We stayed at this ite for 9 nights, covering two Saturdays (more later). As everyone has said the facilities were always spotless with plenty of hot water. The site is situated at the top of a hill (steep climb up esp. From Crumlin) with outstanding southerly views (and good tv reception of all Freeview services) The site is being developed further and has a large number of permanently sited touring caravans, storage, statics etc. The wardens (Bob and Carole) are very helpful and friendly. There is a small supermarket about 1.5mls from site and there is a 24hr Asda 3.5mls away in Blackwood.
However the first Saturday we were there there was a party held on adjacent land. The party started at 11pm with fireworks and continued with loud music until 4.30am. The second Saturday night we were there there was a wedding reception in the on-site pub which again disturbed us until around 2am. For these reasons I would be reluctant to stay at this site again, which is a pity as it has everything else going for it.

When I arrived the wardens made me feel very welcome, and even popped round to make sure we managed to put up the camper.
There is a mobile shop that comes round the site that has everything you could need and will deliver papers and milk etc in the morning, which came in handy.
Toilets are clean and warm, with free showers and no hot water problems, I didn't have any children with me so I didn't check out play area,
There is a bar / restaurant on site where I am told the meals are very good for the price, I did go to the bar at night and had a game of pool and a pint where everyone made us feel very welcome,
If you are going there do not trust your satnav there are two ways to site and one is not suitable for caravans very steep dirt road, the other road is fine if you are heading in from blackwood go over the large bridge, and turn left and you will be ok

Very clean and well run site with the most helpful wardens you could ever hope to meet anywhere. The Travellers Rest is the Pub / Restaurant on the site which served up one of the best lamb dishes I have ever tasted, and again, everyone friendly and helpful. Normal pub prices too so no rip off like some sites. There is a nature trail where you can walk your dog and doggy bins are placed near the entrance to the trail. Showers were piping hot and free and kept very clean. There is an Asda about 2 miles away to stock up and I will definitely be returning again to this wonderful site.

Have just come back from a 4 night stay just before Christmas. Wow!
It's a wonderful site with warm and friendly hospitality shown by the wardens Carol & Bob, who also did a sterling job in clearing the snow on the paths & roadways!
Good sized hard standing pitches, decent clean toilet & shower facilities, plenty of water points (which naturally froze, although water was still running okay inside the toilet rooms). Sadly I didn't get chance to sample the delights of The Traveller's Rest pub which is based near the main entrance.
The site itself seems geared up for families who want a low-key holiday, with play areas (that I could make out under 6' of snow!) rather than all-singing, all-dancing 24/7 entertainment. Or great for someone on their own to get away from it all for a while (like me!).
It is a little out of the way but on roads that are kept clear all the time it's only about 40mins drive from Cardiff, let alone all the local towns which are much nearer which have all the usual shops & services.
I would highly recommend the site to anyone wanting a base in the south of Wales and look forward to coming back there myself in the summer! :)

Service very good was greeted straight away and moved to a different pitch which was better for us. We pitched on gravel (which we were told about before we booked) for the first time- horrible for getting the pegs in! Good pub on site, serving good food although its closed Sunday evenings and Monday. Travelled to Cardiff every day to see various things- the Welsh heritage museum is a definite must! Free to go in and can easily spend all day there.

We liked this site as it is sort of high up but a bit exposed when the winds are high and when it's raining it gets very misty as there is a pond nearby so it sort of holds the mist around the area a bit.
It'a a clean site and the pub/restaurant is nice and food is good ~ the showers are quite new on the bottom field but there is a lot of work going on developing the site on the very bottom part so gets a bit dusty on times and lots of workmen's caravans on site in their own area and also two very large compound storage sites. The top showers are ok but they sometimes go cold and the washing up area has no light over the sinks so when it's dark it's not very good to see and a bit rough around that part. The camping field enough for about 10 at a push is not very big and is sort of in the centre as the row of static caravans for regulars are behind at close quarters and there is a row of tourers in front so you are in the middle The static and tourers are for people who stay or live there and are sited caravans so you sort of feel like you are intruding on them a bit especially if you have children and they can be a bit noisy they may not like it as they are sited there for the peace and quiet then the campers come along and are right in the middle sort of thing.
The play area is not very good it's along side the pub and not very much there to be honest needs a lot of attention and very disappointing on the whole not a bad site but you have to travel for any shops and entertainment etc.

We're expereinced campers - 2 adults, 1 kid.
Great site. Had my doubts when we arrived as there's only about 10 tent pitches in all and only 5 in the small paddock we were allocated. Personally, I prefer something a bit *less* intimate. But it was great. Helpful, friendly staff, free freezer block service, well-kept site, no road noise at all, no noise from other tourists. I usually steer clear of sites with on-site club because of the noise and the type of people it attracts. But this one was very well done and well run. The kids play area is right by the club house so they can play while you have a drink/meal; although the play equipment is disappointing (open grass area, 2x climbing frame, no swings).
There are two toilet blocks. Avoid the top block and use the lower one! Lower toilet block, very good. Top block - OK for washing and toilets but showers unuseable. Washing up point also fine.
24 hour Asda 3.2 miles away!
Well recommended. We may well go back.

Well we have all just returned from this campsite, it was absolutely fab, if your looking for a campsite that is spotless serves fantastic food and very quiet then this is the campsite for you.
When you arrive, which for us was around 7pm, we pulled into the caravan layby next to the barriers, then to the left of you is the reception, all we had to do was pick up phone which is situated just outside the reception door and the lovely reception lady met us in less than a minute. We were all booked in in less than 5 mins. We were given our little map and codes for the facilities, which I must add were absolutely spotless and the showers were piping hot (lovely)
All of our children had a fabulous time and they made friends straight away they had found a swing down by the nature walk and had hours upon hours playing on it. The views down the bottom end of the campsite are absolutely breathtaking. All in all I could say a lot more about this site but the list goes on and on, it's a little hideaway gem, as someone has already said and if you visit try out the restaurant, everything is homecooked. I had two meals there, a steak one night and a sunday roast, which was absolutely stunning and the place was spotless and very good reasonable priced food.
All in all would I stay here again most definately, hope to be going back very soon.

This is a cracking site. The check in was easy and bearing in mind we were late arrivals, 8pm, the lady came straight to the reception and booked us in straight away. A nice man with a golf cart showed us to our pitch and all well.
The site is, generally, very well kept. The toilets were spot less and the showers were warm and free.
The views are stunning even when the cloud cover is a little low as it was when we were there.
As stated, there is no shop on the site but oakdale and blackwood is only a few mins in the car. They have a very large asda in blackwood. The are no buses that pick up near the site so you would need to be dependant on the car.
The on site club house does very good food and very affordable prices. There sunday lunches are very popular with the locals as well.
All in a very nice little site, the only down side from our point of view was that there could be a little tarmac put down on the roads. It would make the site look so much nicer. That said we will not have any problems returning.

We went down to Blackwood for a night as it is not far away from where I live, me and my partner meet up with his brother and girlfriend. The site is in a quite location. The site isnt really big but it is kept well, and toilets and showers are clean. Be warned that if you want a hot shower you'd have to get up really early, lucky for our lot we where up when the children awoke around 6am but people that stayed the night before us went for showers at 10:00am and they said it was freezing. Overall would stay again as its located near to home town and is fun for a couple of nights but easy if needed to nip home too. They have a club house which is also a resturant and a childrens play area.
