Me and my partner stayed at Penrose campsite for 1 lovely week. If you don't mind going back to basics (with clean and fully working showers and toilets - with hot water) but would like great view and ample space then this is the campsite for you. Value for money can not be beaten.

We stayed in the far field furthest from the toilet/shower block and had so much space to chose from as well as a cracking view of the sea from our tent.

There is so much room for children to play without getting in the way of other campers.

The campsite is also only a 10 min walk (be it a very steep hill) down to Porthleven which is a lovely harbour village.

The campsite owners are so friendly and helpful and make everyone feel welcome throughout their stay.

The campsite have facilities to freeze ice packs for you down the lane although sometimes they did take a very long time to freeze fully.

The campsite encourages camp fires which for us was a winner from the start.

We would highly recommend this campsite to anyone who wants to experience real camping. We will definitely be returning.

We just turned up and found a secluded spot on one of the five fields. The lady caught up with us the following day, tenner a night for 2 adults.

No electric. Short walk to village which has everything you need plus a nice beach. More tent orientated.

Luckily I had filled up with water before I got there as getting near the tap was a bit tricky.

No chemical toilet disposal. Great views and overall a great place for basic camping.

We visited for 6 nights - 8 of us in a camper van and awning. The site is very large spread over 5 fields - very informal and you just pitch where you like, taking as much space as you need, and the owner catches up with you on her evening rounds.

The site has clean toilets and showers and they are well maintained and enough capacity at most points of the day.

Camping at its very best - simple and relaxed!

Site is in a great location for exploring most of Cornwall - we will be back next year for sure.

Just returned from another fabulous 12 day stay at this fantastic site (3rd visit). The site has been extended this year to cover 5 large fields, initially we had concerns over this with regards to the facilities but these concerns were soon laid to rest when Lisa, the owner, explained that they only were accepting the same amounts of units and they just wanted people to have more space to enjoy. This was reinforced when during our stay the site was closed to new visitors unless booked as they were deemed full which goes to show the owners are more concerned with campers comfort and enjoyment than money grabbing as there was still huge amounts of space.

The facilities had been extended since my last visit with toilet and shower facilities situated in the first field. Considering this site is only open for two months the facilities are far superior to many sites that are open all year. The toilets have wash basins with mirrors above and a constant supply of toilet roll and hand soap. The showers have a constant supply of hot water and have plenty of space for changing. I never had to queue for either and both were always clean.

There are no rules as such on this sight with regards to pitching and behaviour apart from mutual respect and common sense which seems to work well. Family groups are able to pitch together and this is common practice and makes for a great camping experience. In fact Lisa was camping with her son and friends in the same field we were during our stay. There is plenty of space for children and adults a like to play, we spent many hours remembering how to fly a kite and throw a ball!

During our stay we were treated to a fabulous air show from the nearby naval base along with ariel displays by buzzards and other birds. Owls could be heard at night too whilst we sat around our camp fires. There have never been any times when noise after dark has disturbed us with most people being quiet after 10:30.

The site is a short walk from Porthleven and Helston and from really great National Trust walks around the Penrose Estate and Loe Bar. It is situated so that days out exploring Cornwall is very easy.

All in all again a fantastic stay at this gem of a site, all for £5 per adult per night which is amazing. Can't wait to return and will stay no where else in Cornwall. Only wish is that Lisa and Martin would consider opening during other times of the year Easter for example, but the cows do need to get out in the fields I guess sometime!

We spent 4 nights here; it was windy because of its coastal position but that was OK. The site is a couple of large fields with basic but clean toilets (with washbasins and mirrors, much appreciated!)and showers, including a wetsuit/dog shower. There are sinks with hot and cold water for dishwashing too and you can have a real fire; all this for £10 a night in August! The site is part of a National Trust estate so we enjoyed walks down to Loe Bar, Porthleven and the teashop in the estate. It's a short walk from Porthleven and not far from Helston so ideal for a family break. The only downside was the bumpy track from the road to the site but at least that slowed down the traffic!Oh, and it's great for watching jets from RNAS Culdrose flying over. The warden came round to collect fees but if she missed you there was an honesty box. And you could put your freezer blocks in the freezer in a barn and even charge up your phone at no extra cost. Definitely recommending this site!

Wonderful spot for relatively simple camping. Wide open fields with hedges for shelter and walks down to the coast, Porthleven is about a 10 minute easy walk - beach - crystal clear water, shops - basics, gifts, clothing, pasties, pubs - The Ship were very welcoming & a good selection of beers, restaurants - pizza, bistros, seafood - lovely place. Walk in the other direction to The Helzephron for good food & a warm welcome for you and your dog. We even managed to see the Culdrose Air Day - excellent view as the planes approached & departed.

This campsite was an absolute joy - lovely clean showers & loos, hot water was plentiful and the washer-uppers were happy with the sinks & hot water supply too!

Owners very friendly & the whole place had a relaxed feel.

We were lucky with the weather, just one wet evening but there is so much to do in the area - get your waterproofs on and get out. We will definitely return.

Child friendly - yes - plenty of space to run and play and a beach nearby, just check where you swim before you go in.

We stayed here as a family group, including two young children and a dog, at the end of July. This is a great site for proper camping! There is no electric hook up, although camper vans and caravans are welcome, and the shower/ toilet block is fairly basic. However it does have plenty of simple showers and toilet/washrooms (queues at peak times of course, but that's to be expected) and there was always plenty of hot water. The facilities were always very clean and toilets always included toilet roll. As well as an outside shower, there are four outside sinks for washing up and plenty of bins for rubbish, located away from tents.

The site is very large, several fields, but as people tended to camp around the edges of the (mostly level) fields, there always was sense of space and plenty of room for dogs and kids to play.

The site really comes into its own with its laid back approach to everything apart from the essentials above. Precious little in the way of rules and regulations, very welcoming owners, pitch where you want and no limits on pitch size, dogs are welcomed and most were off leads most of the time and yet there were no problems with dogs roaming and messing the space and everyone was very relaxed about them. Camp fires are allowed, most people did have fires, but respected the space and cleared up before they left. It's an interesting approach to have so few rules and seemed to lead to everyone taking responsibility and a really relaxing atmosphere. The price is very very good value for money, I don't think I've found a better price for such a nice site anywhere in the south west.

The site is close to Porthleven (10 minute walk) which has a nice beach, which dogs are allowed on beyond the patrolled area, and lots of shops, pubs and restaurants. Lovely little harbour town. The Lizard overall is lovely and has many different areas that kept us busy for (admittedly a sunny) week.

All in all a great site if you like a relaxed holiday without lots of noisy, expensive attractions, and are happy with basic campsite facilities. We will certainly return to it in the future and would highly recommend if this is the sort of camping experience you enjoy.

Well what can we say? This is a wonderful site! VERY friendly owners who seemed to visit the site a few times a day but you never felt they were intrusive. They had 5 fields open when we stayed, and we were one of two campers in a massive field with uninterrupted views of the sea and Porthleven coast live and the coast line of The Lizard in the other direction. OK if you are in the bottom fields it is a bit of trek to get the many toilets and showers (free!) but we enjoy the tranquillity and privacy it gave us. Only 10 minutes walk into Porthleven which in itself is a lovely working harbour with a real community feel. All in all we appreciated not being ripped off in this glorious campsite and we congratulate the owners Lisa and Martin.

The facilities have been well covered here so I won't repeat that again. Fantastic position, I was there walking the South West Coast path, could access that directly from the campsite and a nice walk down to Porthleven. My only complaint would be that the yob element arrived, a group of 4 youths in 3 go-faster hatchbacks who pitched way too close to me, came back from the pub very late and made a dreadful noise until 1am, talking and starting up car engines. I'm afraid if campsites allow same-sex groups this is going to happen, there was no vetting whatsoever of arrivals and not everyone used their commonsense about where they pitched. Think the site really should consider not accepting same-sex groups if they want to attract families/couples and people who respect other campers. Some people are not campers, they are just looking for a cheap place to sleep for a few nights while they are out on the beer. I would probably go back there simply because of it's location but find a corner where hopefully the yob element won't set up next to me!

Just spent nine nights at this campsite. Owners (and dog) very friendly and helpful. So nice to be able to pitch where you want. Showers and toilets are kept spotless and there are plenty of them. Very useful being able to freeze blocks. £5 per person per night which is excellent value. No charge for dogs. Lovely walk into Porthleven where there is a Costcutter that closes at 9pm and a convenience store (which was open after 9pm in the evening). Helston has a Lidl, Sainsburys and Tesco's. There is also a house opposite the lake before the roundabout into Helston that sells free range eggs and local gardeners' produce, which we used a few times. You can get free wi-fi at Tesco's with your club card.

The only downside for us was that it can be very windy at times because of where it is situated but obviously nothing the owners can do about that!

Overall, wouldn't want them to change a thing.
