We used this site as we were visiting friends in Barnstaple. I can only echo the other reviews posted.
The site boasts some amazing views ans a wealth of wildlife.
The owner, Mr Friend was very helpful and our pitch on the lower tier was perfectly level
Barnstaple and the area's other attractions were within easy reach. Barnstaple would have been in easy walking distance but there were no footpaths on the road. A car is essential.
The showers were clean and well presented
Good value for money. Peaceful site
We would definitely go back.

Just back from 2 nights at Brightlycott, we turned up un-booked due to family emergency, owner very helpful and happy to accommodate us at short notice.
We paid £17 per night for the van and 2 adults with EHU.
We were located on the lower tier, still got some nice views over the north Devon landscape (in between sheets of rain and low cloud).
Good location, close to major facilities in Barnstaple, (market, shops, cinema, hospital etc)
Amenity block was well appointed, 3 showers in each male and female, and plenty of toilets too. Hairdryer point in ladies section was a welcome treat.
Other facilities included washing machine (but no dryer that I could see) and a fridge freezer,
Other facilities at other end of campsite included cdp and waste/rubbish/recycling etc.
Lots of local information and leaflets and information on the bio-diversity across the farm
Lower tier wasn't draining well, some areas really quite wet, but to be expected with all the rain.
Showers could do with a plastic chair/seat of some sort to help with storage of clothes, place to sit whilst getting dressed etc.
We prefer less occupied sites with less facilities, so Brightlycott Barton was very different for us, but this was an emergency trip.
We would use the site again. All in all a nice site with good facilities.

Stopped here in sunny august (not), it has two tiers top and bottom. the bottom unfortunately was like a swamp and we had to buy wellies, so if it is wet pack them, drainage needs sorting, nice shower block although showers were never warm (mens), access could to with a bit of tarmac putting down as lots of pot holes. If you are just pulling up for the night, you will be ok, be beware bottom tier if you have a tent.

Just got back from a weeks stay on this site and although it was wet and windy we really enjoyed it.
The site is on the top of the hill and although we couldn't get up to the top level were we were suppose to be the view down to barnstaple was lovely, it was nice to see the views but also means you get the wind and rain full on so lots of guy ropes had to be put on awning.
The toilets and showers were clean and the showers were spacious and hot but they are push button (my husbands pet hate). The water tap is near the entrance to facilities block so was easy to get to, but the chemical disposal point was in a different place along with the waste water disposal point (near old facilities block) that you had to go down some steps to, so not so good if your not very fit or have health problems.
The owner was nice enough but we didn't chat much as he was busy running his farm. On the whole I would say this is a nice site and we will probably go back.

Lovely small site, well signposted from the main road. Friendly and helpful owner. Toilet block clean and plentiful, although could done
with hand dryers or paper towels instead of the one roller towel! Indoor washing up facilities, washing machine & fridge/freezer for campers use (excellent for your beer/wine!) also plenty of electric sockets.
Swing park and indoor games room with basketball net, table tennis etc. Easy access to some wonderful beaches and Barnstaple town.
Plenty of electric hook-ups. Reasonably priced.

We used this site as an overnight stop before heading back up north. Would use it agian if we return to Barnstaple.
Is just a 10 min drive from the town. We arrived much later than intended and found the way in the dark using my phone sat nav. We were able to easily locate a space with hook up. Site was well maintained, level and quiet.
The owners were pleasant and helpful both on the phone and face to face.
The price very good with the owner taking into account our late arrival and morning departure

We stayed here for just one night passing through the area. It is high on the hill overlooking Barnstaple and the views are amazing.
The site itself is tiered with the top two tiers for Caravans and large tents all with EHU and a bottom tier for small tents with no power.
The toilet block was spotless with several showers and toilets. The showers were warm but the water flow was disappointing and spray going in all directions but down onto me! There was an indoor washing up and laundry area together with a fridge for food and beer/wine and a freezer for recharging cool blocks.
The owner was very friendly and welcoming.
There is a small play area for the children with a few swings and a indoor play area with table tennis and basketball hoop.
The site has no footpaths for walking directly from the site so you would have to drive to explore the area but it is a good base from which to do this. Lovely spot but we would rather be closer to the coast and prefer not to get in car all the time when we want to go out.
Would liked to have seen basic provisions on site such as bread/milk/eggs given that it is a farm site but we were directed to a local petrol station!
Lovely site if you fancy a clean, peaceful and quiet 'base'.

We had an enjoyable 2 week stay here, despite some pretty grim weather. The smallish site is on a hill overlooking Barnstaple and has lovely views- especially if you are pitched at the top of the field.
There is a small park, and plenty of space for children to run around and play. There were also quite a lot of dogs running around too when we visited.
The facilities were good, plenty of clean toilets, water taps, waste disposal, showers that were variably hot, a washing up room, free washing machine and a fridge for campers to use. All kept in a nice clean condition.

Just back from a very wet weekend, spoiled by our tent. The site is nice location with amazing views over Barnstaple, small site although run down. The toilet block is not very nice, it was not cleaned all weekend and kept running out of loo paper.
The was one soap and a shared towel (not very hygienic so we never used it). The showers were cold whatever time of day used which was horrible. The showers also run into the loos so dirty shower water over the loo floor. On the plus there is a free washing machine and also a free tumble drier. There is also a games rm, which we never went in.
The pitch was big, but completely waterlogged with all the rain we had - it needed drainage. If the weather was nice, our pitch would have been great - the most amazing views over Barnstaple.
There was a small play frame, never took a closer look.
No shop which is no big deal as big Tesco 10 mins in car away. There is another loo block which is like something from the dark ages and again dirty so never used!
Overall - location good, but dirty loos, no loo roll, no where to dry hands and cold showers mean we would not return unfortunately.

Having returned from an 11 night stay we feel it only right to leave an honest review.
We were 2 adults, 1 child and a dog.
Cost: £22. 00 per night with EHU.
Overview:
A quiet location with stunning views (when the weather permits). Charles is not intrusive in the least and when engaged in conversation is a very amiable, warm soul who is a pleasure to chat with. He also loves mowing the grass!
So now the positives and negatives.
Negatives:
* The biggest negative we feel is the location of the grey water and chemical disposal facilities. Although we are relatively fit and only in our late 30's/ early 40's, these facilities are located down several steps on a slope and particularly when the ground is wet, are not easily accessible and are slippery. We took to emptying our waste water daily so that the weight of the water hog was more manageable and would not runaway with us.
* Although the ablutions block is well equipped, clean and has everything you could need of a site and Charles has clearly spent time and money on providing these relatively new facilities; it is a great shame that the showers (in the ladies anyway) allow such a large overflow of water that will extend across the floor reaching all the way to last lavatory cubicle. There is a mop and bucket available which I used after every shower, sadly it seemed that it was not something that everyone was willing to do. Hence I found Charles on numerous occasions at all hours (midnight at times) mopping out.
* Particularly dark at night- no lighting except that around the EHU's, so a torch is a must if venturing out for the loo or dog walk.
* Final negative- Due to such heavy persistent rain for 2/3 days, the pitch that we had became so water logged that the groundsheet (breathable type) in the awning allowed the ground to become like a muddy footbath. The drainage was not great on the level of the field that we were pitched on.
Positives:
* Fantastic sized pitches with stunning views.
* This was peak season and bearing that in mind, the site never felt overcrowded or excessively rowdy.
* Relatively easy access to the site.
* The dishwash area also contained a Fridge Freezer and a washing machine that was available for use Free of Charge! Just need your wash powder.
* A barn that has a table tennis table and other things in to keep the kids occupied and is out of the way of the pitches.
* Great number of local attraction and information leaflets in the rack on the wall of the ablutions block.
Overall:
We hope that our review doesn't put anyone off as despite the negative comments, we hope that they are constructive and useful. If we were to venture this way again, we would be more than willing to consider returning to BrightlyCott Barton.
As far as a host goes, Charles is a pleasure and a very likeable, clearly hardworking chap. What he doesn't know about Cattle Farming isn't worth knowing!
This is not a site to visit if you want clubhouses and on site entertainment. However, if you can appreciate the beautiful views, enjoy what the area has to offer and manage the steps to the waste water facilities then this is one to consider!
