Where do I start!
It is a lovely campsite with lots of room for the kids to play and dogs to walk with lovely views of the house and surrounding countryside. When we arrived we where shown to the pitch and given an info pack and clear instructions on how to park. Unfortunately it took 4 hrs for the electric to be sorted out so most of our food started to defrost!
The electric hook up is a big problem with different areas of the site tripping out at random intervals.
The toilet block is not finished and the only toilets available was 2 toilets and 3 sinks and 4 showers! the site was full so they shipped in 6 porta toilets which helpful but not ideal when you have children.
Overall I got the feeling that the owners have never camped and don't understand what its like to be in a tent without a toilet and 3 kids. If they just sorted out the toilets and electrics it would be such a good site. If asked to come back again I would honestly say yes as its in such a lovely place with nice walks around the grounds.

Spent a night here on our way home from the Easter Weekend. When we arrived it was clear they had had a very busy weekend and there was a wedding taking place in the Hall. The bins were over flowing and there was no rolls in the loos which had obviously been used by the wedding guests as well, I expected that despite the busy weekend and 4 weddings this would have all been cleaned up by the time we got there at 3:30 pm ish on Monday, when the site was relatively quiet and was very thankful I was not there when they have 100 + pitches taken.
We decided that we did not need the hook-up and I was very pleased with this decision given that there was leads and junction boxes all over the site it was very temporary set up, when it tripped off the owner came out and moved a lot of the cables and boxes himself to get everyone back on. He also emptied some of the rubbish from the bin at this time.
The showers have a notice in them that says if the water goes cold leave for 15 mins and it will go warm again. We left them for 30min, 45min, 2hours but they were not warm again till the next morning and again were not very clean. We mentioned this to Jonathan the owner and he said he will look in to it.
So that is all the cons, now for the pros, lovely friendly staff and I feel that with time improvements will be made and it will be a fantastic site. The location is great, the grounds and the hall are free to look round and when there is no wedding, well worth a look the dome is amazing. Loads of space for the kids to run around, woods to explore in, indoor and outdoor play area. AND only £15 a night (without hook up) so a good price!
We will be back in August!

Staff were very friendly.
Toilet block was too far from site.
Showers were disappointing considering they were recently refurbished. 2 toilets for a site with 200 pitches. A a notice said if the shower ran cold do not attempt to press button for 15 minutes so we didn't risk it.
Power to the van kept going off for 10 minutes for some reason.
Lovely grounds and delightful walks
Nice site but expensive for what it has.

Just had a very relaxing weekend at Kelham Hall Camp Site. This site is suitable for all ages although it is a ideal family site. There's a indoor and out door children's playground. , woodland walk. Tennis court hire, Fishing a good cycling area as well. Access to the site I good from the main road to your pitch. No marked out pitches as yet, and we could decide were we wanted to go. The site is also dog friendly. The bus stop for newark is outside the gate as is the Fox Pub. Bus ride to Newark is 8 minutes. We did not eat out at the pub because the Sunday carvery. At the hall is delicious and very good value for money. You must try it if you stay at the site. Meals and snacks are also available every day and there is a bar also. Finally the owners and their efficient staff are very nice and we felt at home as soon as we arrived. On arrival they helped us to pitch up and after that we were left alone to enjoy our break. On our next visit to Kelham we will be taking our grand sons, they will love it in the wood. Thanks to every body at Kelham campsite. From Dennis. And Jane. Sheffield.

Used This site for a Get together of Poodle (& other dog) lovers for a fund raiser for Cancer, particularly Womb cancer as it is very under subscribed.
The site was brilliant, Gary, I assume he is the Grounds Keeper, could not have been more helpful.
We had 2 Caravans, 3 tents & a marquee to set up for the event & a fun dog show and he organised the electric as needed & set us all up in a really clear spot so we could do the Dog Show. My wife & our friend (both Cancer Survivors)were able to raise a fantastic 3 figure sum for Cancer Research thanks to all the help from the staff.
Toilets were basic but very clean, the site ground was hard (despite rain as we arrived) so pitch was firm and there is great fishing nearby for the hubbies who had been dragged along for the occasion. Didn't get a chance to try it myself but the word is the food is good & a great pub nearby Very Highly Commended Site.

We have just spent two nights at Kelham hall and as this was only our second camping trip we have come up with various things which we look for when we are there. I will try to keep it as brief as possible but give as much info as possible.
Price was 19. 50 per night inc electric hook up.
Pitch size very good. Plenty of space for our tent and car, I would of preferred for it to have been laid out or posts defining each plot though.
Ground quite level and not too many stones in ground.
Toilets and showers were in main building which sounds nice but were a bit of a walk and usable but when the new block is completed on the actual camping area would make it so much better.
Water didn't taste too good for drinking so we used bottled.
Washing up area, a lot of flys, water cold and no lighting so pretty rubbish really.
Disposal area fine and usable.
Lighting not great. Light on hut on field but nothing around the site and nothing to guide over to the toilets.
Warden great, Gary was very helpful and seemed to be the 24 hours a day when we were there, very hard working.
Shops 5 minute drive to Newark with all the main supermarkets.
Pub, bar in hall itself pricey and no draught but we had a nice drink in the lovely bar room. Local pub we didn't try but only probably a five minute walk.
Noise, set just off a main road which was quite noisy. We could hear traffic throughout the night. Maybe this would of not been as bad had we not been in a tent.
On site there was a nice walk, the ground and hall were stunning and a nice little park for our son to play. There was not too many people on site so the massive grassed area was a perfect place for us to play football on and no affect any others on site.
We also had the Sunday carvery in the hall which was very nice and would recommend this to all.
We also ordered a Chinese from Newark who delivered, and I met them at the entrance. It was great, I think it was called china city.
All in all this is not and was not designed to be a camp site. When the shower block is done on the field and washing up facilities are improved, a few more tweaks and this will be a great site. As long as you don't mind the road noise.

Just returned from a weekend away at kelham with friends also in a touring caravan. We had a lovely time but some definite negatives. In short I don't feel the site is as yet geared up for being a camping and caravan park.
Positives
Lovely friendly helpful staff, both at the hall and the groundsman?
Beautiful setting in the grounds of the hall.
Lots of space for the kids to play
Woodland walk, tennis courts and fishing. Small park.
Free reign to wander around the hall free of charge.
Nice Sunday lunch and rear garden to sit and have a drink from the bar or cafe (but you will have to find one of the few staff to serve you)
Close to home (for us anyway)
Negatives
Toilets and showers in the main hall outdated and in definite need of a revamp. When raised the staff said they were governed by the grade 1 listed status of the building, but surely there are some improvements that could be made without breaching the listed guidelines. They are also way too far from the camping area. We were ok as we had the caravan loo but if we had been in a Tent with the kids it would have been a major hassle. The web sites says new toilet block mid August but don't think this is now happening?.
Electric situation a joke. There are no individual power posts per plot, so the site consists of leads and adapters everywhere. There were only about a dozen units there when we stayed and the power was constantly tripping out at the main rcd unit which only the staff had access to. In all fairness he did a great job continually putting it back on, but it was hassle with the on/off situation and would question the safety aspect not only from all the leads everywhere but also various adapters etc
- It's a large grassed area but not secured access and does allow access direct onto the main a617 road, which is busy and does give some road noise but nothing major. Wouldn't however leave kids to wander freely.
All in all we still had a lovely weekend and also a nice meal at the fox pub nearby. Would return but not for a while and not until they upgraded the site and hopefully made the improvements planned for the hall too which will be great.

Great weekend camping here with friends, men were ok with cold showers but the ladies in our group drove home to shower (25 mins!).
Site excellent, Sunday carvery in the hall good value, walking and cycling from the site was good but best of all was the space for giant cricket and rounders matches with the neighbours.
Decent showers, fixed power rather than extension cables all over will make this a superb site. But we'll be back anyway.
Thanks

Have just got home from a weekend at Kelham hall, and I must say it was wonderful. Checking in was told to meet Gary on site, He was so helpful he couldn't do enough for us he even lent us an extension cable for the EHU. The Hall itself is fantastic the staff very friendly, we wanted to have a look inside and where told to wander, by the way the Dome is an WoW moment.
The Hall grounds are wooded and full of wildlife and some amazing tree's. The village church is in the grounds services held on 1st sundays of the month. Also in a sunny glade the Monks burial ground (the hall used to be a training school for monks)We didn't use the facilities on site we had family camping but people we spoke to said what good value they were.
As other people have said the only downside was the shower/toilet block but it does say new facilities Mid August on their web site.
Overall a great weekend a nice site with very friendly staff. Since getting home my daughter and boyfriend have booked another four days next week

This is a really tricky review to write as I have mixed feelings about this site.
We have certainly become a camping family over this warm summer and have been for various long weekends. This site was a last minute decision and I was amazed that they had space, but with it being a new site I now see why.
The +'s
- The staff were great on arrival and we were checked in very quickly.
- There is lots of space on the site which was fantastic. The fact that they are running long extensions for hookups is actually a plus as you are not tied to specific pitches, just a general area.
- The Hall is great, an amazing building which you can wander around freely during the day. The Woodland Walk is very nice and at around a mile long makes a very pleasant morning run for a few laps.
- The Sunday carvery is a must. Very nice food that belies the super price (£6. 50 per adult, £4. 00 for under 10's).
- During our stay there was both a charity dinner and a wedding reception. Neither was intrusive and the traffic noise from them leaving merged in with the general noise from the road at the front of the hall which was a little intrusive at times but generally not bad.
The -'s
- As has been mentioned, the toilet/shower facilities were literally 'old school', being open plan. It would be quite simple to separate these in to individual cubicles, albeit not full height enclosures.
- The pitches are not clearly marked. This would be fine but the warden was quite happy for people to 'just pitch over there somewhere'. This led to us getting some very close neighbors, there was certainly no fire gap of 3m.
The main complaint I have was the noise from a large group that had been allowed on the site. I have no problems with groups camping in general providing they respect the site rules. And I think that this is the problem. Because the site is new they are a little naive and the rules do not cover some important things; namely the use of radios/loud music (not deafening, but I could hear it clearly from 50m away) and the lack of a quiet time. These are usually quite standard and most are happy to adhere. Please sort this out Kelham Hall as the music still being played, and sung along to, at gone 11:30pm should not be acceptable.
But to end on a positive note, if the showers turn up and the noise issue is sorted this would be a real cracker of a site for a weekend away and would certainly go again.
