Thank god we are home and can get cleaned up. In all our years we have been caravanning this is without doubt the dirtiest site with have ever ever been on.

I truly feel sorry for the people who work here, they must be so embarrassed. Looking back at old reviews it seems they make a habit of packing 'em in at the bank holiday.

If you fancy spending the bank holiday packed in a field a couple of feet away from each of your neighbours with no power for 5 hours when you arrive and the toilets from hell then this is the place for you.

I have never ever ever seen an Elson point like it - in clear view of the children playing there is a plastic tank with an open top that you have to lean over and pour in you slop-there is you know what all over the surface - it is disgusting.

The entrance to the site is very very dangerous being very a narrow gate shared by all vehicles on site as well as herds of toddlers etc wobbling around on their bikes.

While waiting to pass safely through this gate at least you are entertained by watching all the men lined up at the urinals taking a leek! Weird.

In short what there is at this site rarely works and when it does you do not want to use it because it is filthy.

Some nice trees and Newark is pleasant.

Visited with my family in our caravan and friends in their tent on August bank holiday. This was the biggest site I had camped on as we usually use CL sites.

Only one man allocating pitches, we were given no 30 which was on the edge so no fellow campers on all sides.

The water was just a tap and quite high, had to aim our pipe into aqua roll. Toilets were OK, very muddy on the floor and no toilet roll towards the end of the night.

Singers on both Saturday and Sunday afternoons and night time, we went to the bar area on Sunday night, beer wagon quite expensive.

Did not go into hall but was free. The grounds are beautiful. The playgrounds was too small for my boys (10 & 8).

Although they did play tennis and went around the maze.

Only minutes from Newark.

We stayed at Kelham Hall for 2 nights in June

The camping field is large and flat, most of the units were pitched round the edge of the field under trees, leaving a large playing area in the middle. Other units were pitched in a more wooded area, and were more secluded. From what I could see most campers were using electric hook up.

Positives - Flat pitch, plenty of room, fires allowed (bring your own fire pit and wood), use of the hall gardens, lovely play area, soft play and visits to the hall, pub opposite the hall was ok, food there good value, plenty of toilets.

Negatives - toilet block could've done with a more frequent clean, (particularly as it rained whilst we were there which meant mud in the showers), no freezer for refreezing blocks (though the warden said we could put ours in with the icecreams), music allowed - this is a pet hate of mine, I don't want to hear tinny music in the evenings, and finally the generator was a bit on the noisy side, though I managed to tune it out OK.

Newark is worth a visit - we tried to walk there along the trent valley way, but a farmer had grown crops over the waymarked path, and let other fields get so overgrown that we couldn't walk along the path. We got the bus on the way back, which stops right outside the hall.

Had a 2 night stay at Kelham Hall with other members of our family, (7 adults and 5 kids). Chose this site due to it's location as central for all us to meet up.

The location and grounds are lovely. We all enjoyed a walk by the river and a wander around the house. The kids liked the indoor play area (a bit small, but it is free). Outdoor play areas were also good.

This would be a fantastic site if it just had a bit of money spent on basic facilities. The toilets were pretty poor. There were several toilet seats missing in the ladies. The showers did not drain very well and we had to come out of the shower cubicle to dry off so we weren't standing in a puddle.

When we asked the man at check in for the washing up facilities, we were directed behind the hut. We were amazed to find the facilities consisted of 4 breeze blocks on the floor with a hot and cold tap (no sink)! It was back breaking to wash up at a low level. There was also no drain so we had to throw the dirty washing up water into the bushes. But at least the water was hot.

Overall a lovely site if you don't mind slumming it a bit in the toilets and don't need to do much washing up.

We would return to this site for a weekend but we couldn't go for a week in a tent with no washing up facilities. If sinks were installed and the toilets improved, this would be a site we would consider visiting regularly.

We visited this site on a bank holiday weekend. And like the many hundreds of others soon realised that the site was simply not geared up for the many visitors staying.

There are not enough water taps and the pressure at the taps means it takes an age to fill up a small bottle. I think there was a max of four taps for about 400 pitches. The handful (think there are five gents) of toilets got blocked on Sunday morning. The showers simply did not work. On the field we stayed the grey water recycle tank was full. The Epson disposal was full and raw sewage was leaking out close to where children played. Sure it has a nice woodland walk, a beer lorry (that was also almost empty) and a reasonable playground for children. The issue is though the site just does not have the infrastructure to support the number of visitors. What ever you do, do not stay here on a busy weekend.

This site has the makings of being a great site beautiful location but that's where it stops. We went for the end of may bank holiday turned up on the Friday afternoon told to go to pitch 80, we made our way to a huge field called the events field and found our pitch with the help of Peter (good guy and helpful). Pitched up decent size pitches however they are packed in and by the end of Saturday there must have been 500 units on the field equating to approx 2000 people plus a multitude of dogs most where very well behaved.

This site does not have any rules its a complete free for all noise, shouting, screaming, partying, swearing til all hours at least 2am! I think this is due to the multitude of people allowed on site. The facilities aren't great and there are 2 washing up sinks for the whole site. Bloody awful we came home a day early as none of us had more than 3 hrs sleep a night. Very disappointed.

One good point was Peter the guy who showed everyone to their pitches, he worked tirelessly to get everyone in place and never seemed to have a break!

Fantastic Site, We have fell in love with Kelham Hall and will most definitely be coming back, the reception man is so friendly and helpful (well done you) We had a brilliant time here the maze the park the trail all of it was amazing our kids had a fab time playing tennis ( fee of £5 ) If hiring the equipment and exploring the Hall and indoor play area ( for the size of the place this could be better and bigger ) and they loved it in the maze, their is a fishing lake our friend's son was their all day he had a chilled time. Beautiful place overall, would like to see barriers on entrance as anyone could come on site and a better indoor play area, I have recommended to family and friends.

Just back from a 2 night stay at kelham hall, lovely large field to pitch our caravan on (pitch 80), our pitch was great last pitch with views of the hall and the open field.

Kelham hall is such a good setting next to the river treat and 10 mins drive from Newark on Trent.

The site was very busy on our visit but because of ample space didn't feel busy at all, the out side bar was a nice surpise to find on our first day whilst out walking around the site.

Toilet/shower block on site was basic but clean.

Site wardens 1 lady and 1 gentleman where very helpful on arrival and threw out the 2 night stay.

The local pub (the fox) is a short walk away across the grounds past the hall and across the road.

Very cheap food/drink served to a high standard and friendly staff.

We will be staying at kelham hall again

Returned from a 3 night stop. Had to pay for electric hook up although I didn't want it, this was the only way to be pitched next to family who were in a caravan and needed hook up. At least it gave us the option, some sites don't allow tents and caravans next to each other.

Lovely large site, children can explore and have a little freedom. Tree lined trials made a great little adventure. Outdoor play areas were small but very adequate, with seating available for the adults to watch the children.

Shower and changing area at the Hall were fine ( some handbasins in the shower area would be useful) however the portocabin toilets/showers were not so good, mainly due to no where to put your clothes, or toiletries. I got dressed in the shower cubicle which was tricky with a child present from a space point of view & getting clothes on dry. If you stepped out there was no privacy. Plenty of hot water, push button style shower. By the very nature of camping, floors will & do get wet and muddy in the portocabin, they were cleaned frequently and there was a mop available to clean up after yourself following a shower. I felt some fellow campers needed to be more courteous and mop the floor following their shower, leaving it as you would like to find it. Clearly the wardens cannot and should not be expected clean up after each person.

Only two sinks for washing up which isn't enough for the size of the site.

Someone else commented on free, frequent trailer rides. The children were very excited upon seeing the trailer and wanted to go on it but disappointingly during our 4 days Kelham Hall could not provide a trip and also said there may be a charge. I would've thought peak season, school holidays, would be the ideal time for having this operational.

There is a small indoor play area which the children really enjoyed. However this cannot be accessed when weddings are booked at the hall which was 2 out of the 4 days we were there. Not too much of a problem to us as the weather was kind and there's lots to occupy children outside.

Road noise is significant at night, even whilst using earplugs.

We were pitched on the main field and felt very hemed when others were pitched in adjacent pitches. Would be a lovely improvement to have some small privacy hedges between pitches and it would also improve the aesthetic's when visitors come down the drive to the hall.

The maize maze was fun for the children however expensive (£9 1 adult & 1 child). Would be nice if people camping got a reduced rate or the pass allowed you to go back in again on other days during your stay.

Ice creams a little expensive in the camp shop at £2. With the number of children there I'm sure sales would increase if the price were dropped a little. ( site we stayed on a fortnight prior was 50p for a small tub of scoop ice cream with sauce & sprinkles).

A freezer accessible 12 or 24 hours would be a great bonus to enable refreezing of freezer blocks.

Overall a great site for children, some improvements would make the site even better. We would return.

Just returned from a 3 night break on a electrical hook up pitch.

We were in a group of 3 tents, we enjoyed having a BBQ and visiting Kelham Hall, my husband enjoyed the fishing on site.

Kids loved the site 2 parks and plenty to explore.

It is just small drive to Newark. Which is a beautiful town.

The staff were very friendly and the beer wagon was an extra treat.

We will definitely be returning.

Would recommend.
