Stayed at this site for the bank holiday and found it very nice. Considering it was bank holiday I really didn't have to wait to use any of the facilities, very peaceful site and dog friendly which is a must for me and my Labradour. Close to ashbourne for shopping and dovedale and ilam for walks. There are a couple of pubs near by which was very handy. All in all a really pleasant stay.

What a lovely site. Nice friendly welcome. Greg was very helpful in getting our van level as we were on a slight slope.
Lovely views and walk from site.
New toilet/shower block is now open. Plenty of free hot water and very clean even on the bank holiday.
Close to Tissington and Dovedale. Nice friendly pub at end of drive.
Ashbourne about a mile and a half away so a pleasant walk in the sunshine.

We were allocated what seemed to be the only Motorhome pitch on the site with stunning views across open countryside.
The pitch appeared reasonably flat but still needed levelling blocks.
We were in a Motorhome and didn't need or require to use the new toilet and shower block and the price of £22 per day was, in our opinion, far in excess of the going rate for the site.
The pub at the bottom of the drive, the Bentley Brook Inn, served excellent meals at a reasonable price – well worth a visit.
Site is close to the Tissington trail with good walking in the local area.
Dogs must be on a lead at all times whilst on site - cattle in the immediate fields and electrified fencing used.
Not bad for an overnight stop in a Motorhome but the high price far out-ways the benefits.

We stayed on this site for five nights in a tent with EHU. We had a lovely plot and nice views.
The majority of the field had permanent caravans on but everyone was very friendly.
The owners were very welcoming and friendly also.
The facilities were basic but adequate (20p for a five minute shower and 20p for hot water for dish washing). They are in the process of building new amenities so once up and running we will not be able to fault the site.
There wasn't any washing machines but there was a dryer, again 20p for each use.
The site is lovely and quiet and ideal for us with a three year old. We will most definitely be going back.

Be realistic
Location good but most are in Derbyshire
Pub at the end of the drive
Picked here over others because of location let down by the facilities
I had hoped for improvements since the early 90's Derbyshire camping but this is as Pomeroy was in 1993
Perhaps spoilt by Somerset trips but at £20 a night I had hoped for better
Pitch size small
Adjacent tent very close 2m. Example was pitched tent car car tent. Sorry not right move the cars that gaps a pitch for another tent!
Toilets smell bad but washed out daily
Showers difficult to use at best hot cold who knows
Charging for hot water to wash dishes just mean
Rubbish skip full come on empty it regularly please
Yes I know of worse sites but below average here to be had
Quiet yes but hardly peaceful when 12 tents fitted on the space I would expect 8 at max

We have recently returned from a lovely 3 night stay at Bank Top. The site is lovely with fantastic views over the surrounding countryside and we made the most of the many footpaths to go for walks.
We were met on our arrival by the owner who was very helpful. We opted for electric hook up and therefore had the option of a couple of pitches. The pitch was more than big enough for our fairly large 6 man tent. We paid £22 a night for the pitch which included the EHU and I believe there is a small additional charge for dogs (we have 2!).
Having read previous reviews we were hoping that the new toilet and shower block would be finished but unfortunately it is still a work in progress. The existing toilet/shower block is basic but clean. There is a charge of 20p for hot water but this provided plenty of water, even for me washing my hair!
There is a washing up area where again there is a charge of 20p for hot water. I would say it was more luke warm and only provided just enough to fill the washing up bowl. I personally feel that £22 a night is quite high and I would expect to as least be able to get some hot water to wash my dishes!
There are lots of walks in the area and there is easy access to the Tissington trail. We walked into Ashbourne along the trail which is lovely. The Bowling Green Inn in Asbourne is a lovely little pub. They welcome dogs and we had great meal there.
The Bentley Brook Inn at the bottom of the drive is also a nice pub. We didn't eat there so cannot comment on the food.
I did not see any particular facilities for children but as we don't have kids it is not an issue for us!
All in all, a lovely site and a great stay and we are likely to return!

We pitched two tents here for one night which we had booked by phone the day before.
Some of the reviews on here seem to paint a semi negative picture of this site, we found the opposite. Yes there are signs saying no casual visitors and yes you are monitored on arrival etc but isn’t that how it should be. Camping gear is expensive and so is ones time so why would you want to spoil things with endless visitors spoiling the peace and tranquillity.
We found the owner most welcoming, the pitch areas are well proportioned and the facilities clean and well presented.
We will return and it is highly recommended.

The campsite is in a great location and easy to find.
When we arrived at the site we met with the owner who was very friendly and took our details etc and told us where everything was.
The site itself is in a lovely location and well looked after. The showers had plenty of hot water and only cost 20p. They are in the process of building a new toilet block but the current toilets were kept clean and were fine.
The tent plots were very generous so you have plenty of room to pitch even the biggest of tents.
The views are fantastic and you have lots of great places to visit with in a short drive or walk.
A short walk out of the campsite (which is set back from the main road so is very quiet) is a lovely pub which serves food and has a lovely beer garden.
I would recommend this camp site to any one and will definitely be going back.

We arrived at Bank Top and were warmly greeted by both the owners. They offered us a lovely pitch on our own so that our son could put up his pup tent next to our tourer. It was a lovely location and the views were stunning. The camp site is quiet and really nice and the showers were fantastic - loads of hot water for 20p.
We all enjoyed our stay very much and will definitely be back for a return visit. Ashbourne is a lovely market town - easy access to the Tissington trail. Thank you for a lovely time.

2nd visit to Bank Top. If a quiet picturesque camp site required (with limited but adequate facilities) then Bank Top is perfect.
Very accommodating hosts who are very up front about the camp sites shortcomings - ie limited hot water at peak times - being addressed and new shower and toilet block to be competed for 2012 season. Did not spoil our enjoyment of an idyllic working farm campsite.
Would recommend highly.
Bike hire at Tissington trail a must-good value and excellent quality bikes available for hire. Ashbourne has many good places to dine.
