We stayed in this site over the August bank holiday so it was busy. We found the site to be very well supervised with the “red flag” lady marshal keeping an eye on things. A flat site with well kept grass and 6amp power if required.

The toilet block was suffering a bit with lights and one of the four showers not working however they were cleaned every day and were adequate for us.

The location is good, easy to get to and convenient for visiting St Ives and its interesting river area or using the guided bus for a trip into Cambridge or as we did ride the traffic free cycle path that runs along side the guided bus route across open countryside.

We would be happy to use this site again if we wish to stay in the area.

Well what a difference this time around. We stayed in the 'main' site, with EHU, the site was not a welcoming one, the toilet block was awful, with very dim lighting, if it worked at all. Nothing to dry your hands with / on, toilet door bolts broken, ( they reminded me of a poor run down public toilet ), as for the washing up sinks, yes they were huge, BUT it only let you have a little bit of hot water before running cold.

Around the site it had a few lamp posts with three lights on each on, well there would have been if they had bulbs in. There was even a notice saying the site expects campers to use their own gas, ( although we were paying for electric ), the electric was only 6 amp, (yes that's right, SIX amps NOT 16 ) This site needs a lot of repairs to it to bring it up to a good standard, after all they charged £17pn.

The plus side was it had two lakes, ( I was going to say 'nice lakes' but again they seemed very tired and run down). We were very disappointed to stay here especially after we had stayed out on the 3rd lake with no EHU, (& didn't use the facilities ). So if we stay here again, it will definitely be out there NOT in the main grounds.
Management response: Please note this site is under new management and has had extensive improvements on site, so some aspects of previous reviews might not reflect the current site

We stayed here on our way back from the Elvaston Steam Rally, and also due to the Tour de France in London.

What a gem of a site, we stayed overlooking the lake, we didn't want hook up or to use the facilities, so we can't comment on them, ( it wont let me put N/A on comments so I give it a 10, but as I said we didn't us them or even look at them ) but just being out in the ' wild' was lovely and relaxing.

Will use this site again as a stop over ( or a couple of nights ).

I have been here a number of times with my family and this year I brought my friend and her children who wanted to camp for the first time.

On arrival the warden couldn't have helped enough, both friendly and welcoming. (help with putting our tent up as it was raining)

We were welcomed into the community on site as there are some people who have caravans on site all year round. Anyone who I spoke to on site were friendly and helpful.

We stayed here for a week, then came back a few weeks later for another week as we enjoyed our stay so much. The beauty of it for us is that there is that the kids play good old fashioned games whilst there instead of sitting in front of computer or TV's. Our children became friendly with other children staying here or who stay here during holiday times.

Whilst the showers are very clean we were advised that they are being updated in both the ladies and mens. The fishing lakes were also planned to be de weeded shortly and there are plans for the site for more improvements, can't wait to see the new changes next year.

Brilliant time had by all, def going back next year, cant wait to see the regulars again x x

A very friendly site, we loved our stay there, we were made to feel very welcome by the owners & the seasonal pitchers. We would definitely come back again & the sunday car boot was an added bonus.

His site is brilliant for fishing, although we didn't fish on this occasion. We enjoyed the choice of several takeaway restaurants in the near by St Ives which delivered to the camp site & enjoyed the ice cream van coming round the site as it was a scorching hot weekend

We didn't have any children with us, but there was several children happily playing on site, although the play barn wasn't open whilst we were there.

The site also is dog friendly & we enjoyed our walks around the lakes.

First of all I shall say how much we like this site. We have stayed a few times now in caravan and tent. Staff seem a little lack lustre but not to much of a problem. But, as a lot of people on this site and most people I spoke on the campsite have said, it needs tlc. To be honest the owners would be crazy not to sort these mostly small issues out. The rubbish skips are obviously not adequate as they seem to be permanently spilling over with rubbish. The toilet block needs updating (lick of paint, hand dryers or maybe just some paper towels ). The platforms on the fishing seriously need sorting out, some of these are dangerous. This site is fairly local to us and we tend to use it for weekends chilling out. I'm afraid to say we have started to look for other sites with similar facilities to try.

When we arrived we were directed to the wrong pitch because the owner did not check our booking, I queried this and we were shown to the lakeside pitch we had requested. We weren't told about any of the facilities and had to take our rubbish home with us, we followed a sign to the rubbish skip but the skips said no site rubbish.

The area was pretty and looked out onto the river one side and fields on the other and there was plenty of room for other campers. There was no water tap anywhere near this area, we didn't request electric hook up but thought there might be a water tap near by.

The facilities were pretty tired. The woman's toilets were kept clean although a number of them were out of order and only one seemed to have a working light in it. The showers were ok, clean and plenty of hot water. My husband said the men's showers were tired, the clean shower had no lock and the others were grubby and one of them had mould growing around the extract fan.

There wasn't a friendly vibe at this site like we usually experience.

We stayed here for a week because our son was in Papworth hospital nearby. We were so pleased with everything and nothing was too much trouble for the owner, who managed our stay.

The amenities block is well laid out, there is plenty of hot water; the showers are excellent and the toilets and whole area clean. Everyone is very friendly, it was good to be part of a community for a while; some people have units here permanently.

The site was very quiet when we were there and it has a very pleasant setting, with lakes all around. If we were in the area again, we would definitely stay here. One of the most important services for us was the WiFi, which is a very reasonable cost. We have various commitments at home and this enabled us to be away but still in email communication.

 Absolutely brilliant!

We come back for another visit, don't think we met nicer people than at crystal lakes. The facilities are good, clean toilet and shower block, there's electric points all over the site, hot water running all day, nice little shop on site which is kitted out with basic needs. Kids play barn which is excellent. Safe and clean. The fishing is amazing well looked after lakes, decent carp, tench, bream, Rudd, roach even barbel.

There country side walks which take you along side the great Ouse and leads to a town called st Ives. Very good for wildlife and bird watching on the way. We will be coming back!

Looked good on entry but went downhill. Lot of seasonals about who think its their site. Toilet/showers a bit scruffy car boot in field next door starts early sunday and is busy. Looks as if on one part they have some resident vans, personally don't like. Ok if you like fishing 2 lakes on site. About 3 miles from st. Ives and 1mile from fenstanton. Nearest good sized shop is st. Ives.

Not impressed with attitude of owner / warden.

Wont recommend.
