We stayed at this lovely site over May Bank Holiday. Although busy the site was still peaceful and we enjoyed the fabulous weather. Staff were friendly and helpful, facilities spotless and pitches well spaced. The walks from the site were great for our dog and the 2 village pubs are dog friendly. Our first visit to the area but we will be back.

Our 3rd visit in as many years and although still our favourite site to visit, we will never do it over a bank holiday again. Pitches were allocated this time and the reason given was because they were full. We usually tuck ourselves away in a corner so that we can have privacy but also because we have a big dog so like to make sure we do not impact too much on other campers when in and out of the van and also like to put up our windbreak to keep him enclosed but allowing him to not have to have his lead on before leaving the van. We were given what can only be described as the smallest pitch for a biggish motorhome on the site. Hemmed in between 2 caravans taking up a lot of room, we felt restricted, confined to our MH most of the time (on the hottest weekend of the year so far) as we had nowhere even to put our chairs out without feeling we were encroaching on other peoples space. We had no room whatsoever to have put our windbreak up or even open up our sun canopy. The van opposite however had a big awning and room for 3 cars! Under observation, it appeared that there was an underlying clique and some other clientele had been able to choose their pitches to suit their camping needs. I feel short changed at paying the same money as everyone else and yet, their money seemed to buy a lot more space than mine did. This is my only bugbear as our usual walks, the cleanliness and facilities and the weather was great for those able to sit out and enjoy it. We will be back, maybe later on this year or wait until next and definitely not in a peak time.

First time at this site. Brilliant. A lovely, quiet location, only sounds are the crows (took me back to when I watched the film 'The Birds':)). Also plenty of sheep and cattle. There are two toilet blocks. The one opposite the reception houses the pot washing block. They are all kept very clean. A bit of negative is that there could be more lighting on the site, so I would suggest you bring a torch, although saying this, its great for star-gazing, though it was cloudy when we stayed, and there could be more water taps. The only ones about are located at the toilet blocks only. There is no on-site shop, you need to head to the village of Cotherstone, a few minutes in the car, where there's a village shop, and very nice and friendly it is. The nearest supermarket, Morrisons, is in Barnard Castle, although I didn't know about this until I was talking to some people staying on the site, and they had a Smart phone which told them, and they said it was hard to find as it was at the back of the town. Would I stay here, absolutely. I gave the site's facilities 9/10 as it didn't have a shop, even for basics, eg, milk or bread. The staff are really very nice and friendly.

Great site
Myself and my friends have now been to this site twice the second time because we loved the first time Nice sized pitch and lovely location
The site staff are very polite and helpful which is always a bonus
There are two toilet blocks which means there is no problem with washing showering or going to the toilet And they are kept very clean, there is also plenty of space for taking dogs for a walk and being able to let them off the lead is a bonus, The only thing I feel that this site could do with is a Childs play area but children being children they Will always find something to do
Without doubt myself and my friends will visit this site again

We were only here for a few days but we've already decided that we'll be going back for a longer stay. The staff are very friendly and only too keen to help you with advice about site, places to visit whether its to shop or something to eat.
There is plenty of room around each hard standing pitch. There are 2 toilet/ shower blocks with showers requiring 20p coins to use. There is also a large rally field which is also used for those who camping. Because the site owners are also farmers there are miles of available space to walk or exercise the dog.
Because the site is in a country location so people should take care when towing as some of the roads can be narrow but when the caravan is off you are ideally situated to tour, the Gateshead Metro centre is about an hour away while the town of Bernard Castle is about 15 minutes away.

Just got back from 3 night stay, we were met by a very helpful BIG Steven who showed us the site on foot and let us pick our pitch, of a generous size I must add, he then parked our van for us as I'm still useless at reversing ! the site was pretty busy but toilet and showers were always immaculate. We didn't use the pubs in nearby Cotherstone as we were to busy on the great walks into Barnard Castle and up to Romoldkirk watching the wild life on the way, a buzzard being bombed from a height by a sparrow hawk, a soaring Red kite, wild deer running through a meadow. Did have a couple in the Turks Head in Barny though. All in all a very good w/e and very reasonable at £20 a night with awning and electric. Will certainly be returning very soon!

Just returned from a three night break at Doe Park. The site is well laid out with mature hedges separating the two paddocks. All pitches are on level ground most with hard standing. The toilet block in the centre of the site was in good order and cleaned daily. All members of staff we came in contact with were very friendly and helpful.

We previously stayed at Doe Park in a touring caravan several years ago and were so impressed with the warm welcome, facilities and surrounding area that we made a promise there and then that we would return!
Sadly, circumstances led to us parting company with our tourer but not to be outdone and intent on enjoying a short break, we decided to take advantage of the site's new 'teardrop' caravan which is now available for hire.
The site was exactly as we remembered it: we were met by Alison who made us feel so welcome and the site was in excellent condition.
We were hugely impressed with our 'little van' and awning. We were provided with tea, coffee, milk and all the bedding we needed which meant packing was so much easier. We found the caravan to be extremely comfortable and surprisingly roomy.
The caravan even came with a spacious awning and outdoor furniture so we were able to sit outside and enjoy a glass of wine as the sun set!
We went on the enjoy a terrific walk and explored parts of the village of Cotherstone which we'd not seen before including a delightful walk along the disused railway line. The scenery was simply fantastic.
Full marks to Alison and her team for this clever initiative. I have no doubt whatsoever that we will hire the 'teardrop' van again. It's the perfect way to go caravanning without the hassle of taking a caravan!

We used to come here years ago with a tent. Now we've got a campervan, and were delighted to be able to stay here again. Its a lovely site, friendly, plenty of space, spotless facilities. There is walking from the door, and Cotherstone offers some pubs etc. On Friday night we were delighted to find a local chippy brought his wagon along - we enjoyed fish, chips and mushy peas.
We'll certainly stay again - if you don't need electric, they can usually fix you up in the rally field.

First time at this site, we arrived on a Friday afternoon to a very warm and friendly welcome.
They have a fish and chip delivery on a Friday which we ordered and weren't disappointed, they were delicious.
The pitches are large and very well spaced out, most have electric and the site is divided into paddocks so it's sheltered from the wind. The whole site is really well looked after, pretty and spotlessly clean. Easy access to lots of walks and it's about 15 minutes stroll along the river into Cotherstone village which has 2 dog friendly pubs and a handy grocers.
Showers and toilets very clean and plenty of hot water. 20p a shower and I never ran out of time. My only minor niggles are that it could benefit from another shower and toilet block. When the rally field is full I imagine they get pretty crowded. Also, a little playground for the kids would be great.
Really good value for money and lovely owners/staff. Overall we loved it here and will definitely be back.
