What a nice site, well located for our touring of North Devon. Charles the owner is very helpful, even offering to pull our van up the site and into its slot. The facilities are not the newest but very clean and servicable, if you are thinking they are old look like storage cupboards rather than showers ect and you have just emptied your chemical loo you are at the wrong end of the site ! These are the farm facilities, there is a newish block with everything you need at the far end of the site including a freezer and drying/washing room. Would we return, most definitely its a little gem.

Great little site. Superb South facing views of North Devon countryside. Very laid back and relaxing. Charles the owner is brilliant, very welcoming and accommodating.
Nice clean facilities block, although the men's showers were a little on the weak and lukewarm side, with no adjustment. My wife said the ladies were nice and hot though.
Pitches are generally flat. We stayed at the top of the field, a very gentle downward slope, so Charles provided some chocks for my brother in law's camper van. There are hardstand pitches lower down the field too. It was not busy when we were there, but the pitch sizes are very generous so it wouldn't feel cramped even if full up. Would definitely stay again.

Visited late May Bank holiday for 3 nights. The site was fairly quiet and you could basically choose where you wanted to pitch. The site does has a slight slope.
The toilet block was clean and was nice to have everything in one block. Our only complaint would be the lack of hot water. Considering how quiet the site was it was surprising that the water was on the cool side in the mornings. Not sure how it would stand up when the site is busy.

Excellent friendly and clean site which I would not hesitate to recommend. Site was very easy to find when following the directions given and we were made very welcome on arrival. We found the owners very helpful and approachable. A good information board in the toilet/shower/ washing up area giving you ideas of places to visit and pubs/restaurants near to the site. My only negative comment would be regarding the showers which were at a fixed height of approx 6'6 inches which meant showers were not as pleasant as they could be for my children especially when washing hair. Despite this we do plan on returning to the site again.

We loved this campsite. The views are spectacular and space between pitches is ample. We had a very warm welcome from the owner, Charles, who was very friendly and sociable throughout our stay. The toilet block is good with adequate showers and toilets as well as the use of a washing machine and separate drier. The walk into Barnstaple takes about 25 minutes down a lovely quiet country lane. Eggs from Charles' hens were very tasty. We will certainly hope to stay again in the future.

Really nice owners who gave us a friendly greeting and were more than happy to help regarding directions to town etc. The site has a great location with fantastic views. Facilities are basic and not the cleanest I've seen. No toilet roll on the last morning!.
Having said that, I would probably visit again but take our own portaloo!
Cheers again

Management response: Thank you for your kind words regarding the welcome you received here and the location and views.
We realise that you must have found our old toilet block by mistake which is indeed quite basic compared to the new block which usually attracts very positive comments.
We hope it didn't spoil your stay too much and hope you will indeed return and enjoy the new facilities next time." |

Lovely campsite. Lots of space between pitches and site is elevated so great views across the countryside. Really quiet at night, no road noise at all as well away from the main road. Really quiet in the morning too, it may just have been the other campers that weekend, but people didn't start moving about until well after 8. Really easy to find and close to Barnstaple. Quick drive into the town. We went cycling and hired bikes from tarka bikes, a lovely route past instow which has a beach and Bideford which is a lovely little town next to a river. Braunton is close by too and Croyde which has a gorgeous beach and is a short drive.
Toilet blocks lovely and clean, with a water point nearby. Free showers which is always a bonus and saves annoying searches for change. Hairdryer too. Really nice indoor washing up area with hot water which is a bonus for campers used to washing up under semi sheltered areas whilst trying to avoid the rain!
Owners really lovely, friendly and helpful. Made the effort to come around and say hello to everyone.
We had 2 children with us both 10 and they enjoyed the freedom of a very safe site, including a games room.
Highly recommended as a simple, clean, spacious campsite, without frills like a shop, but completely unnecessary anyway as the town is so close by.

Stayed here for four nights in June, 2 of us in a 6 man tent. We had requested a pitch in a certain location on our booking form and they were more than happy to oblige. On booking in we were shown our pitch and were even given some help in putting up the tent as the wind chose to blow rather hard just as we were erecting it!
Campsite was busy but not packed the first night but then the rest of the week there was only us and two other units.
Views from the pitch were incredible, unfortunately we had very strong winds the week we were there and the tent withstood these but it was a bit scary at times! But you cant have views like this without bearing the brunt of the weather.
Toilet and shower facilities were absolutely excellent, spotlessly clean at all times, lots of lovely hot water. Fridge/freezer provided for campers use was very handy to keep our things cold. Washing machine was provide but we didn't have the need to use it. Two washing up sinks, again always clean and tidy.
Site was very well located for what we wanted to do and we enjoyed our stay here

Just back from a fantastic stay at Brightlycott Barton. The site is peaceful and enjoys great views over countryside to Barnstaple in the valley below.
The amenities block was always clean despite of the poor weather for most of the week. There are plenty of hot showers, all free. There is also a free washing machine which was well used by everyone on the site and the dryer is only £1 for 30 mins. There is also a fridge freezer.
The playground consists of a swing frame and there is a playbarn with table tennis and tractors for the little ones. The main play facility is the huge field the children have to run around and play games in.
The pitches are level and large. But be warned, the ground on the bottom level is stony so take your rock pegs and a strong hammer. We were left with only 4 usable pegs. But the tent stayed put in high winds and the ground drained well in the rain.
This site is in a fantastic location for exploring everything North Devon has to offer. There is so much to do in the area and it is easy to access from the site which is not far off the A39. There is no shop on site but Barnstaple with its supermarkets is only a few minutes drive away.
Fresh free range eggs are available when the hens have laid enough. They are delicious!
The owner was also great and responded immediately to anything reported. Just a shame we had to leave. We will be back!

We spent 6 nights at this site. Having arrived late the owners allowed us to pitch up before paying and did not mind that we had a giant khyam tent for 2 people. Although we did not have a great deal to do with them I appreciated the clearly good relationship that I observed between the owners and other campers (presumably regulars) and found them friendly and helpful when we did come into contact.
The toilets and showers were always clean and well kept with no issues other than that I would have found a stool in the dry area of the shower cubicles useful. I also appreciated the hairdryer provided in the ladies. The fridge/freezer was brilliant as we only needed to do one shopping trip and the washing machine meant we could take mostly clean clothes home! The noticeboard and leaflets were also a bonus if you don't know the area.
The location is stunning and the view was spectacular 24/7. We both drove and cycled in the area - parking in Barnstaple is amazingly cheap if you find the right car park but other touristy areas were astronomical! Personally I was disappointed by the local pannier market which seemed overly tourist-orientated but my long-lasting love of Croyde and the surrounding areas was only increased by our bicycle explorations. For cycling/walking to Barnstaple I would advocate turning left out of the campsite and using the back road that brings you out next to the hospital rather than the A39. It is a fantastic hill to challenge yourself on!
Although not necessarily the closest site to local attractions for bikes(particularly north of Barnstaple), with access to the Tarka Trail and an OS map, it was more than adequate for our needs.
