The best thing about this site is the view.
The site is on a steep incline and you could easy burn out your clutch. The entrance to the triangle pitch area is narrow and a wall on each side on a slope. We had a 4 wheel drive vehicle and this struggled in low range to get around the site.
The touring pitch we were on was in the triangle and there was no room to park the car next to the caravan or put up the annex on the awning. The pitch was not level and we struggled to put in heavy duty tent pegs.
The club house was to busy to many chairs not enough tables, food was over priced and not up to scratch, (steak and ale pie which was chunks of meat with a piece of hard pastry placed on top.
Toilet block was always wet,
Crazy golf area was worn out and full of bricks and when the ball came of course it went into the bushes(ball gets lost you lose the £5 deposit)
Swimming pool was dirty, hair floating and black bits in the water.
Would not go back to this site.

Our first visit in Sept09 after the kids had gone back to school. So very quiet.
PLUS Fantastic views. Very welcoming reception staff Easy access to Torquay, Teignmouth, Sidmouth
MINUS The touring caravan park (straight on through Car park after reception) had very uneven pitches with a lot of bare earth. We eventually pitched up after much manoeuvring, burning clutch etc. Good job we had a jack to even up the caravan - sort of. There were many blocks of wood and breeze blocks around - so obviously others had problems (see other posts).
The superpitches were not much different to the ordinary pitch. The toilet block was OK but could do with updating.
Quite expensive for this pitch standard.

The name is spot on as we pitched our tents in the top casual camping field, great views of the sea and over into Teignmouth itself.
Site is very steep, luckily we had nice dry weather but could be a bit of a slippery nightmare in rain.
Not very busy when we stayed, so could choose levelish ground, reception very helpful as we had not pre-booked.
Shaldon is a must visit, don't go to the glitter-balled clubhouse, looked very tired! The road down has no path, crossing over onto golf course is the safer option.
Shaldon front is super, small but characterful, we ate at the Beachcomber Bistro, lovely meal with local fish. So impressed we returned for breakfast before riding the small boat ferry to Teignmouth.
Showers were adequate and clean.

This is a good camp site but its main problem is that it is on a hill, the pitches are not level, once you have got up the slight hill from reception, don't stop at reception go to the car park, you have a devil of a job levelling, it took me hours and in the end I was still uneven.
The facilities are good, the play areas are of a good standard well maintained and easily reached from any part of the site, the shower and toilet block are cleaned daily, I felt sorry for the cleaning staff because people where leaving them in a mess, god knows what there homes are like.
The club house was in need of a paint job and it recieved one while we where there so it looked a lot better when we left than it did before we got there. There is a good bus service that runs to Torquay and into Teignmouth with bus stops outside the camp site entrance. You can walk into Shaldon but beware the walk back it's steep
The pitches take a lot of the shine from this site and I told the manager that unless the pitches where made level then I would use another camp site when back in the area. He told me that starting in October they have plans to level the touring pitch area and put in hard standing level pitches plus another toilet block in the middle of the triangle. Hopefully this was not said just to please me.

We called in at Coast View on the way back from camping for a week in Cornwall. We came here a few years ago and stayed in a static caravan and really enjoyed it. We hadnt pre-booked a pitch but were advised that there were spaces on the casual camping field at the top of the site. This is quite a large field and there was plenty of space, you could pitch where you liked the pitches are not numbered. The views from up there are stunning, but the site is very steep, you need to be fit! We did notice that the numbered pitches further down the site seemed quite small and a bit cramped.
The reception staff were very friendly and helpful on arrival and there is a well stocked shop which opened between 8am to 8pm.
The shower block nearest the top camping field may need an upgrade in the plumbing department. The shower was just a trickle at first then you got a blast of freezing cold water! but then this is camping!. There is a hairdryer in the ladies which costs 20p, but there are no plug sockets anywhere (I couldn't find any) to plug in your hair straighteners (bit scary if you have hair like mine!) or charge up the mobile phone. I did ask at reception regarding charging the phones, but they didn't offer this service.
The site has a club house that serves good bar snacks and has nightly entertainment which is provided by the coast view staff which in our opinion doesnt seem to be as professional as the entertainment provided in previous years, but nevertheless still entertaining. There is a good indoor swimming pool with separate children's pool and the water was nice and warm.
The walk from Coast View down into Shaldon can be tricky as the road from the campsite is quite busy and has no pavements. The best way is to cut through the pitch & putt right opposite the site, but again this is quite steep.
Shaldon itself is a beautiful place with narrow winding streets, great pubs. We had a meal at the Clifford Arms on the Monday evening, where they serve a 2 course meal with a glass of wine whilst watching a live Jazz band for around £12.
There is also a regular ferry boat over to Teignmouth.
We will return to Coastview as despite the criticisms it's still a great site with great views.

The views are very good here from most parts of the site. If you have a touring van you will be staying in the 'triangle', which has the most uneven pitches I have ever seen with ridiculous access to get onto them, once on them you will need a delivery of breeze blocks to level you up and a good jack. Believe it or not we have been coming here for 4 years and keep thinking each time it would get better, but it hasn't. The children's entertainment is terrible this year, the clubhouse felt very dirty and the food was awful and overpriced. There are only 3 washing machines and 2 tumble dryers for the whole site and most of the time they are out of order and do not wash very well as this area is red clay which stains everything.
The only good thing about here is the reception staff mainly helen who is very helpful! Be careful of your clutch as some people burn them out coming up the hill to get to the pitches.

Lovely views of Teignmouth, but not easy to pitch a caravan with or without a mover. The facilities are ok but not the cleanest and the Clubhouse could do with a overhaul. The food in the Captains table isnt as described in the menu -so be warned especially is you are hungry after a long days travelling go into Shaldon and get Fish and Chips.
The swimming pool had lots of hairs in which wasn't very pleasent either. The only thing good is the view which is a shame.

Our first visit here. Took our touring caravan for the easter bank holiday weekend. We pitched in the triangle area of the site on a grass pitch with electric hook up, it had the best sea views from any site we have been to in this area. We were checked in efficiently having been informed beforehand by the bookings office to take the van up the drive to the parking bay before going to reception. The staff members were very helpful, right from when we first asked for a brochure and made the telephone booking, and the wardens helped us get the van sorted on the pitch when we arrived.
There is a shop on the site which was open all day with most things you need to buy on holiday, and lots of big supermarkets within driving distance. There is a good choice of food in the foodbar which are served in the clubhouse area. The clubhouse has entertainment in the evenings and had a good atmosphere.
We had our dog with us and the site is pet-friendly with a dog walking area. You can't take your dog on some of the beaches later in the year but when we were there there were few restrictions. The local beaches are very pretty and you can walk down to the village beach in less than ten minutes.
There were lots of groundsmen around tending to the lawns and doing maintenance work, and the park was pretty and tidy and the facilities clean. We had a problem with the washing machine in the launderette but that was all, and it got sorted out in the end.
This site is certainly worth visiting. There are lots of touring and tent pitches. It has a nice family atmosphere and we pulled off the site with the intention of returning again later in the year.

The views from the 'superpitches' were absolutely stunning. The problem we had, along with everyone else was actually getting onto the pitch. If we had not had the help of some friendly motorhome occupants we would have had to go home! The design had not allowed for people to actually manouvre their units onto the pitches.
That said, the site was really nice. Very hilly, nice showers, park and pool really nice as no-one there. Restaurant food was nice.
Would I go again? No. The views, sadly, do not make up for the ridiculous access to super pitches and steep hills.

What can we say, fantastic veiws, great play ground and assault course(even had a go myself after a few beers). Nice bar and pools were good in conservatory style cover, although very hot
If you were just watching. The toilets were clean and showers were hot but showers needed benches or stools for clothing.
On the negative side, firstly we stopped at reception and our car nearly burnt out clutch going up hill after we had booked in. We got to our pitch (no 49) which was big enough to park our car on and nothing else, so we changed it to another pitch only to find it had dog mess on it. The pitches were scruffy and you got the feeling that this is just a side line from the static vans. At the end of our camping field was the site workshop which had what can only be described as the 'dingle' van going up and down full pelt(even though there is a 5 mph limit everywhere on the site) blowing dust everywhere every 20 minutes .
Despite this, the site has the best veiws we have seen in many years camping and would return again but would ensure we booked on the lower field with the fully serviced pitches.
