Would agree with the consensus of reviews here so no need to repeat. Lovely site, clean if small, BC is a decent M.T. With usual facilities, nice 'chippie' on your right heading down into the market place, the 'Cricketers' pub offers good pub food at a decent price, same side as chippie further down on right. Not much room for tents, mainly statics, so never going to be be particularly noisy. We use this site for access to Hamsterley Forest MTB (mountain biking) and walking, the forest entrance being around a 12-15 minute drive from the site. Camp site is accessed through a farm by the way. Would recommend the site, we will be visiting again in August all being well.

 Enjoyed this site

Plenty of residents which is often a good sign

Great access to High Force and Middleton in Teesdale

Showers at 20p a go are clean if a little tired but in keeping with the rest of the site very well kept

Adventure playground for the kids and a half decent dog walk area

Quiet and safe

Only criticism is that there is no pub or shop within easy walking distance but the answer to that is just fill up with groceries before you go and settle down for a relaxing break

We have had a 2 night stay, 2 adults 1 dog, with electric and awning, £13 per night. Showers / toilets very clean. The showers are 20p which if your quick, is enough. Lots of signs up saying no hot water, but there always was when we used at non peak times.

A Nice quiet small site. The only down side to me, was our spot was next to the small children's play area and of course children were playing with a football which hit our car, which is not the children's fault, they should leave that area for playing not tents.

Barnard Castle is about a 5 mins drive, this is where the supermarket (Morrisons), banks and take aways are. Would go back, but pick a better spot.

This is an absolutely brilliant site I would recommend to any camper suits all - trailer tents, tents, and also tourers.

We all had a brilliant time even though it rained the first day.

When we arrived we were greeted by very friendly staff who made us feel right at home.

We were situated next to my mam and dad who have a tourer but leave it there all season as they love it too.

Our electric hook up was brilliant and even got a signal from our cheap £5 aerial for the tv

The wash block / toilet facilities were immaculate and just over the path to where we were. The shop was a lovely surprise as if you cant be bothered to cook on a morning (with a hangover !) you can get a bacon buttie which we thoroughly enjoyed. Home made pies and also fresh free range eggs if you need them and other basic stuff because there's always something you forget to pack.

Overall I would give this site 20 out of 10 if I could as it is the best place we have ever stayed.

We spent a weekend on this site recently and found it to be absolutely gorgeous. The site owners are very friendly and are willing to help with whatever you need them to.

The site has a shower/toilet block which seem to be cleaned on a regular basis throughout the day. The showers are 20p to use and for this you get about 10mins of piping hot water to enjoy first thing on a morning.

The site has a playground for kids to play and is ideally located right next to the touring pitches so you can see the kids playing while you enjoy a nice relaxing time.

The road approach to the site is full of wildlife including sheep, deer and horses. So plenty to see and take in.

There is no clubhouse which means that the site is very quiet and has no rowdy campers.

Barnard Castle is about a 5mins drive from the site and had all the amenities needed. There is a family bakers and butchers, a fish and chip shop and many others. To the other end of town there is a Morrisons for your groceries.

All in all this is a gorgeous site to visit and I will definitely be using this site on a more frequent basis as it is a nice short drive from where we live.

Stayed here on the August bank holiday weekend. Nice clean site about 3 miles from Barnard Castle. The site has statics on and tourers, both been kept apart.

Pitches are a good size and a part gravel standing. Quite a few seasonal tourers on but all seemed very friendly unlike some other sites I've been to.

Shower block was small for the size of the site, 20p a shower wasn't a problem but only 2 toilets and 2 sinks. I was very surprised every time I went in there was nobody in!

A dog walk that wanders in to the woods and over a stream which is a lot better then most dog walks advertised for sites.

Nice little shop on site but only open for a few hours which is understandable.

Overall would go back.

We love this site, have been many times. The only downside is the little shop never seems to be open when we are there, which could be useful for the odd thing you have forgotten, rather than going into Barnie. Going back again for 2010, the kids love it. Toilet block adequate for needs, nice dog walk and site well kept. One of our favourite sites.

Just spent a lovely weekend at this site. Went with our tourer and friends who had a tent. Got a lovely pitch next to each other, lots of space around us - quiet and peaceful because it's off the main road and there's no clubhouse which suits us fine.
Toilet blocks for men & women were small but clean (only 2 showers in the ladies but had no problems with getting in and showered in the mornings). Playground good with climby things and swings.
Very close to Barnard Castle and found an excellent butchers in Middleton-in-Teesdale. Dog walk was a bit short, but it's fine for the early morning walk. We would definitely go back.

Mmm mixed reviews for this one, I'm afraid. Friendly reception, beautiful setting, clean site, plenty of space to pitch, good play area. The site is a good 3 mile walk into Barnard Castle where the nearest pubs can be found - but this is via a pleasant country walk over fields and quiet lanes.

On the downside hot water ran out very early and there is something a bit annoying about paying 20p for a cold shower. I know it was Easter weekend but I would usually expect to still get a hot shower by 8.30am. Also the electric kept tripping off and though campers were told what to do no-one ever came for a chat to check all was OK even after the 6th trip off of in the same evening. 2 very cold night were spent with no power for at least some of the night.

Would I go back - well we met lovely people there and about 7 caravans met for beer around a fire on the last evening - so maybe if we met up again I would consider it - but I wouldn't rush to book again just for us.

Spent 3 nights Easter Weekend in this well-maintained & quiet site 3 miles North of Barnard Castle in Durham.

Hetherick is located in a very quiet bit of countryside - Kinninvie is no more than a few houses and farm buildings. The site itself is located at the end of a long single-track but metalled road through fields which contained new lambs & their Mums on our visit.

Very warm reception at the reception, and a couple of minutes later we were shown our pitch, slightly but not unduly sloping with a woodland walk & small river behind, mainly grassy.

Although the site had experienced a heavy downpour just before our arrival, drainage didn't seem a problem. We were one of only three tents on the site; this may be due to the early visit & most tents aren't out yet, but my impression was that it attracted mostly caravans and that many of these were regular visitors.

Our pitch was next to a small but well-thought out playground with forgiving surfaces in case of falls. Children enjoying themselves have never bothered us, but the location was doubly suitable as we had our 3 year old grandson with us. 5 mins and he had a raft of friends, so he really enjoyed himself.

Older kids played football on the grass near the playground, but all qietened down at a reasonable time & we had no complaints.

A building close to reception contains lavatories and showers (incl. For disabled), disposal point, washing and washing-up room and a small shop.

The men's contained only two cubicles and two urinals, with two shower cubicles (20p) in a room behind. All were well-maintained and spotless throughout (the site was full to its 41 pitch capacity). Water went cold at peak morning shower time, though became hot again after lunch. Advice here is to go early (before 9) or wait a few hours. There were a couple of basins for washing hands/shaving etc. But no hand-wash and none private. Other than that, none of the facilities appeared overrun.

The shop opens in the morning for an hour or two, and again at tea-time. Produce includes usual foodstuffs plus a range of home-made meat & fruit pies. In the morning one can buy anything from a bacon buttie to full breakfast at very reasonable prices.

The pitches lost EHU a couple of times over the weekend - regulars say this is something to get used to and took it in good spirit. Both times power was restored in an hour or so.

The site has a very pleasant aspect with woodland bordering a pretty river and other trees bordering the fields which would provide some shelter from wind. I was able to erect a shelter for us & friends from my trusty tarp which neither attracted criticism from the ownners nor a charge. Rates for a family tent with EHU were £16 per night, grandson & friend's Wolfhound free, which I consider more than reasonable.

Overall this is a basic but tidy, friendly & well-run site which will appeal to those with small or no children (teens may be bored) looking for a quiet escape alone or with like-minded friends. It is isolated but by car many places and sights are quickly accessible.

It's only an hour from where we live so I very much hope to visit again regularly. Can't think how I've missed it all these years!
