I stayed with a friend at this campsite during the first week in September. This was on recommendation and I could see why. It's a lovely big site, tents only. The pitches aren't marked so you get plenty of space and the management does not object to groups. It's flat and there are a couple of small lakes for fishing. There are a large number of beautiful trees. The facilities are a bit basic and the main block is a long walk from one end of the site. However, the owners told us before we left that they were planning to have a new block installed in the New Year closer to that end. You can have a barbecue on your pitch and buy the wood on site. Young children looked happy, scampering about and looking for frogs. You can walk out to the Stodmarsh Nature Reserve from the site. We had a very good meal in the Gate Inn in Chislet. You can drive or walk there about half an hour across fields. Although the site is only about five miles from Canterbury it feels perfectly rural. All in all I would highly recommend this site to both families and child-free adults.

Just as per our last visit, Nethergong did not disappoint. Christine and Jed make everyone feel welcome and make you feel they enjoy talking to you. Our children love the wooded area and only return to the tent when they are hungry. It is great to know they are not far away and they enjoy their regular trips to the shop for ice creams and sweets to break up their woodland play. We looked at the new Bell tent and cabin next to the Gypsy caravan while we were there. We were impressed with both and have booked the Bell Tent for next year. Only one problem with Nethergong, we compare all other sites to it and none match up!

This is my favourite campsite. It has the right balance between essential facilities and good, old fashioned camping for the fun of it. There are toilets and showers, which are regularly cleaned, but you never forget that you are actually shacking up in a field. I like that.
I like the one outdoor shower which has sides but no roof. Don't worry, the rest are indoors and have plentiful hot water. I like free showers, plug sockets for hair dryers, soap, hand washing towels and washing up liquid provided. It's friendly. I like not having electric hook up, which means no TVs or annoying gadget addicts next door. No caravans either :) I love being able to have a fire pit at night, going to feed the carp in the lake, catching frogs with a little net and bumbling up through the fields to the local riverside pub for a few too many pints of Thatchers. I like the children being able to do as they please as long as they don't wreck the trees or annoy other campers. They can explore, climb, fish, frog and collect fallen kindling as well as all the stuff to do at the nearby beaches. I love the fact that there is a large poly tunnel for when it's raining. If the kids get bored in the tent, they can play board games and Christine organises impromptu tea parties for soggy campers. With proper china cups! I love the views, the countryside and being close to beautiful towns and villages such as Whitstable, Canterbury, Sandwich and Deal.
I can understand why Jed, Christine and their family adore this place. They are wonderful hosts who are happy to sit back and let you relax without bombarding you with rules and regulations. There are no lines on the floor for you to put your car and tent between or neatly trimmed hedges in neat little rows. Hallelujah!
Luckily, this site seems to attract people who just want to chill rather than party all night. That said, there are usually hangovers wryly discussed at the washing up sinks most days. Must be the Thatchers.
Unless you are a glamper that needs to be entertained every minute of the day, you will love this site. A real little gem.

Love this campsite! It zoomed to the top of our favourites list immediately. The owners are so welcoming and walk you around the site discussing the pros and cons of all pitches. Lots of different areas to camp, in woods, near lake or main field to name but a few. We have 1son aged 5 and so welcomed an area where other children were to play football or sports. Wood is driven round to your tent for camp fires along with a fire pit. Toilets and showers were clean and ver adequate and some were new. Highlight for my son was the fishing lake. Every morning meet the owners by the lake to feed the fish and then my son sat for hours with a plain old kids fishing net regularly catching little fish. Site was full but there was a lot of lovely open space around.
Lovely walk easily following the directions given to a great pub on the river bank watching the boats.
Shop was stocked with all you might need or have forgotten. Veggies on offer to take home too was a nice touch.
We had a superb weekend. Can't wait to go back but it is often fully booked, so book early to avoid disappointment.
Oh and the rope/tyre swings were a hit!

This has to be the most idyllic campsite in the country. The owners make you feel so welcome and cherished; from the guided tour to help you choose where to pitch when you arrive, through the 10am fish feeding and egg collection, and the owner appearing with a wheelbarrow of woodchip so you don't have a soggy muddy tent entrance after some heavy rain, to selling you a box of delicious veggies to take home.
I've never stayed anywhere that has so much space when it's apparently fully booked. They certainly don't squeeze people in. You get the impression that they love their land, and love sharing it with their camping visitors far more than it just being for profit. We pitched next to the (very noisy!) Frog Pond- my son decided that the frogs were singing their tadpoles lullabies- at the edge of a (sometimes) sunny field, in front of a woody bit. Quite perfect.
Facilities- toilets and showers perfectly adequate. Washing up area, etc. Always had plenty of hot water. Loved sheltering from the rain in the polytunnel and playing bird bingo. Fabulous to have a campfire. Enjoyed exploring the local beaches, and Canterbury. But mostly- just loved the welcome, and the space, and the sounds of wildlife all around.

I led a group of young boys on a camping expedition as a warm-up to the boys starting their DofE award. We hiked for about 7 miles along the Saxon Shore Way from Reculver to the campsite. The camp site is superbly located just off the Saxon Shore Way. We were warmly greeted by the owner and the boys elected to make camp in the woods. There was plenty of space and no near neighbours to annoy! The boys particularly liked the camp fire, which was not only allowed, but provided at a very modest charge. The site had everything that we needed and the shop had all of the ingredients for a fried breakfast the following morning. We thoroughly enjoyed the overnight stay and no doubt, I will be asked to repeat the experience.

Very lovely little site. We picked a lovely spot and we had a fire. We needed it, we were too cold outside the tent. Didn't stop us having fun, far from it. Our 2 boys were age 7 and 4, we camped with another family with kids a similar age. The campsite was lovely and safe. Our kids could explore not too far from tent, in a tree den area and the play ground. It was lovely. A giant Easter bunny came round the site, followed by all the excited kids. We had Easter egg hunts by torchlight. We had taken fishing stuff to fish in the pond but the kids were fully occupied exploring the walks and campsite and toasting marshmallows.
We were close enough to visit Margate beach and the cold didn't stop the kids getting in the sea.
We only stayed 2 nights having planned 3 but we were a bit too cold for a 3rd night outside round the fire.
Very friendly and relaxed owners, thank you we had a great time.
We would go back, in fact we tried to in the Sumner but it was full. Hopefully another time.

Me and my husband spent one night here, arrived early sat morning, greeted warmly by the owner and he showed my husband around the campsite to find a pitch, he chatted and was very warm and friendly. We pitched by the duck pond / fishing lake, as my husband wanted to fish, very relaxing day sitting by the lake, I had a lovely slow walk around the campsite and found it to be lovely, the woods and the camping areas are great, there's a lot for children to do, places to play and hide etc. I found the little showmans cabin hidden in a secluded glade, its very pretty. A fire and some wood was delivered to our pitch in the afternoon ready for the evening which we enjoyed, thanks very much for a lovely relaxing stay, a little disappointed not to meet Christine this time but will make the effort to next time, definitely will stay longer and bring some friends / family with us. I found the porta loos to be ok, the showers, I didn't use but had a wash and used the loo, they were ok too, nothing special but adequate for us. All in all one of the best campsites we've stayed on and it just 'felt' right! would 100% visit again

Just Returned from our second visit to this site - always a good recommendation.
This is an unusual site as it has no set pitches, giving you freedom to set up where you like in a range of open and wooded areas.
The facilities are a little basic but there is plenty of hot water, a fridge, freezer and washing machine you don't need to pay for. Most importantly they are generally clean. Although they are unheated and on a cold September evening getting out of the shower is bracing.
The cost is a little high until you consider what is included. And the owners could not be more helpful or friendly.
The site is generally well kept, although at the end of the season after some heavy rain some of the paths were a bit muddy - as you would expect in the country. The ground was cracked with some very large fissures from the previous dry spell, some of these were ankle breaking in the dark and if I had one complaint they could have been filled in.
This is good site for exploring North Kent and has a relaxed atmosphere allowing camp fires.
The owners are great and the mix of facilities just right. Slightly better showers would help, but unless you are totally prim don't let this put you off.
Would certainly go back again.

Just returned home, this campsite is so relaxing. It is a beautiful location and the owners are so laid back, extremely helpful, very friendly and have created a perfect camping experience. When we arrived (we hadn't booked, just turned up) the owner was very welcoming and took us round showing us all the different places we could set up camp, so much to choose from, we decided to set up in the woods. It wasn't a case of 'You can set up here or over there' the choice was ours. The shower block has constant hot water, I noticed but didn't use a washing machine which appeared to be free! there are two fridge freezers, and plenty of room to do your washing up, again with plenty of hot water, washing up liquid and clothes also available. We initially paid for two nights and then stayed a further three only leaving because the weather changed, the owners were perfectly happy for us to do this. Would we recommend well must say a very definite YES!
