 Dear Friends

After 12 months on site we have moved on from here now due to his lordships work moving to another part of the country so here is our final 12 month review

Not so good items: Room for improvements

(1) electric hook ups are only 6 amp and considering its 2013 perhaps needs to be 16 amp now. If you take a pitch with the electric on a meter be warned its not the cheapest option

(2) pitches, watch out on the hardstandings, 2 punctures on tyres which at £150 each isnt cheap, type 2 hardcore which doesn't always remove those pesky nails and screws

(3) noise levels, sometimes the locals come out to camp and do they make some noise and till late, recently a rally was on site and to be singing anti english songs at 0200 wasn't the kind of behaviours a good campsite should be allowing

So the good bits:

(1) Secured site, some parts being developed and take this as a good thing

(2) Bar and cafe on site does some good meals, had several meals in the place, eaten in and if you ring in advance they can either do a plated meal or sandwiches to take down to your vans

(3) loads to do in the area too many to list but there is Asda, KFC, Mac's, Pizza Hut, Halfords etc Blackwood loads of different shops etc. One place of note is the Viceroy Indian in Ystrad Mynach, definitely one to visit

(4) Good site for contractors to stay on whilst working in Wales.

(5) Facilities are good, clean and tidy, very hot push button showers but you will come out clean

(6) Out of the way, top of the hill, lovely fresh winds are refreshing when it gets a good blast going on but be assured on a sunny day get that sun cream out as you will need it

(7) on site shop has lots of bits and pieces which can bail you out if you need it

(8) reception and information centre has lots in it

So 12 mths on site and we had to depart due to his work changes, so what did it mean to us then and the big question

Would we return to this site. We would go back there for a break, its a good site overall, needs a little work to really make a difference but we would consider using it again.

Best wishes

The family

The campsite was ok; facilities fine, apart from the noisy pub. Weather wasn't good, but not their fault. Welcome was good with friendly staff. However, there is no mention on their website of the commercial tip at the bottom of the campsite which somewhat spoils the overall view when you go for a walk. Also, nothing has been mentioned about the gun club which uses the site. We were woken by BANG BANG BANG on what was supposed to be a peaceful Sunday morning! This went on for several hours. For these two reasons, we won't be returning as the noise ruined our weekend and overshadowed the good customer service by the staff.

Good site with welcoming wardens. Lovely views across the valleys, but inclined to be a bit windy. Excellent for walkers and fishing enthusiasts, with lake a short walk away.

Approach road to be taken with care due to some narrow sections, and sharp bends.

Excellent pub/restaurant on site, with good menu at realistic prices. Residents of seasonal caravans inclined to be a bit noisy late at night, don't always obey the rules.

Would recommend, and will visit again.

Well this site is the worst that I have stayed at, the ground is boggy and wet and almost impossible to get pegs in the ground to secure the awning, our caravan floor soon got dirty

The shower blocks was clean and tidy but the doors had holes in or broken locks, but not the end of the world, showers are nice and powerful but no temperature control so can be a little to hot, but otherwise nice

The site in in places is more like a construction site and can be quiet noisy in the morning as a result

The pub is a waste of space, it not open half the time and when it is there is nothing going on at all, and the park, well it better than nothing I suppose

The staff however are very friendly and helpful, but that the only positive thing I have to say about this place, its fair to say I wont be returning or recommending this site to anyone else, which is a shame as it could have so much potential to be so much more

 Tent, 2 people, 1 car. £15pn

This site looked nice on first impression. They have a huge storage facility for caravans there They have barriers which a £5 deposit is required the card but you get that back

We had really thick fog so couldn't see any views unfortunately.

There was an annoying beeping noise going all night and even when we woke up. I'm guessing some sort of alarm had to be reset so no real problem with that

Toilets/showers and washing up facilities were clean. They have 2 blocks. One modern and one not so modern. The showers temperature was a nightmare. Boiling hot at some points. Pretty annoying

We had to pitch the tent on the gravel as the grass to muddy. This was fine though

They have 2 laundry rooms and washing up facilities

They have an on site pub. Which wasn't open, although the staff said it would be from 7pm. It wasn't.

Supermarket, Shops etc a short drive away

Staff were friendly and helped us out on the local area

I would use this site again

Following a very quick change of plan (site we were supposed to be staying at was far from what we expected) we needed a new site pretty urgently. We were told by a lovely woman that yes they could accommodate us. The wardens were really nice and friendly, very accommodating.

Sadly our first impressions of the site were spoilt by loud music and foul language coming from some other people staying there. However after this first night (out of 3 nights) things went quieter but we never really felt at ease.

The toilets and showers were nearby which was a bonus, they were generally clean, many toilet doors did not have locks that worked but on the plus side the shower was nice and hot. There was a pub on site but this was closed during our visit.

The site itself was untidy in places and was lacking a welcoming atmosphere we would stay out for as long as possible to avoid returning, it was quite a relief to leave.

The best thing about this site was the very friendly wardens.

Visited this site at last minute, lets just say it was not good, ampage was that low it tripped out with heater(750w) and lamp on, really didn't cater for my 8month old baby with electric that low. Found ourselves taking children home at 12 in the night because its was freezing as electric kept tripping. When we went to see about this in the afternoon we were told they were eating their dinner(we all got to eat) but there was no need for the attitude we were given, we returned the following day to collect our tent as we had to leave it there and our money for that day and the response we receive after returning was diabolical, we were told to get off the site and not return, this left me fuming as it was not our fault about the electric. I would strongly recommend that if you have a little one don't not go to this site

This site is very near home and we fancied a weekend away that did not involve our normal two hour drive to our favourite site.

On the plus side this site is lovely and clean, quiet and the staff are super friendly. The shower block is clean and one of the nicest I've seen and the people in the attached pub are the most accommodating and friendly people I've met.

On the minus side the site is very quiet, it's more an older persons site and my two teenagers where very bored. The pub meals where a welcome distraction although they were nothing special they were very reasonably priced. I found it very odd that the pub was shut Sunday night and all day Monday but I suppose they need some time off!

Be warned if your in a tent the camp was very windy even though it was a beautiful weekend possibly because it is on a hill. This is not the sites fault of course.

There is a shop (a van) that has loads of stuff in it and is open till about 11 and a asda about 5 mins away.

The town of blackwood is about 5 mins drive away.

The pitch they gave us was a super pitch that was super flat with it's own mains water even though we paid no extra.

I would go back to this site but only myself and my husband for a quiet weekend away

Stayed over the Easter Holidays for 4 days. Excellent toilet block at the bottom of the camp site. Restaurant was excellent. Went in there everyday. Brilliant meals, service, always clean and friendly atmosphere.

A warm welcome except for one receptionist, but everyone else excellent. Would definitely go there again

Overall an excellent weekend stay. Highly recommend the restaurant.

We needed a campsite at short notice and this site said that they could accommodate us. We turned up and were shown a nice pitch. Pub on site (we did not have time to use it)

Toilet block was clean, when we returned late back to the site we found it dark, from the tent to the toilet, but it was ok on the next visit as we took a torch,

We would like to return to the site next year and stay longer so that we can enjoy what the site has to offer.
