Just spent two nights on The Duke William, we were attending a family Christening in Matlock and The Duke William was the nearest site to the town centre.
The price of £4.00 per night was very good value, which included the free use of the very nice shower. The site is in a field behind the pub with a slight slope, but the grass had been cut. The bells on the church do ring every 15 mins which were slightly annoying. I agree it is best to go past the pub turn round and enter car park coming downhill as it is a very tight left turn otherwise.Overall we will be returning to this site.

The weekend we visited was during the floods and the camping field was flooded but the landlord allowed us and 4 other motorhomes to us the carpark.
The entrance to the carpark going uphill is very steep and tricky and I would advise anyone with a long overhang to go past, turn around and approach coming downhill.
The pub itself was excellent with good food and a friendly atmosphere. A bit of a trek back uphill from matlock.
The only thing that spoilt the visit was the church bells which I never noticed til 6.30am on the sunday morning when the beer effect wore off.
Other than that it was a most enjoyable stopover.

A very nice site and clean too. The church bells would only wake you if you are a light sleeper, but after an evening in the pub you will hardly notice them. One of the friendliest landlords you could meet and the food and entertainment on the Saturday night we stayed were both excellent. The site is within walking distance of the town centre and there is a little play area for children. There isn't a washing up area and only one shower, but toilets are separate so you shouldn't have a problem queueing for the loo. The site itself is gently sloping and you have a fair bit of space even at busy times. We will definitely be returning.

We have stayed on this site twice now, and as the other reviews state it is a small site with no electric hook up. However the site is clean, with 24 hour toilet and shower facilities. On both visits the loo's and showers were spotless. The site as a beautiful view of the local area and of Riber castle. The Duke William staff were friendly and the food was good value for money. It is in walking distance of local facilities, bars and a nice park area for the children. The church bells are loud, but have a nice glass of wine before bed and you tend not to notice them. We are defiantly returning to this site.

Small but friendly site which was occupied by tents, campers and one caravan and converted coach. Although it only states WC on the site, it does actually have a 24 hour shower and toilet unit. The bar staff were friendly and helpful and it cost us £3.50 per Adult (2 of us) and £2 for our son. Highly recommended but do take some ear plugs as the church clock chimes every half hour and can cause light sleepers a bit of a problem. Bar food excellent with entertainment, all you can eat carvery is worth the £7.50 per person.

I haven't been camping since I was a little girl and I'm 34 now so this was a real experience, my boyfriend, my 4 year old son and I went camping to this camp site we stayed for 1 night. The camp site itself was small but friendly, the pub was really nice, even though it doesn't state it on the website it has got a 24 hour toilet and shower block which was clean. Its got a small play area for the children but nothing else. It's really close to Matlock bath, the only down side is the church bell which has got a quarterly chime and this was really annoying so if your planning on visiting I would suggest a set of ear plugs. Its got no electric hook up but this didn't bother us. I would certainly visit this site again.
