Visited this site off the back of the excellent reviews on here but have to say was very disappointed. Only stayed 2 nights which was enough!
The site itself is in a lovely location, great for walking or cycling and exploring the Forest of Dean.
Pitches are all set out well, all looking neat & tidy on approach.
The reception is just that and not a shop as advertised - not even basics for sale. Worth noting is that they don't accept card payment for pitch fees.
The pitch we were given appeared fine, tucked neatly in a corner. However unbeknown to us on the other side of the fence was the cess pit drainage system. The stench from that by Sunday morning was almost unbearable! We didn't hang around for a leisurely breakfast! And talking of smells - on the Saturday evening when we finally got a bit of sunshine to sit out in, the owners decided to dismantle the fence around their living accommodation and spray them with creosote! I'm all for maintenance but surely they could've picked a better time - perhaps when the site was less busy. It is after all only a small site with the owners accommodation at the centre of it!
The showers & toilets could really do with knocking down and starting again! Whilst kept very clean there is no getting away from the fact they are very old and showers are small.
Whilst I wouldn't advise you to avoid at all costs - I'd not be recommending it either!

Booked a hookup and friends had two non electric pitches. Plenty of room. Grass is short and lush. Site is just off a through road but never heard a vehicle.
No shop operating when we arrived and needed milk and bread, but spar / tesco express / co op all in coleford. Was recommended Tram Stop fish and chips on St johns street in coleford. Friends had some and was excellent.
There were 6 kids in our party between ages of 6 and 12. No play area but brought toys/ bat and ball and made own fun. Not a groups/ party site as most were in bed by 10pm! Excellent!
Tracey the owner, very friendly and even defrosted some chicken for me on arrival ! Plenty of soap and toilet rolls in loos. No queues and always clean.
Only minor detail is there are no real views from the site. All surrounded by poplars and firs. You could be anywhere. Symonds yat a must for dining and walks. Try the small ferry boat crossing outside Saracens Inn. Kids loved it.
Would recommend and rebook if visiting area again

Just returned from this site after a bank holiday weekend. Can honestly say we think we have found a gem of a site. Owners helpful. Clean site. Facilities basic but good.
The area just brilliant for all sorts of activities and shops not 10 minute drive. Despite the site being full (it was the Jubilee weekend) the site facilities coped very well and I didn't queue at all for the shower.
The only small thing is about the Showers which although have shower curtains, really needs a door. This wont however prevent us from returning.
One warning. If you are using a SAT NAV, ignore it when it tries to take you through Simmonds Yat. Instead go to monmouth and it will correct itself. The route for Symonds yet says no HGV - its doesn't say no caravans - but it should

The campsite it self wasn't hard to find, the directions were clear on their website, Rather than getting lost we found our way easily, having our tent set up by mid-afternoon.
The campsite itself was well kept, the facilities were pretty basic, but, was perfect for our stay. The toilets were very clean and the toilet roll was regularly stocked which is always a good thing! The showers were always warm, although there was only two, but we was lucky as it was out of season, so we never had to wait, or queue.
The was also a wash room, to wash the dishes, etc. There was a shop on site, however it wasn't exactly a shop, it was just the reception with a few necessities, such as milk, chocolate and washing up liquid, the prices were very cheap, lower than the rrp.
We really enjoyed our stay even though the weather was not too great, we even had a bbq, after asking the owners.
The campsite was run by what seemed a family, and they were very helpful and friendly and seemed to to be cleaning and sweeping the campsite and their home everyday!
There was a bell on the reception if we ever needed help or assistance and there was never long to wait for one of the owners to come and help.
We stayed in a tent however there was caravans on site too and there was a waste disposal point for all the caravanners.
Finally the area itself was lovely, we was near everything as neither of us could drive, there was also regular buses going into Gloucester, Chepstow and the local town of Coleford. We didn't struggle to get to places, and the campsite is just a few minute walk from Puzzle wood which is where we spent our first day, we was also a few minutes walk away from Perrygrove railway.
There are many walks in the Forest of Dean and lovely places to eat.
Overall we had a great holiday and possibly would love to return. It was also a very cheap campsite, at just £13 pound a night for two persons in one tent.
We would recommend this campsite to everyone and anyone of all ages.

I've just returned from a 3 night break at Woodlands View. Lovely little site with immaculate pitches. There is a cycle path from close to the site into Coleford which is a nice little town with plenty of shops and a cinema. We visted Puzzlewood which is a few minutes walk down the road and there's also Perrygrove Railway and Clearwell Caves close by but we didn't have time to visit them on this occasion. The people in the sited caravans were very friendly and helped me pitch the awning and also fixed my son's bike for me which was nice. There is a small shop on site but it really only sells chocolate and pop. The shower and toilet block is quite old but spotlessly clean and everytime I paid a visit there was plenty of loo roll and liquid soap. There are only 2 female showers and the pressure is a bit low but the water was lovely and hot. My son had loads of fun cycling around the site and it was small enough for me to keep an eye on him without having to follow him around. My parents visited us for the day and were also very impressed with the site. This is one that warrants a return visit.

Lovely site in a fantastic location. Small but well kept and the pitches are spacious and nice with pretty shrubs around them. Very close to Puzzlewood and Nagshead Nature Reserve which are brilliant. We also visited Slimbridge Wetlands Reserve (50 minutes drive away). Access the the Forest of Dean trails is easily found in the area. Symonds Yat (about 15 mins drive away) is absolutely beautiful and well worth the climb up the rock for the stunning views. Our only small gripe was the showers - the water was hot but it trickled out very slowly making showering a lengthy and not very refreshing affair! However, the facilities were very clean. The shop is barely stocked (can't really call it a shop!) but there are shops in nearby Coleford. There is nothing for kids to do on the site but we didn't have any with us so didn't bother us - the ones who were there seemed to entertain themselves anyway). As other people have said there is an industrial unit next to the site but it didn't affect us. We loved it here and would definitely stay again.

Just had a weekend camping here, only took 55 mins to get there from our home just north of Cardiff - fantastic. Arrived to a friendly welcome, beautifully kept small site, grass that seems to have been 'manicured' it was really that good. Wouldn't say the shop was well stocked unless you wanted to buy a mars bar or tin of beans, no fresh goods but there's a shop a short bike ride away so no real problem there for us.
Other campers in the seasonal pitched vans were very welcoming, toilets and showers were spotless, agree with other comments here about there not being doors on the shower cubicles, just a shower curtain which means you're leaving your towel and clothes effectively outside the cubicle, but that would be my only gripe about the place.
Not the sort of site for you if your kids can't entertain themselves or if you can't be bothered to entertain them, there really is nothing on the doorstep outside of woodland walks/biking and peace and quiet. Plenty of pubs and hotels within striking distance though. Looking through the site rules there, the owners also discourage noise outside your unit after 10pm, not for everyone I'm sure but perfect for us - will definitely be back.

We have used this site on two occasions, and have always been pleased, clean shower facilities and toilet area,
A very well kept site well mown grass area, nice hard stands. All in all we will certainly be using it again. We averaged three nights per stay and found we did not have time to take in the area. Its a must we have to visit again. Heard such a lot about puzzle wood,
The static caravans owners were friendly. The local area shops and pubs are all within easy distance. Had a good walk to the local garden centre and the mine. Did not have time enough to visit the train, perhaps next time,
On a couple of reviews it mentioned the the industrial area, this did not interfere with us, on entry to the site the road was a little rough but they were re surfacing it when we left, this can only improve a nice friendly, peaceful site. As said before we will be using it again very soon

We have just spent a week at this lovely site. The facilities are basic but clean. The showers are free and have plenty of hot water. The shop is not really 'well stocked' but we only ever use site shops for freezing coolblocks, which they don't charge for.
The site is within easy walking distance of several attractions, and also several pubs (the Wyndham Arms in Clearwell village was excellent).
There is an RSPB reserve about 3 miles away, as well as several forest walks just outside the site. It was a lovely, quiet, well maintained site in an excellent spot. Highly recommended!

Nice tidy, well maintained site. We were not given much of a welcome or goodbye and to report to reception or shop you needed to ring a bell as neither was open for access.
Caravan pitches are hard standing and space beside on grass for your car.
The shop was only stocked with sweets and pop for kids rather than some essentials as we expected or information on the local area attractions etc.
The field mentioned for children to play on at the front of the site is a local football pitch rather that just space for children to play and can be very busy if there is a match on.
The facilities were always spotless clean and lovely but the showers could do with more privacy and some space to hang your clothes/towel and shower gel. The water was warm but was pressure seemed low and on pushing the button was lucky to get dripped on before it stopped again.
We followed the link from here to the sites own website and pitches were priced with a range of £13 - £16 but ours was getting closer to £20 per night
This is a nice site for adults but not really any facilities for children no ball games or cycling allowed in the park and no space to help children shower.
