Just returned from 2 nights camping with my fiancee at Hetherick Farm Campsite near Barnard Castle and we had a briliant time.
Facilities were first class, with clean, well-maintained showers and toilets, a washing up / laundry room and a little shop selling all your basics plus hot dogs, bacon butties and jacket potatos each day.
Static caravans in one half of the site, with a mixture of touring caravans and tents in a couple of fields in the other half. Nicely landscaped with lots of trees for shelter and a woodland walk next to the playground.
We pitched our 3 man tent underneath some trees positioned halfway between the toilets / shower cubicles and the children's playground. Kids were all well-behaved, polite and seemed to be enjoying themselves. Was nice to hear them having fun.
Weather was fantastic all weekend - hot and sunny, and although it's just 40mins drive from our house it felt like we were away on holiday.
Short drive to the pretty town of Barnard Castle which has lots of nice locally run chocolate shops, bakers and the Bowes Museum, the 'green village' of Staindrop, Middleton-in-Teesdale and Raby Castle.
All in all, lots to see and do and we're already talking about going back. Highly recommended!

Stayed at this site for 2 nights earlier this month. As this was our very first camping trip we had nothing to compare it with. The site was off the beaten track so very quiet as far as traffic noise goes. The sheep, cows and dog were unusual sounds for us - but only the dog kept us up at night. The facilities were fine (we had no complaints) and thought the microwave in the kitchen / laundry area was a nice touch, as were the books and magazines available too. The children on the site seemed to love the park. Middleton in teesdale and High Force are close by, and Barnard Castle is well worth a visit. It was such a shame we were there when we had had rain for 5 days solid, and it was so wet, but it didn't stop us from having fun.

Just stayed the weekend at this site, the site itself is very picturesque with a lovely long dog walking area through the woods and stream. The toilet block and showers facilities were spotless, it costs 20p for the showers but it lasts for a very long time, excellent value. The kids enjoyed the playing area and the small shop was well stocked and supplies the necessities, including horrible sticky stuff for the kids. The shop also suplies hot snacks if you dont feel like cooking i.e. bacon butties, jacket pots etc.
Not much in walking distance but ideally situated for all local attractions, 10 mins from the lovely high force, Raby Castle and Barnard Castle which has a supermarket. A great site will definatley visit again.

Had a great weekend at this site, weather was terrible, but site was idyllic, shower/toilet block was spotless, laundry/dishwashing room excellent. Lots of leaflets provided for what to do in the area. As a group of 3 tents we pitched together next to an excellent play park so we could see the children most of the time; there is also a small stream running by the park, ideal for paddling.
The local area provides a lot of free/cheap entertainment for the family; High Force & Bowlees waterfalls; Museums, Castles & quaint towns & villages. I was not keen on the idea of camping so close to home but very pleased that I did.

We have just spent 2 days with other friends in this site and found the owner very friendly. Toilets were immaculate and showers were hot and long for 20p. Kids had a play ground which had enough to keep them occupied. Well worth a visit and we will be going back in august. Shop was open for the things you have forgotten and the site was very well kept. Plenty of walks for dogs if you take one.

We stayed at Hetherick Park for 8 nights including the Whit Bank Holiday. We arrived at 9.30pm on the Friday night, the site had said this late arrival was fine. We were shown to our pitch by a helpful gentleman. The staff were all pleasant and helpful. The site was full - we had got the last pitch. We were located next to the toilet block and opposite the children's playground but there was no problem with noise from either.
The children's playground had a range of play equipment and room for ball games.
The site is reached by quite a long single track road of excellent quality. It is quite a large one with a lot of statics and seasonal pitches. There were 2 areas for touring 'vans. In the area where we were situated the pitches were on grass around the perimeter of a large, well-drained grass area which had a large open space in the centre. There was a camping area next to the playground which had a slight slope - this accommodated tents and touring 'vans. This tent/'van area had EHUs too The site has a number of trees which add to its pleasant appearance. There are not many views as the site is set in a hollow. There are 2 pleasant circular walks by the side of a small river, with seats and picnic table - one is a dog walk. It was quiet and peaceful throughout our stay.
We paid £13 a night for 2 adults, caravan and hook-up. We had our dog with us but there was no extra charge for him. EHU provided a high ampage as we were able to use the microwave and other electrics without any problem. The pitches are open but of a good size. There was room for an awning, extra charge, but we didn't bother as the weather was wet and windy.
TV reception, including, freeview, was very good using our van's Status 530 aerial. Virgin mobile reception was excellent too.
The amenities block had 2 toilets and 2 metred showers for each gender. There was loo paper but no soap. It was kept clean and did not seem over busy though the site was full. The block, also, includes a laundry room with washer, drier and sink. This room, also, had a selection of books and tourist info leaflets. There was, also, a CDP and fresh water taps in this building. There was a very small shop which was open morning and evening over the Bank Holiday weekend and as well groceries and toys, also, offered a limited range of take-away food. The shop was closed after the Bank Holiday. There is a payphone near to the amenities block.
There are no pubs or shops in the immediate vicinity but Barnard Castle is only a 10 minute drive away. BC has a good range of small shops and small Boots, Woolworths and Superdrug. There are a good range of pubs and eateries of all types. There is a Morrisons' Supermarket in the town too. We visited the Castle (£4 adult) which has good views over the river. There is a very good tourist info office which includes an internet cafe (£1.50 for 30 mins). BC is an interesting town with lovely walks along the river. We enjoyed the annual 'meet', the carnival which included a procession and car boot sale. The Wednesday market was a bit pathetic - only about 6 stalls!
We, also, visited Middleton in Teesdale a lovely little town with a good range of shops, pubs and eateries. It had a farmers' market on the Sunday which looked interesting although it was nearly over when we arrived at 3.30pm. We enjoyed the beautifully cooked, fish and chips from the shop at the far end of the town - it has tables outside where one can eat their produce.
We visited the High Force waterfall near M in T. Very spectacular and reached by a gravelled path. It cost c£2 for entrance and c£5 for the car park if you arrive before 5pm - honesty box after that. Nearby the Cow Green reservoir is a lovely peaceful place with car park and picnic area which can reached by a good quality single track road. There is a nature reserve there with a walk to the Cauldron Snout waterfall.
We spent a day in Durham which was about an hour's drive away. A beautiful city set in river loop. Lots of restaurants and shops - a good mix of chain and independent stores. We walked around the peninsula on the river bank - a beautiful 2 mile walk which included all of the city's bridges. We, also, went for an hour's cruise on the Prince Bishop (£6 per adult). A bit pricey as the cruise is limited by the wears on the river but a good, humorous commentary by the 'Captain' (not the usual taped commentary!) and excellent views of the Cathedral. The Cathedral is magnificent (entrance by Donation - £4 suggested)
A very good site and a good holiday - Highly recommended.

Me and my family have just spent three nights at this caravan park and we could not of picked a better park to stay at . The park was very clean and well maintained with very friendly and helpful staff. The kids loved the play area which was right next to our tent so we didnt have to look far for them. There was also a shop on site which opened for a few hours in the morning serving bacon butties and selling all the essentials you run out , this was very reasonably priced, it then opened for an hour at tea time so you could make sure you had your breakfast things ready for morning they also sold hot dogs or jacket spuds for the tea time and had home made pies and cakes etc. All in all this was a very good caravan camping park and we are looking forward to staying again.

Visited this site as it had good reviews. The old gentlemen at reception was very friendly and helpful and showed us to our pitch. We paid £22.00 for two adults, two children and a four berth tent for two nights. Cars can be parked beside the tent. The site itself is a long drive from the road. Our pitch was next to a beck and was sloping slightly. Judging by the condition of the grass this pitch had been camped on very recently. We needed to use a couple of rock pegs. The toilets were clean all weekend, but I noticed that one of the seats was loose in the Gents on Saturday evening. The hand basins had plugs but no soap. The mens showers were spotless, but the OH had to clean one of the ladies (because of some inconsiderate oik). There are no seats or shelves in the shower cubicles, so take a bag to hang anything that you wish to keep dry. Showers cost 20p and last a lifetime. In the laundry room there are 2 washing-up sinks (with plugs) and ample hot water. There is a washing machine, a tumble drier and a good selection of books to read while waiting. There is also a microwave on a meter. There is no shop on site, but a lady calls at 9.30 in the morning at weekends to sell papers etc. You can also buy breakfasts at 30p per item (see the posters in the laundry room). The playground was very popular and well used all weekend, but quietened at dusk. The gate to the pond/pool was tied up and a new looking notice warned of deep water. Kinninvie village is a long way off and has no pub. We visited High Force, Barnard Castle & Middleton-in-Teesdale. The sheep finally stopped bleating at about 3 in the morning, just before the cows started bellowing. I thought it was supposed to be quiet in the countryside!

This is the second time we have been to this site, as you will see from my last review. But to be honest this site is a little treasure.
The toilets are always clean. The lady is always in cleaning them. Went to the toilet block at 10.30pm one night and she was in cleaning. The showers (2 of) takes 20p but you do get a long time for this. They are big and I found that my clothes didn't get wet.
There are 2 sockets in the toilet blocks for your own hairdryers/straightners. The only downside is there is no liquid soap dispensers, only one bar of soap. Hubby just said that there was no soap in the Gents loo's
The site was really full this time we went, just added to the wonderful atmosphere. It is a very relaxed site and we did not feel pressured to be really quiet. The play area is great, the kids love it and never get bored. It's one of those sites were you feel you can let your kids play and roam in safety. There is a dog walk that seemingly goes on for quite a way.
Barnard Castle town is a 5 minute drive with a Morrisons there. It is only 20 mins into Bishop Auckland with lots of shops, also a Morrisons and Asda. Oh and a Argos and Millets.
We go to the site not for the sightseeing but to be on the site as it is so relaxing.

We stayed at this site for the weekend with friends. Its a fairly large site, with lots of statics and seasonal caravans. Tents and caravans are mixed in which is lovely. The toilets are in the middle of the two main camping areas. The toilets and showers where very clean. They were cleaned morning and night. It was 20 pence for the showers but had enough time for a leisurely wash. There was two sockets for hairdryers, straightener's etc. The laundry and dish-washing were in the same area, both were well looked after and clean. There are books and plenty of information leaflets in the laundry area, I thought this was a nice touch. It was pitch were you want kind of thing, pointed in the general area. Play area in the middle of both parts. Kids loved it. There are some nice walks. People on the site were friendly and spoke when passing. There is a lady who comes at 9.30 Saturday mornings with milk, bread, papers, and sometimes bacon and eggs. It was fairly quiet after 10.30pm but didn't feel restricted to be absolutely quiet til later. Its a short drive to the nearest town, Barnard Castle. Lots of places to visit and not that far to the Lake District. We liked this site and can highly recommend it and very reasonable on prices.
