We returned here for our main holiday in 2011 as we enjoyed it so much in 2010 - please see my review further down. Purpose of this review is to say that it is as good as last year and we really enjoyed our stay there - we will probably return there in 2012.
The location is excellent - or at least it was for us. We know the area well (generally visit once every two years - sometimes more frequently) we and like to do a variety of things whilst we're there - including the beach at Woolacombe and trips on to Exmoor. It was well placed for general exploration. It's close to Barnstaple (about 2-3 miles), but still feels very rural. The view across the valley is wonderful.
There is no shop and the owner has avoided the trappings of a commercial site, and this suited us as well. The price was excellent. The toilet block appears to have been added in the last 2 years, and we would describe the toilets and showers as adequate. They were generally clean, but occasionally suffered with excess water from the showers spreading across in to the cubicles.

We have just returned home from a visit to Brightlycott Barton. We spent 2 nights at the campsite and we thoroughly enjoyed the peace and tranquillity.
We found both the camp owners to be very friendly and helpful. The costs were very reasonable.
The Toilet block was very clean and this included the dishwashing room. Being situated on a hill, the views towards Barnstaple and beyond was breath taking.
Barnstaple was a short drive away and a very nice town it is as well. We will be returning there later in the year. Highly recommended

This was our second visit in 2010, having been for the June half-term too with some friends. We have NEVER returned to a campsite before so this tells you how pleased we were with the site. We still feel that we could spend at least another week exploring the area as there is so much to do and would certainly go again to this site.
We have two girls aged 11 and 9 and prefer small, quiet sites. Brightlycott Barton fitted the criteria perfectly, and as others have said, was well-drained in our rather wet week in August.
The views were great and the facilities were completely free (including the washing machine and tumble drier). My only criticism is that the loo roll kept running out.
Didn't notice road noise but did occasionally hear the bells from a nearby church faintly! Very serene.

We visited this very nice campsite in August 2010 and really enjoyed our stay. The site was very clean and tidy. The shower/toilet block was always kept up to the best possible standards. We stayed for 5 nights and had a very large pitch which was definitely big enough for our tent. I find it very hard to fault the campsite but in the morning the showers tend to be a bit cold and after having a shower there is nowhere to get changed. Its very peaceful at night and you can't hear a sound. I really enjoyed my stay here at Brightlycott Barton. And 150% recommend it!

We've just spent 8 nights at Brightlycott Barton. We are a family of four (two daughters aged 14 & 10). Our unit is an 8 berth Royal Atlanta tent, and on this occasion (our first visit to this site) we had a pitch with electric hook-up.
There are three tiers of pitches on the site - the largest is the highest, and slopes at the bottom edge. The middle and bottom tiers are about the same size and level, but the bottom tier does not have hook-ups. We were on the middle tier, and this was best for us. The pitch was large - 11m wide by about approx 13m - easily enough room for our tent, trailer, roofbox and car without feeling cramped or too close to adjacent units. The site itself is not huge - not sure how many units in total, but I don't think there were more than 30 (equally split between tents and caravans) - this was during the first week in August.
The wind can whip up at the site - we came back one day to find our new Vango windbreak had several bent poles. Although breezy, it wasn't windy all the time, but other reviewers have commented on the wind, so if visiting again we'd probably not risk the windbreak.
The location is excellent - or at least it was for us. We know the area well (generally visit once every two years - sometimes more frequently) we and like to do a variety of things whilst we're there - including the beach at Woolacombe and trips on to Exmoor. They were generally clean, but occasionally suffered with excess water from the showers spreading across in to the cubicles.
We would describe ourselves as fully equipped campers - as such we did not make use of the washing up facilities, so we can't comment on those. The site is not huge and there looked to be only one washing up sink, but I never saw a queue except once, on the weekend. Overall, we liked the site and it will probably be our first choice next time we visit North Devon.

We stayed on this lovely campsite over whitsun weekend and had a fabulous time. The field was well maintained and obviously has good drainage as it had rained the night before but grass was dry.The views were lovely over exmoor, though quite exposed to the wind.
the toilet and shower block was immaculately clean wih hot showers. The fridge / freezer in the block was very useful for ice packs etc. We would have used the fridge for a couple of items but annoyingly other campers had filled it up with bottles of lemonade, coke, tomato sauce etc!
My son loved the barn with the table tennis table, we were playing till it was dark.
We spent 2 days cycling the Tarka Trail, very flat with lots of refreshment stops on route, non alcoholic and alcoholic also lots of lovely beaches in the vicinity.
Altogether I can highly recommend this site if you are looking for a quiet site with plenty of open space for children to run around.

This was our first time visiting this site, and we would definitely go back.
The location is great, just a few minutes drive out of Barnstaple which has supermarkets, shops, pubs etc. It's an ideal base for exploring North Devon.
The campsite is large and wasn't very busy at all, but we only stayed for one night on a Sunday evening, on route to somewhere else.
The toilet block is spacious and clean, though it would benefit from some electric hand dryers. The showers are plenty warm enough and the cubicles a decent size.
The owner is very pleasant and can be called upon to recommend a decent pub. The pricing was excellent too.

We visited this site for 5 nights in our caravan, we were lucky as someone had left early giving us the last pitch for the bank holiday weekend.
The views of the rolling north Devon countryside were lovely, that's when we saw them as we had a lot of rain and drizzle, the choice is between a great view along the top of the hill and suffer the winds or go lower down and sacrifice the view a little for lesser winds.
The owner of the site was very helpful and would be seen going around as soon as anyone had left to pick up any stray litter, all in all a very tidy site.
Because of its location on a grassy hill it did get muddy with some people trying to drive their cars up the grassy hill instead of the gravelled hill at the side of the entrance created to avoid the need to tear the field up !
The children's playground is very basic with a couple of swings including one for babies. There is however plenty of space in the middle of the field for children to run about in.There is also a games room which has table tennis and basketball hoop.
The new shower block is both clean and spacious with good sized wash basins.
Water, waste and CDP, this is my main criticism of the site, there are 2 points for water, one by the entrance and one by the shower block, no other taps around the site. Grey water and CDP are both by the entrance, again, a good walk for some if carrying a porta potti to empty, the CDP actually happened to be a toilet in the ladies by the entrance and the grey water emptying point was a drain outside this building at the bottom of the steps/steep slope, not good when your fighting a 45 litre waste hog against gravity !
The location makes it great for exploring north devon including Woolacoombe, ilfracoombe, westward Ho, croyde, barnstaple and bideford.
All in all a satisfying site that we would visit again

Really loved this site! Beautiful views across the Barnstaple area. Slight road noise but we live right by Heathrow Airport so we weren't too bothered. Only a few minutes drive into town. Well situated for local beaches. Surprisingly quiet for mid August. Amazing shower block/utility area! (We're fairly new to camping so we were very impressed!)Showers were cleaned daily - Charles, the owner was cleaning them when we arrived! Washing up area with 2 sinks and a washing machine! There is a fridge freezer but it did get a bit smelly! (I think someone may have left their food in there and forgotten to take it home). Theres also a hairdryer!
The site is great for kids. We have a 4 year old who loved the wooden swing/rope frame. Theres also a barn with tabletennis and basketball net.
Will be sure to visit again!

I think we chose the wettest week of the year - perhaps of this decade.
The site has a great location with lots of access to activities around the area. Although slightly exposed has as a result great views it is very well drained and even though there was so much rain it didn't get muddy. The grass is well kept and short and when we arrived the pitching areas were being cut.
The facilities are very good and new and I didn't have to wait atall to get a shower or wash dishes in the dish wash area. There is also a washing machine in the dishwash area for general use as well as a fridge and freezer you can use. We however took a few days to find the tumble drier which is in the games room. Well used as it was so wet. Charles is as his name says friendly and very helpful. I would visit again and would recommend it to anyone. There is also a play area with swings etc for those with children as well as plenty of area to play in the grassed area by the camping area. A very reasonable priced location with great views.
