September 2004 After visiting this site once before, I decided to visit again, and I was just as pleased this time as before.
The campsite is what you'd expect - clean showers and toilet facilities, friendly owners and a flat camping field. In the washing room, there are a variety of leaflets on activities in the surrounding area which I thought was a nice touch.
This is the perfect site if you enjoy walking, and as mentioned before, it is a great base for the peak district. Ashbourne is only 2 miles down the road, as well as Thorpe Cloud and Dovedale being about the same distance away over the fields.
The only thing I can say bad about the site is that it is not really orientated towards children. The deadline for noise is 10:30pm, and there are no children specific facilities such as playgrounds. Having said this, there are many activities including walking and histrorical buildings in the local area ot keep them occupied!
Overall, a very nice site worth visiting again!

August 2004 We were at this site over the August Bank Holiday weekend and the only disappointment was the weather We found the owners to be very friendly. The toilets, showers and washrooms were all very clean. The pub at the end of the drive is nice and will let you take dogs in if you want to eat. The Coach and Horses is the Village is very nice and the food is excellant, well worth a visit.

July 2004 All the facilities were fine (not fantastic but relatively clean and okay) but the area for tents was on quite a steep slope and piches were numbered and allocated on arrival so no chance to choose what suited us best. Our pitch was relatively flat but very mole-hilly and therefore muddy - might have preferred another one next door. It rained a lot during our stay and everything was covered in wet grass clippings by the time we left - our belongings and the facilities too.
Cows along drive and in field behind us so quite fun for the children. However, there were two smouldering bonfires blowing their smoke across the tent field while we were there - one was further afield and seemed to belong to another farmer, but the other appeared to be in Bank Top Farmyard - not exactly considerate to campers.
20p charges for showers and also for washing up (never come across this before).
I am advised by local friends and the Coach and Horses in Fenny Bently and the Shoulder of Mutton at Osmaston (off A52 towards Derby)are regarded as the best pubs in the area for food.

May 2004 I have been using this site as a base for exploring the peak park for ages, and find it to be ideal. The owners are very friendly and will go out of their way to help with any problems. The showers are clean and in good condition and the washing and toilet facilities good but a little dated. D of E groups are welcomed under supervision and Grieg the owner is very interested in these activities. I would not recommend the site to campers who are looking for entertainment for themselves or young children, but if you are a keen outdoor type it's great.

13th - 15th September 2003 I'm glad I didn't read the previous reviews to this campsite before I went - or I think it would have put me off. We had a lovely weekend at this site. I do not know how anyone can say this site is unfriendly. The owner was extremely friendly, pleasant and helpful. The showers and toilets, although they may have been somewhat dated, were very clean. I do not think it is a hardship to pay 20p for a shower or for washing up - most sites we have visited charge this and I would prefer that than pay an extra few quid per day! The owner informed us that there was a charge for showers and asked us if we needed any change.
I can appreciate that it may be busy during the peak periods and that you may end up with a sloping site. We were lucky and as it was late in the season and we had the camping field to ourselves on one night! The views from the road up to the campsite are lovely and it is ideally situated for visiting Ashbourne, Dovedale and the Tissington Trail.
The pub at the bottom of the drive was really nice - the terraced patio is lovely and we had a very good meal.
I am glad that this campsite does not cater specifically for children - not everyone wants to put up with someone elses screaming kids all the time. It's nice to get away to the countryside and enjoy the peace and quiet.
All in all, we had a lovely weekend and I will have no hesitation in visiting this site again!

August 2003 Dome reviews above said that the site needed a play area well me and my sisters didnt need a play area because we found some nice friendly people on the site and we soon made friends. We all found Grieg the farmer owner of the campsite and his wife friendly and he helped us with all the little problems with the caravan. I dont agree with people saying the showers, toilets and the laundrette isnt clean it is totally the other way round they are realy clean. All I found was terrble about the site is the pub at the bottom of the drive because we got the opposite of what we asked for apart from the pub the site is great. For a nice meal try the coach and horses. by Carrie-Ann (12)

August 2003 The farm is quiet but a little cramped in space. The toilets and showers are old fashioned, but they were clean. The 20p business is a pain but understandable. There is an area of grass marked off as "private" to keep the longer stay caravaners happy, but unfortunately the tents have little room.
My main disappointment was that there was no facilities for children and they were discouraged from exploring around the farm. This was one of the reasons for picking a farm site! I am not sure that children are welcomed. The pub at the end of the drive has a lovel big lawned area and play facilities and provided good food.
Ashbourne is a nice town with a children's paddling pool in the main park (worth a dip). The market square has a great Chinese with a buffet menu which was fantastic.
Worth a week-end visit but for families there may be more child friendly options.

After reading some of the reviews of this site I wonder if it is the same one, I found this site a few weeks ago and have found it one of the best. thats why we are going back week after week. Gregg the farmer has been kindness itself to my husband and I and most of our thirteen grandchildren. Nothing is to much trouble for him.
We know there are only showers, small shop, launderette, wash rooms, but we found these really clean. as for music we were taught that you consider other people so we do not play it at unsociable hours, as there are a few old people who have seasons on this site. The only draw back to this site is the pub at the bottom of the drive, it is ok if you like bad food and flat beer but we dont. There is a great pub just up the road called the Coach and Horses where the food is great and the staff the same. I would recommend both the site and pub too anyone, and I have.

Aug 2003 I have just returned from a weekend at this campsite . the place is a farm first and campsite second. I would describe it however as cheap, clean and friendly.
To address the comments: Yes there are 20p meters but not everyone wants to add a £1 to the fee. In fact 20p gave a very good shower (which was hot) with plenty of room in the cubicles. I had a caravan on the site so I cannot comment on the tent pitching. The fields are sloping but considering this is a Peak District Farm (called “Bank Top”), what do people expect? Yes there was a skip which is obviously collected when full (this I feel was possibly bad luck on the visitor above). There are notices yes but that is due to a limited amount of parking and we all don’t want other peoples visitor’s cars encroaching on our space but even this was ignored by some people. The facility buildings are old fashioned (e.g. Overhead toilet cisterns) but were clean and well appointed (soap, paper towels and toilet paper). I did not see any plywood (I can only assume this has been repaired).
I feel that the site was good value for money. 2 weeks ago I went to a Caravan Club site for the weekend and paid about £14 more the weekend. Yes the toilet facilities were more modern but you get what you pay for. If you want 5 star facilities you pay 5 star prices.
The site did have fantastic views, friendly staff, a small shop for provisions (I liked the way they sold single eggs) and a fantastic pub at the end of the drive (with its own brewed beer).
My only other comments were the lighting in the toilets could have been better and the caravan pitching was strange - you had to drop the jockey wheel onto a small slab in the grass (but the farmer helped to get you on it). Perhaps the owners should also warn people about the 20p machines on booking so that people did have some coins in advance.
Overall a very good site and I will definitely return to it (that's if there are any vacancies).
