We stayed here over August bank holiday weekend, as we had a last minute change of plan and this was the first site in the area we managed to find which wasn't already booked up. We decided that this was probably though due to their almost complete lack of advertising rather than any major problems with the site and thankfully we were proved right!

Even on bank holiday weekend this site had plenty of room. The fields are all slightly sloping overall but we had no trouble finding a level enough area to pitch a family tent; there was a large empty area in the middle of the field for the kids to play ball games. The site was very quiet especially at night, though I suspect this was more a function of the type of people staying there rather than any active policy of noise control on the part of the owners. There was some noise from the nearby road in the early morning but nothing too bad. In fact the noise which woke me up was the horses in the next field 'harrumphing' right beside our tent!

This is definitely a 'get what you pay for' site in terms of facilities, but none the worse for that. We paid £7 per night for a family tent with no hook-up, although we got the impression that their charging was a bit ad-hoc so you might be able to bargain even cheaper if you want to try. Washrooms are basic but adequate and clean. Although there were only 3 showers and 3 toilets in the ladies, I never had to queue. One gripe was that there was only one washing up sink, for which there was sometimes a queue. It was situated right next to the chemical disposal, which was not very pleasant. There is no shop, play area, dog walk area etc but these are all available nearby.

In general, if you are happy to go back to a more basic style of camping at reasonable cost, then this site could be worth a visit.

We have just returned from a week's stay at the above site. We had the pleasure of having seen the site before, even though we hadn't stayed on it. The 3 fields are all sloping. We were in the 2nd part, the middle field. In hindsight, it might have been better to have pitched in the upper field, at the top of the site. Not only would we have enjoyed a better view across the valley, we would have found it easier to decamp. We had a lot of rain during the week, and the ground was sodden. I found it hard with my FWD car to pull the caravan off the pitch, even though the car has traction control. The general condition of the site was good. Grass was mown regularly, it was clean and litter free. The toilet/shower block was old, but for all that, was serviceable. The gents part boasted 2 showers, 2 'sit-downs', 3 'stand-ups' and 2 washbasins. The ladies faired better with 3 showers, 3 cubicles and 3 washbasins. A small word of warning., on one occasion, while in No. 2 shower, early in the morning, I got pinned in one corner by the very hot water coming out. It only lasted a short time before it got to a reasonable level. I had my normal moan about the lack of places in the showers to put things, like somewhere dry to put my glasses and the floor getting wet, so nowhere dry to dress. There is no shop on site. The nearest shops are in Wells, about 5 minutes car drive away. There's a fairly large Tesco's in the centre of the town There is no playground or dog walk either, so it's a basic site. The lady owner/warden was apparent by her absence. We saw her once when we arrived (she only came up to see if we were who she thought we were). Our second sighting was when I managed to 'test' the trip on the electric hook-up by 'testing' the equipment in our new caravan !! only 8 amps BTW. The third time was when we went to find her to pay for the pitch (this was a week later !!) The area was a good base for the local attractions Cheddar Gorge, Caves, Jacobs Ladder & The Mendip Hills Wookey Hole Caves Wells Cathedral Clarkes Village (for the ladies) at Street Glastonbury and it's Tor. (the Old Abbey is worth a visit) The Kennet & Avon Canal (we cycled from Bradford-Upon-Avon to Bath) Bath & West Show at Shepton Mallet (early June) Plans to return ? None at the moment. It's a shame that the weather was so bad the week we were there. No matter how hard one tries to be objective, the rain did make a difference. We won't be able to think of Wells now without remembering how wet it was. Pitch price was low we felt at £6.50 PN including awning. There didn't seem to be a charge for our electric hook-up ?
