Just had a weekend break at this site, the location is absolutely fantastic with lots to do in the local area. Barnard Castle just 3 miles away with plenty of shops, eating places and things to see. On arrival I was greeted at reception with a very laid back manner, no directing to a certain site just a help yourself and choose your own pitch. Having 3 young children I have to have eyes in the back of my head, however the playing area was very close to the touring pitches as were the showers and toilets, so they were never out of site. There are a lot of statics on site and plenty of seasonal tourers pitched. The pitches were spacious enough for Caravan, awning and car. The toilet block was clean and open 24hrs. There was a wooden play area which the children enjoyed and areas for them to play other games.
All in all a very enjoyable experience at Hetherick, which I would recommend to others. We will certainly return in the future.

Myself and family have stayed at this site for 5yrs on and off, consists of mam, dad and daughter and 2 dogs, good points, showers clean and tidy, site very clean, shop ok (could do with opening more often)good sized play area for kids, very nice walks and good dog walk, friendly staff. Very spacious gaps between vans and tents
Not so good points:-
Some people who just visit as one offs seem to think they do not have to follow rules and request signs for example,
NO BALL GAMES ALLOWED (big play area for all sorts of fun at the park), yet caravan and cars gets bumped often.
PLEASE KEEP DOGS ON LEADS, some people think my dog is well behaved so off you go and remember to poo behind bush or in long grass just where the kids play.
I have 1 child 2 dogs and yes sometimes a pain to put my food and drink down and leave friends while enjoying myself. But they are my responsibility so PLEASE look after kids and dogs so that everyone can have fun
PLEASE PICK UP YOUR DOG POO. If this is you please stop
Only a few spoil it, a great site and going back again soon.

Just came back from a lovely long weekend at Hetherick. All I can say about the site is good things, spotless showers and toilets, large spacious pitches, everyone was very friendly. My 2 boys 11 and 8 loved the play area, shop only had a small selection put did serve meals. Barnard castle is not far and there is loads to see and do, We will be returning in the next few weeks. I highly recommend this site to all.

Just returned from a week stay here with my mam and my 3children aged 10, 8 and 3yrs. What can I say, we all had a fab week! toilet block was spotless and showers lovely and hot, they do cost 20p. The playground kept my children amused along with the stream and dog walk, everywhere kept very clean and tidy. Was lovely walking around the statics and my 3yr old daughter loved seeing the wild bunnies running around. Some fab views to be seen, and lovely walks to be had, about 5-10min drive into Barnard castle where there is Morrisons, hardware shops and cafes. All in all I would recommend this site, so peaceful yet welcoming to the kids, can't wait to go back! has a small shop on site open on weekends which sells food, hotdogs, burgers, chips etc and you can get a lovely sunday lunch with HUGE yorkie pud :) out in the country so would have to drive into local town or walk 3 1/2 miles. Lovely, friendly, helpful owners and well kept farm and site.

Had a lovely long weekend at Hetherick. Tent pitch was a really good size- we were the only tent there. Pretty level- noisy sheep in field behind us, but once evening set in they went to sleep.
Toilet block a few minutes walk away, very clean, showers nice and hot. Little shop on site with a chippy- you can also order Sunday lunch-which was a bonus.
Getting to the site- is a little bumpy over several cow grates- but it is a farm.
5 minute ride in Barnard castle for quaint shops and a Morrisons, also Bowes museum, which has pleasant walks.
On site lovely dog walk, also kiddy friendly with a riverside walk and a few swings etc, quite a few kids riding their bikes around. Lots of statics- very friendly owners.
Would recommend and will be going back again

Very pleasant site in a nice quiet location five minutes away from Barnard Castle. Upon arrival, owner personally showed us to our pitch and had been thoughtful in pitching us near our friends who were already at the site.
Had a decent toilet block with showers but you have to get there really early to stand a chance of getting any warm water never mind hot water.
The only drawback for me was that we were pitched near the toilet block and it was quite noisy late evening due to kids playing in the toilet block, constant sound of hand driers going off making it more of a social meeting point than a toilet block! Not very nice when you have children in bed and a dog in the tent that will bark when he hears noise like that.
Kids play area was sufficient with a good dog exercise area. Shop was very basic but offered us a good Sunday lunch before we left.
As long as we are not pitched near the toilet block, we would definitely visit there again.

Well what can I say, some good points and some bad point, Lets start with the good points.
Campsite location good, Barnard castle, High force etc worth a visit.
The campsite has a park for the kids and a small stream running through for the older kids to play in. Some statics and seasonal caravans (the owners very pleasant)campsite was clean at all times.
Small shop open during the day selling everything you could need from toilet roll to Sunday lunch.
Pitches of good size and fairly level with EHU.
Good dog walk.
Not so good points
Toilet showers need update and cost 20p a shower however they where hot.
Dog poo bags tipped out of bin at end of dog walk (By the kids I guess)
To be honest, that's the only down falls I can find with this site.
I will be revisiting in the future.
My advice is give the site a go as the location and site is great and the people are lovely

Good points.Very nice location 4 miles from barnard castle in the middle of some lovely countryside. Site itself is very nice clean and tidy big plots good dog walk. Shop on site ok but not open much.
Bad points toilets and showers not the best 20 pence for shower which are not the best the old lady who cleans them not very helpful as she puffs on her fags hence the smell of smoke in toilets.
Electrics on site went off a few times and site was not very busy

Well maintained site, neat and tidy, mainly for statics and for caravans pitched for the season but with spaces for tourers and tents with hookups. The owner is relaxed and friendly.
The small shop was independently run by a local baker who stocked good produce. The shower block was tired but ok and cleaned regularly. Only two handbasins in the mens facilities.
The site is well off the road and so, fellow campers allowing, it has the potential to be a very peaceful spot. We liked it. The nearest pub within walking distance (Redwell Inn) is 2 and a half miles leaving south on the public footpath - you will need a map.
The site is well placed for reaching the countryside attractions all around and only 10 minutes drive from the pretty market town of Barnie.

Just returned from this site and enjoyed our stay. A good price.
We were offered a choice of pitches and picked a one on the field away from the park (although we do have two small children). I felt we had more space here and the tents seemed to be pitched very close to each other on the other field (it was very noisy on the first night so we were pleased with our choice). We just walked to the park with the kids when they wanted to go.
The toilet/shower block was kept clean and showers were hot. Two showers and three toilets with sinks for washes etc. The hand drier in the ladies was cold and the mens didn't work. This could do with updating.
The shop tends to open an hour on the morning and evening and there's a sign in the window to tell you when. It was basic but did sell fresh eggs and bacon which were nice.
We took a walk round the site and it is very well kept in the static area and kids enjoyed getting to see the sheep etc.
We left early as it was very windy. The site did have a lot of trees for shelter in the area we were in but it was still too much or me and I think lots of others did the same.
We went to visit Barnard Castle ruins which cost us about £10. It was worth the money as you can go up in the tower ruins and take a picnic in the sensory garden. There is also a small park and crazy golf nearby so a good day out close by for the kids.
