingly, even in late September the site was almost full. Recommended.
Teesdale is superb walking country, and apart from the attractive villages, Barnard Castle and Middleton-in-Teesdale are both interesting places.

Top site, owners friendly and helpful. Showers, toilets etc spotless. Hard and grass pitches level. Tv reception v. good. Plenty of books magazines etc to borrow. Beautiful places to visit (too many to mention) Barnard Castle about 3 miles away - lovely pubs and shops. Also morrisons supermarket. Must visit middleton in teasdale and High Force (highest waterfall in England) Will definitely go back.

We stayed here at the beginning of August for a week. It was our second visit as we also went there last year. Hard to fault this site. It is immaculately kept - the grass is lovely and green and lush. Toilets etc all spotless. Lovely information centre which also houses reception. You can borrow books etc from here. The owners are very friendly and approachable.
The area is wonderful - my kids especially loved playing in all the streams around. Cotherstone has a small shop and a pub. Barnard castle is about 3 miles away and has a supermarket and quite a few shops. We got a really nice indian takeaway and kids enjoyed their pizza from pizza cottage.
This was a real walking /playing outside holiday and we didn;t spend much on days out which was bonus.
Kids loved playing with all the children on the site and it was great being able to let them have more freedom than usual in a safe environment.

Just got back from three nights at this fabulous site. It well deserves it's four stars. All the facilities are great. The 20p showers are long enough. Everything is clean and well cared for.
The owners are very helpful both in pitching and local knowledge. They even lent us an OS map. There are miles of excellent walks with a lot starting at or near the site. We walked to Ronaldkirk on the old railway trackbed, sampled the delights of the Kirk Inn, then refuelled picked up the Teesdale trail alongside the Tees and back to the site. All wonderful and varied scenery. We plan to return.

Thought we would try Doe Park again this year in 'Peak Season' having visited earlier in the year. It was almost full but the friendly reception managed to fit us in for a two day stay. You can see from the reviews that campers just love Doe Park and return year after year and we can see why. Its still the 'best overall site' in the North East(our View) and we think the location, standard of pitches and lovely well kept grounds and relaxed atmosphere are just magic. Well away from passing roads at night you are guaranteed a very peaceful nights sleep.
Wanting a walk first day we crossed the well marked track over 3 open fields to the 'Teesdale Railway Path' where you can wonder along as far as Barnard Castle one way and Middleton in Teesdale the other way, without any traffic so ideal for cycling as well and just brilliant for dogowners and walkers of every fitness level. Ie no hills but lovely views. We ended up at the 'Crown at Mickleton' pub for a meal in the newly opened restuarant ( FAB) and then we walked back stopping at the Kirk in Romalkirk on the way back. Note no traffic.
Even in mid summer there's loads of space for children to meet up and play at Doe Park. They seem to form friendships automatically and must say were all very well behaved. We noticed that Doe Park has two toilet blocks which are always well kept and if ones being cleaned the other one is always opened, unlike some sites where you see the Dreaded 'Closed for cleaning' sign when you are bursting for a. So we will be back and thanks Doe Park for a lovely stay.

We have just returned from an overnight stay at this beautiful site.
The owners are very friendly, laid back and welcoming and gave us a choice of 2 plots.
The site is extremely well kept with well mowed grass and pretty flowers and trees/shrubs to separate the individual plots.
The toilets and washing up facilities are spotless with lashings of hot water. Showers and hairdryer are 20p but everything else is free.
There is an additional field to the caravan bays where there is limited hook up but availability for both tents and caravans/campers. This is mainly perimeter pitching leaving ample room in the middle of the field for the kids to play rounders, cricket, tennis etc.
We went with the intention of doing the Hannah Hauxwell (Dales Woman) walk. However, on arrival at the site the very friendly owners gave us information on 2 local walks which were fantastic. We will just have to return again in order to complete our initial mission.

We stayed for a weekend and although the site was busy, the facilities coped well with the numbers and the site did not feel crowded. The wardens were very friendly and helpful. There were a number of walks from the site and the owners were relaxed about allowing dogs onto their fields which had been harvested and free from stock. We took note of the review which mentioned tree sap, but this was not an issue as there only appeared to be 1 pitch out of 70 with overhanging trees. Will definitely go back again.
