Yet another fun packed weekend break away with the caravan
We spent most of this weekend kayaking up and down the River Thames, going through the locks was a bit of a hair raising experience, but still great fun
As usual, I can't fault Sylvia and the rest of the gang who look after the running of this site.
Not long until we will be popping in on an overnight stay on our journey back from Wiltshire.
Every time we stay, no matter how long or short it is we have a great time
Starting to feel like our second home now, always great to see the usual friendly faces
Three showers in the ladies and loads of toilets and wash basins - there is an hour during the day when they are closed for cleaning (pretty much the norm with all sites)
Chemical waste area - washing up area - washing machines - all kept clean and tidy
There is a small playground area for the children, which seems to be very popular (our children are all grown up now so unable to let you know what the children think) always little ones playing there and making good use of the newly updated sand pit area
We have never had a bad experience here and have always been made to feel very welcome. Always someone about to give you a helping hand
Will be back very soon

Have now lost count how many times we have stayed on this site - we love it
If you are after a relaxing chill out break we find this ideal for us
Perfect for walking or cycling along the Thames or just sitting by the caravan and watch the boats sail by.
Plenty of wildlife around by the side of the Thames or on the Park - on this stay we had the pleasure of feeding the swans, ducks, canadian geese and a pair of Egyptian Geese and their fluffy babies
There are lots of pubs within easy walking distance of the campsite and I believe we have tried most of them now
Cycling into Staines is about a 30 minute amble taking in the sites as you go - plenty of cycle parking areas when you get there to lock your bikes up
Doesn't matter which way you walk up or down the Thames both ways you come to a lock where you can watch the boats and the locks being operated
We find the shower and toilet blocks to be ample for our needs - plenty of toilets and hand basins and three showers of a good size. The showers are push buttons ones to help save water
We have always found it to be a friendly site and not experienced any problems on any of our visits
Sylvia is a true gem that always makes us feel welcome each time we stay - all of the wardens/staff on site are friendly and there to help and make your stay a good one
As with all sites there are rules, such as cars are to be parked in a separate car park to the caravans and tents and no cycling on the site - it is obvious that these rules are due to the size of the site and the amount of caravans and tents around they are Health and Safety Rules - neither or these have proved a problem for us
There is an inside washing up area that also includes washing machines and tumble dryers. We've never had the need to use them
There is also a toilet waste area and many large wheelie bins for your rubbish
If you are after a local butchers we found a good one in nearby Shepperton while on one of our cycling trips of the area
There is a supermarket close by which we tend to do a trip to once we have set the van up on site
We will be back again for sure, in fact, our next visit will be in May in a few weeks time
A massive great big thank you to Sylvia and the rest of the crew for another great time - totally chilled out and back to work now, but looking forward to our next outing already

We booked this campsite on the strength of its website pics and its proximity to Hampton Court Palace. It cost us £52 for two nights. Directions were good and it was easy to find. Wardens were very helpful and friendly on the telephone. The actuality was quite different. Site is unkempt, washrooms dirty and bin area disgusting. No recycling of waste, no recycling at all that I could see. Rules for tourers yes, rules for members no. The wardens were friendly and it was ideally situated for our purpose but I wouldn't return. It is as somebody else mentioned far too reminiscent of Hi De Hi with facilities still stuck in that era too. Oh, and did I mention the dog poo? This is essentially a private camping club that opens its many gates to tourers to maintain a certain level of income but it is not a touring site as we know them. Wish we had paid the extra to use the nearby Caravan and Camping site.

Lovely setting beside the Thames, we only stayed for one night for a short break. The site was a bit noisy until 10. 30pm, which was a bit irritating. There's a nice pub 10 minutes walk away, which seemed to concentrate more on the diners, and a small shop.
Could do with a little shop on site, even if it's only the basics. Once pitched, we had to park our car in the car park, which was a little inconvenient. Having said that, Sylvia gave us a good welcome, and scooted round the park on her buggy to show us our pitch.
We'll be back- but will stock up on supplies before we arrive.

Have just come back from staying at this site. We booked it a few months ago and was told to be there for 7. 30 pm and if we were going to be late to ring and let them know. So we did and got a very frosty reply saying that we would have to pay her overtime! She then back tracked when I argued this. We arrived at 8. 30 pm and immediately were told off for speeding, we were only doing 8mph! Was directed to pitch and then was told all the site rules. No cycling on site, no ball games apart from in the adjacent park. No noise after 11pm which is normal but the worst one was that you couldn't park your car next to your tent. You had to park it in their car park which had no proper security. In all the years I have been camping I have never had to do this and really not happy about it.
Showers, clean but a pain to use. You had to hold the button ALL the time to use it, a bit useless when trying to wash yourself. Toilets, clean. Good park on site for kids and a bigger one in ajacent park. On the Sunday they had a volleyball game and then awards for it with someone shouting over a tannoy, annoying when you go away to relax! It all seemed to remind us of the old programme ' Hi - de - Hi' The site is more geared towards regular people that go there all the time and us tourers we there to make up the numbers. We will not be returning here again.

What a fantastic experience and made to feel totally welcome from the owner - so glad that we chose this site for our weekend by the Thames.
We had car trouble on the way to the site but managed to get there only a little later than expected. We found the warden straight away and checked in with no problems, explained to her that we had car trouble and may need to be recovered if the car couldn't be fixed, but still wanted to stay for the weekend. We pitched up and settled in within an hour or so. We were very lucky and got a pitch where we could open the curtains in the morning and sit and watch the boats sail by. Very relaxing indeed
Being without transport for the weekend proved no problem at all as we were quite happy to use our legs and go exploring along the river. Much to see and many pubs/restaurants on the way. Site is situated in the middle of two locks
If you are keen at fishing and have the correct licence then you will love this as there are many places along the river to sit and fish for hours on end
Children and adults can learn how to canoe on the river - classes were held on site (new this year) which did prove very popular and you need to get there by 9am to make sure you get a canoe.
Site is not far from Thorpe Park or Chessington so, so long as you have the transport then they are great places to entertain children.
Toilet/shower block is in the middle of the field along with play area for the under 12's with permanent large tents all around it - the outside edge of the field is used for the tourers/electric hook ups.
We found the toilets and shower blocks to be kept clean and were surprised on how large each shower cubicle was - there are only three showers for each sex, but we never found this a problem as we are early risers, so tended to be the first in there
The on site warden can always be seen whizzing about in her little cart on hand to deal with any problems (not that we had any)
There are rules on the campsite, which are only to be expected - there is no cycling on the campsite at all, but to be fare with the amount of tents and guy ropes about it wouldn't be a good idea anyway. You only have to push your bike out of the grounds and you are off! Plenty of safe cycling away from the main roads
Cars are not allowed be be kept next to your caravan, which we have not been used to, but didn't find to be a problem as they provide a safe carpark at the end of the field that is fenced in and is only for people using the site.
At the end of our weekend we did have to get the car recovered as it could not be fixed without going into a garage - the warden was a great help with this and was a real trouper - even with no transport we had a most enjoyable weekend and are going back again for another weekend this month once the car is fixed so we can explore further afield.
We were very surprised to see some recent negative reviews on this site as we had such a great time - holidays are what you make them and it goes to show that if we still managed to have a fantastic relaxing weekend with the troubles we had then it can't possibly be all that bad - we are saving this site as one that will become a regular one for our travels
We thank everyone at Laleham for making our break so enjoyable - you all do a great job and we will see you all again soon

I would agree with Kim Hart's review. The site was clean but on arrival it did seem the rules were laid down in a very formal way. 'I see you have brought your bikes - you are not allowed to ride them around here'.
The gate locking at 10pm was a problem as you could not access the car park without going through the site. We went out in the evening then had to carry sleeping children from the main road and go back and park - not ideal.
There was a distinct us and them atmosphere as most of the site is owned by people using the permanent tents. Back to the rules - no noise after 1130pm, good. Apart from the Friday night when the locals ran a very loud disco, doors open wide, youths shouting outside. It was turned down, slightly at midnight but still not good.
The toilets closed for cleaning, which is fine, but when the disabled one is suggested as the alternative is equally fine until it is blocked. Then what do you do?

We choose Laleham as it was a good price for London, we visited Chessington (30mins. Away). Camp site has mainly pre-erected tents for families, not ideal for caravans, small area for tents, but enough room.
Very pleased with facilities, showers lovely and clean, plenty of power points, and a wash up area with washers and dryers.
Location right beside Thames, nice area, along Heathrow flight path, so avoid if you don't like planes. Look out for flock of green parakeets every morning.
Plenty of parking, nice walks, overall a good stay. I would stay again.

Visited Laleham Camping club for 11 nights late May/June 2012.
The site is basically a field full of semi permanent tents, with a strip around the outside where there's room for caravans.
We choose to be down the right hand side of the site so not to be next to the road/river, and to take advantage of the evening sun (which is obscured by trees if you pitch river side).
However, being pitched at this side of the site meant beyond the fence was the local park's car park, and there was some slightly dodgy(!) goings on in the car park late at night, headlights flashing and interior lights on if you know what I mean. Not nice when you're not far away in your caravan - Not that this is anything to do with the site, but people need to know.
Despite that, the site is very nice, and has a good family feel to it. We were there the week prior and over the jubilee weekend, and the events put on by the committee looked like fun (pie n mash with liquor suppers, games, etc).
As others have said I think there's a fair few people semi-permanently own their tents, and so there's large groups of people who know each other. And as others have also said it seems the noise rules don't apply to this lot. I had no objections to this on the jubilee weekend, as its a one off, but other nights the noise did carry on quite late. We weren't bothered in our van, but others in tents might be. It seemed the regulars and non regulars have different sets of rules.
The loos and showers were good, and most of the time clean and available. There's plenty of loos and three showers in the gents. The showers were the push button type, and apart from one day there was plenty of hot water.
Take a tube to fill your water butt as the taps are quite high, and be prepared to parade your cassette loo in front of the kids that seem to want to hang around at the back of the shower building, where you've to lug your cassette embarrassingly.
The aircraft noise didn't really bother us. Whichever direction they leave from Heathrow they tend to go over the site, but I don't mind as I am a bit of a plane nerd. There's also constant noise from the motorway, but its not that loud that its disturbing.
So the site I'd give 4 out of 5, mostly nice, decent location, near to Chertsey and Staines for good trains to London, nice walks by the river to pubs (about 20 mins walk), and mostly nice wardens (Sylvia on her scooter seemed nice!) The pitch I had and the resulting unsavoury goings on in the car park, I'm afraid 2 out of 5.

We stayed for one night only on a site with a terrific location right by the Thames.
Good points: location for our purposes, lovely flat green grass for a tent, friendly neighbours, excellent, clean facilities: shower, loos etc.
Not so great: very hard to put into words without sounding picky - friendly enough but not welcoming, explanation of rules (all completely understandable) somehow 'more than necessary' - perhaps they have had problems - a hard to put your finger on 'them and us' atmosphere,
Cost is extremely high. Very noisy site from nearby roads (M25 etc) and planes (Heathrow) - noise not quite so obvious in the day, but at night very much so.
Not being able to park next to tent was OK as can do so whilst unloading and setting up camp. The problem is with using your car thereafter. Reaching site carpark is via a road through the camping area so naturally enough this is not allowed after 10pm. If you go out at night (carpark exits straight onto the public road so you can leave at any time) this is a problem on your return because of the one way system. T
Here are a few parking places just outside but we were told it was unlikely there would be any space late at night (there wasn't). There is a large pay and display carpark also just outside which is free overnight.
The problem comes in the morning, the pay and display carpark starts charging at 7am but the site carpark is not open till 8am. It only costs 50p for the hour. How to say its a shame this problem has never been solved without sounding picky?
No kitchen facilities for campers - most all we go to have at least a kettle and a microwave, often a fridge - family we made friends with who were on a cycling holiday agreed this is not unusual and would be most welcome.
In conclusion, the site is set up for members and visitors needs are not so important - perhaps naturally enough, but the cost to stay is extremely high - £12 per person - but then there is no other camping options nearby.
A short stay would be OK, but we would suggest checking out alternatives if you have any.
