This was our second trip to Hoddom and cannot fault the site. The pitches are large and you never feel as if you are "on top of one another" like other sites. The Toilets and showers were always clean and the washing up facilities are plenty. The playground is ample to keep our 7 & 10 yr old daughters happy there is also cycle hire and games room(pool table n a couple of video games) if that is your thing. The shop has the basics that you would expect (you have to order your paper day in advance) The Pub on site serves great basket meals(Can recommend the beefburger n chips at £2.90 ). For the hardy type there are non electric pitches There is plenty to do around the area and would suggest Mabie Forest and Dalton Pottery are well worth a visit. All in All a site and an area well worth a visit

Just come back from Hoddom Castle, been here for the Easter period, everything perfect as usual. The new take away is opened which you access from the side entrance and not through the restaurant which is much better. Very quick service. Bar meals and restaurant food excellent and very reasonably priced. Site was packed and all toilet facilities clean as usual. Great place, everyone must visit at some point! Highly recommended

What a lovely place, Staff very friendly and helpful the grounds where in great condition and the pitches where out off this world. very quiet site. small pub very nice and the food was hot and homely worth every penny. Would go again great walks in and around the site enough to keep the kids entertained with out draining your pocket. Also for the lady's! For a small deposit you can have a bath which my wife loved as she hadn't had one for 10 day only showers at the other site so a real luxury. And the toilet and shower blocks was out off this world very very clean! Good stop off for when heading home from sunny wales back to Edinburgh. 5 MINS FROM MOTORWAY
ps when going it just over the bridge when going over the annan if coming from the motorway. we missed it and had to drive 4 mile to get the van turned lol

Hoddom Castle is an exceptionally good site, one of the best I've been to so far. Set in the grounds of the castle the pitches are mostly level hard-standing (some drive on-off) but there is also an extensive grassy area for tents etc.
The toilet blocks are clean and well maintained and the showers are good (and free). Site facilities include a play area, small shop, bar, mountain bike trail, crazy golf, table-tennis, games room (including a couple of pool tables) and a reasonable 9-hole par 34 golf course (£10 for the day). A couple of holes run alongside the river Annan and Salmon & Seatrout fishing is available.
There is lots to do in the local area. We were only there for a couple of days but the kids enjoyed the visit to Caerlaverock Castle and also Dalton Pottery where they decorated their own pots.

A good site, well maintained, very clean toilet and shower facilities. A key is required to use them. Beautiful picturesque setting in the grounds of a mostly derelict castle.
There is a games room, crazy golf, cycle hire, outdoor giant draughts board onsite and a golf course adjacent. The laundry is well equipped and clean. The onsite pub has a warm and friendly atmosphere, but the restaurant is disappointing when you walk inside. The building is part of the castle, but once inside is reminiscent of a school dining room. The menu has good choice and the quality of food is good. Not a licensed restaurant, but you can walk to the pub (next door) and take your drink into the restaurant for your meal.
Hardstanding touring pitches are very hard and prove difficult to drive in your awning pegs. Rock pegs are a must! Electric hook-up points are not evenly spaced between pitches and can prove a stretch for your cable on some pitches.
It is a fair old trek to the one and only chemical disposal point which is closer to the tent field than the caravan pitches.
TV reception is non existent on most of the site, with limited availability at the top end of the site.

August 2004 Spacious, well kept, quiet site. The castle ruins make for quite a back drop. Clean free showers. Play area for kids a little dodgy as no soft landing material on the ground so you have to be there, arms out stretched ready to catch them. Golf course next door if you play, and plenty of interesting walks. Shop and restaurant on site but we didn't use them so I can't comment.
Both staff and visitors seemed friendly and we enjoyed our stop. Would go back any time. P.S. don't forget your midgey cream the little blighters are like piranhas.

March 2005 Just arrived back from Hoddom Castle a couple of weeks. The place is in good condition and as usual it was packed. It was the first weekend opening over the Easter period and it was very cold but as usual extremely good. The bar was open and the restaurant and takeaway place was open. The food was excellent as was the service. Will be going up again at every opportunity we get.

October 2004 We found this site perfectly adequate. It is a large site - our kids are 9 and 7 and I let them go to the park but wouldn't have let them wander at will. The mountain bike trail seemed to please the cyclists and the showers are amazing - loads of them - as has already been noted. The pitches are clear, the grass is mown and the shop is ok but not full of essentials. ie no bacon!!
However, we would come back here again - didn't try the bar etc. You are close to Caerlaverock bird reserve and castle which is well worth a visit.

August 2004 Hoddom Castle is absolutely a superb site for pitching a tent. All pitches are clearly marked and are spaced far enough out. The club house is nice and the staff are very friendly. There is also a restaurant which does superb meals at reasonable prices and also a takeaway service. Shame there is no swimming pool but plenty of space for kids to run around and also play areas. Golf course is good for all those golfers and its easy access to get to lockerbie and annan.

August 2004 Other reviews appear to have been on the generous side, the site is I agree well laid out and quite clean, however if you want an electric hook-up for your tent you will be put in the furthest point from the showers possible, not a nice distance in the rain. The electrics will blow a fuse if you try to boil an electric kettle. The shop is tiny for such a vast site and very poorly stocked. The bar is excellent and very reasonably priced. The site is quite remote as no shops in neighbouring Ecclefechan, a few shops in Annan and Lockerbie but for anything more than basic supplies you need to travel to Carlisle or Dumfries. I quite like dogs but it appears they are almost compulsory on this site, if you don't like dogs avoid this place ! Staff were at best accommodating. An expensive place to stay. We cut short our holiday short by two days, glad to get back home. Shan't return.
