Beautiful clean site in a stunning location.
The top toilet and shower block was very clean and spacious. Plenty of hot water. The block on the camp field appeared older and not quiet as good.
The caravan pitches vary in size and some are very close to the neighbouring pitches. Also the best place on the site is near the top due to the views and a long walk back up a steep hill to the shower block from the lower pitches. Remember to take a big hammer and some decent hard ground pegs as the ground for your awning is quite hard.
A shop on site with adjoining cafe which serves an excellent breakfast at a reasonable price. The shop itself is well stocked with food, bits and pieces, beer and wine. There is also a pub just outside the main gate. An excellent campers kitchen is provided which uses tokens available at the reception. This includes microwave, hobs, toasters and kettle. Wash-up sinks are in this area and large with plenty of free hot water. There are tables and chairs available. The room next door has seating with games and a drinks vending machine. This is the area where we believe you can get wireless Internet connection. There is a games room with ping pong, table football and pool table. There are laundry facilities.
There is a public footpath just by the entrance that takes you into Keswick.
All in all this is a very pleasant site and I would recommend a visit.

Castlerigg hall is a beautiful site in an idyllic setting. The site is very clean, and the facilities are excellent - with the exception of the camping field shower block. It is a bit shabby and in need of upgrade (its clean though and kept clean throughout the day). The campers kitchen is fantastic and has electric hobs, kettles, microwaves, tables and chairs and a freezer - oh and don't forget the telly! We used this a couple of times due to our tent leaking every time the rain started. The camping field is on quite a slope, and its not really too easy to find a good pitch when its busy. Having said that, if you don't mind sleeping on a slope then there's not a problem. The site is quite well drained too and no mud baths when packing up in the rain. One negative I have is that a lot of drivers were choosing to park their vehicles beside their tents, which was taking up space on the field and also leaving big tyre marks too. There is ample space for parking around the field.
The other shower block was fantastic and had small wash cubicles as well as showers. Games room was good too and the laundrette. Another thing that impressed me was that the site has free wifi access too. The on camp shop was great and reasonably priced too. As was the on site cafe - food is cooked to order, so don't be surprised at a slight wait for your breakfast. It will be worth the wait.
There isn't a kids play park, but there's a fab big field for ball games etc and the views from the field are phenomenal. The staff were efficient and generally friendly. No problems on site with noise either.
This site is fantastic and the only thing that let it down for us was our tent - which was returned to the shop after our visit.

Had 2 nights here and had wanted to try it out since we'd had a wander around whilst stopping at Castlerigg Farm across the road.
Its a nice site with excellent facilities though we only used the showers, toilets and bathroom (so nice after a hard day on the hills to be able to soak in a bath). The showers are free and the bathroom is available for £2.50 for half an hour.
Facilities on site which we never used are a kitchen and dining room, games room, laundry room and shop.
There are three separate toilet/shower blocks, one at each of the 2 tent fields plus the main block near the reception.
The tent fields themselves are quite big, both fields are sloped though so if you like flat pitches you're out of luck, though if you are lucky you may find a patch of ground that isn't to bad.
There is a large recreation field for the kids to stretch their legs playing ball games or whatever else they want to do, can recommend kite flying as the field always seems to get a breeze.
Lovely views from the site, handy road access to the rest of the Lake District, 555 Kewick to Lancaster buses stop at the end of the lane leading to the site so if you have a walk down to Keswick and don't fancy the steep walk back up its not a problem.
Lots of walks from the site are included in a guide book available form the reception together with a map of the walks.
All in all a great site.

This was our 1st visit to Castlerigg as we normally head for Limefitt, however that campsite is alot smaller than it used to be so we headed for Castlerigg Hall. We had a brilliant time, it was cold on a night time but the views and the walks are amazing. The staff are all very friendly and the toilets etc are very clean. We were only going to stay for seven nights but ended up staying for ten. Very laid back campsite and nothing is too much trouble for the staff, we hope to back for August bank holiday fingers crossed. Our daughter also loved the goats and the pony.

Stopped on this site in july amid heavy downpours the tent pitch we had was well drained. The site shop was well stocked and the staff helpful. The toilet block near reception was nice & clean hot showers and driers. Laundry, kitchen & lounge area kept nice. The whole of the site very pleasant what would have made it even better would be hook ups for tents.

Have camped here a couple of times and whilst it is a great campsite the field for tent pitches is on a hill, I'd often wake up in middle of night halfway down the bed

Stayed 2 nights, Fri & Sat after failing to get in at Caravan Club site on the lake in Keswick which was full to overflowing. Having seen the hoards of people there, Castlerigg turned out to be a much better option. Site is in a beautiful location with fantastic views over the lake. Grounds are well maintained. On site takeaway / cafe was very handy, Saturday night pizzas and early morning bacon butties went down well with the kids. Pub in the hotel at the end of the drive (not part of the site) is a bit shabby but decent enough for a drink and bite to eat. Toilet block in tent field was clean but only 2 showers, main toilet block near reception was much better, modern, clean, plenty of showers and loads of hot water. Free freezer in Campers Kitchen was useful, able to buy food for bbq at the market in Keswick and store for a few hours. Weather was superb which always makes a difference. A childrens play area would have been good but kids were happy enough kicking a ball around on the football field. Overall a very good site, would certainly return.

A word of warning - this site is not for those of you who prefer very basic sites, or ones with few facilities in remote locations. However, Castlerigg Hall has much to recommend it.
The views from the wooded tent camping field are exceptional. From the pitch we chose there were uninterrupted views of Skiddaw, Keswick and Bassenthwaite Lake, and these were especially impressive in the evening. Tents and caravans - never ideal bedfellows - are completely separate.
The camping block has toasters, freezers, hobs, washing machines, excellent showers, a games room and an exceptionally well stocked shop. This means it is far removed from the type of site we usually head for. Despite this, we couldn't help but be charmed by Castlerigg Hall.
The site is incredibly well looked after, and the owners and staff have a clear conservation agenda that goes well beyond the usual commercial concerns of such large sites.
One of the best things about the place is the location. The proximity to both Keswick and the Castlerigg stone circle are clear advantages. The walk into Keswick is along a very beautiful path through some glorious woodland, with terrific views of Derwentwater.
I came here with a small group of friends and we would definitely all stay here again.

We visited this site near Keswick at Easter this year, this was our second visit. We were very lucky, we arrived early and avoided the rush, the staff were very accommodating. The facilities here are generally excellent, the cafe provides a takeaway menu in the morning and in the evening, portion size is great for the price, however it gets busy. We noticed that they would make up flasks for campers who had limited kit, we felt that this was real old fashioned service. The campers kitchen and lounge area came in real handy when the weather turned cold one evening, very relaxed and friendly atmosphere. One downside is that the shower block on the camping field is starting to show signs of age, it would benefit from a real deep clean. However a short stroll and you at in the main facilities, centrally heated, all mod cons, at no extra charge, it is worth the short walk! Great site, but it does get really busy at bank holidays, best to have a back up plan as they don't accept bookings for tents which is a real shame, I think they have a great campsite, it would be nice if they could reward repeat customers with the facility to book a pitch in high season.

It was my first time staying at this site as was unsuccessful trying to book on a near by "camping and Caravan Club" campsite for one night so we took a chance and drove down as they don't allow tents to book as it's first come first serve.
When we arrived the staff on reception were very helpful, and looked like they had lots of information on the area. The Tent field is off to one side and well away from the road, during the day you could slightly hear some traffic but it's really background noise and at night no traffic can be heard. They have plenty of tent spaces with us having a big tent (a Vango Diablo 400) we had plenty of room for the car as well and the field could of held more tents.
The toilets and showers were always clean and tidy.
Would recommend to people to visit here, and I will be revisiting this site in the future.
