Certainly this is one of the most laid back and friendly sites that we have been to. The owners provide a good welcome and do their utmost to help throughout your stay. It almost at times feels like family. The site is well ordered and tidy. The newer toilet & shower block and the older block remained spotless throughout our long weekend stay which was in the height of the summer period. There was ample room for tents in the large field even though we were informed that the site was full over the period we were there. There was no feeling of congestion at all and no waiting for facilities. Although there was no shop onsite the owners could provide a few basics to help you through, but having said that, the local shop is only a stroll away in Cotherstone village. Perfectly placed for Barnard Castle and Teesdale, this is a site that is well recommended and one that we shall certainly use again.

Great little site and not commercialised club owners either. Plenty of space, great for local amenities. A good stop off for the lakes. All in all a good site which is well worth a visit.
Oh and cheap too. No shop on site except for eggs and milk but with Barnard Castle a few minutes away who cares.

We have been away every week for the last 2 months and although we usually take the caravan, this time we decided to go with the tent as we got away later than normal. So armed with various numbers off this site, I was task master to find us a pitch for the night at late notice as Dave was driving all night! I rang a few and as it was last minute was not holding out much hope. All of them were full. I rang Doe Park and they too were full but relented in giving us a pitch for the one night as we were alone with no children in tow! The guy I spoke with on the phone was really helpful. We arrived next day around lunchtime. You have to go out through the other side of Barnard to get there but only by a few miles. The site was lovely and tidy, very well ran and well maintained. The grass was even and neat and from what I studied, the caravans had plenty space for awnings and still generous space left after that. Nothing was cramped or overcrowded. The washing up facilities were modern and clean at all times. No queue there. The showers were clean and tidy and the ladies loos each had a sink in there too. As well as separate washing area at basins with curtain for privacy. There is a mop for mopping up after each use in the shower, which I found to be more helpful as there is nothing worse than going for a shower to find someone has soaked the place! The showers were 20p but for your 20p I got a good wash and still had time left but did not need it, so I would assume you get a long shower for your 20p! There is no bar on this site, no children's play area that I could see ( We have no small children anyway) so you have to make your own entertainment. The local pub fox and hounds, does not open through the day. That is a good mile up the road and I would not recommend it for anyone with a disability. All in all a lovely site with lovely surroundings but the sheep in the next field never tire of bleating! lol. The majority of ppl there took their dogs but I can honestly say I never really heard one yappy dog. This site is well suited to folk looking for a peaceful few days away with lots of lovely scenery but still close enough to the main town to be able to shop at Morrison's etc. We will go back, but next time with the Caravan. The owners were nice and friendly and we enjoyed our stay. The majority of the ppl staying there were over 55 and all seemed to get on extremely well. We would recommend this site and we will return. Thank you.

We have just returned home from this site, and It really could'nt have been nicer. The owners were very helpful, the facilities were spotless, the scenery and walks were fabulous. All in all, we had a wonderful few days, and will definitely be returning ! The strange thing about it is, the site is on our doorstep, and we didnt know it was there!

Very friendly and clean place! Quite and well kept site was perfect for our stay. One thing...we arrived late and went to the local eatery (the fox and the hound...just a ten minute walk from site) and while it was lovely was more expensive than we bargained for. Really enjoyed the meal but was a bit startled at the cheapest main being about £10! Great grub and fab pub...just a quick heads up for anyone going in unaware!

Just returned home from our second visit to this site this season. Toilets and showers immaculate. Owner does an excellent job in maintaining this site to a very high standard. The other reason we enjoy our visit here is it enables us to do some excellent walking in the beautiful countryside you find in this area. Make sure you take cash or cheque to pay it does not take credit cards. You can also leave your van on site for £2 a night in between visits. One of our favourite sites.

Lovely quiet, clean site, generous pitch sizes and a couple of villages (pubs) and also the river within walking distance. The site is ideal for dog owners and walkers with miles of walks accessible from the site. Owners are very friendly and show you round the site and give a you a choice of pitches available! Only critisicm is that the sites popularity means that it could do with extra ammenities, queues for the showers and toilets do not make for happy campers and caravanners! However do not let that put you off it's a lovely site.

What a find! This site is in such a beautiful part of the country. We paid £11.50 per night for an enormous pitch, electric hook-up,hartford xxl tent 2 adults and 2 young children. The grass was perfect in every way. It was short, totally weedfree, no bare patches and well drained. The shower block was clean, bright and heated. Mop and bucket to clean the floor after showering. 20p for loads of hot water in the shower. The owners of the Grand Hall run the site so it has a nice friendly, family atmosphere. We will be returning to this site frequently next year. We only wish we knew about it earlier this year. Highly recommended in every way!!

May 2004 Excellent site, very clean toilet/shower blocks and washing-up area, also very quiet. Only 10 minutes walk over the fields to the Fox & Hounds in Cotherstone, a very well-recommended pub with great food. One word of warning - we found out on arrival that they're not too keen anymore on tents, due to past experiences with noisy campers! They did let us stay, but only because we looked OK! It's worth phoning ahead to make sure they'll take you if you're in a tent, as the farmer did say he rarely accepts tents if the site has a large number of caravanners.
