This was our 2nd visit to this site, although the last visit was just in a tent. We found the farmer and his wife very very helpful and really could not do enough for us.
We had 2 pitches, my wife and I then my brother and sister in law. We were pitched near the edge of the caravan field as we required electric hook-up. The views were truly amazing with some fabulous sunsets. The Owner is in the process of building an up to date shower and toilet block. They are also looking at opening up another field and running an electric supply to this for touring caravans and trailer tents/tents with electric.
Its a short walk down to Fenny Bentley and a slightly longer more challenging walk into Ashbourne which is a pleasant small market town. We walked to Ashbourne and got a taxi back for only £6, which is much easier than the hill.
There are lots of other scenic walks around the area with wonderful views all around.
I really can't recommend this site highly enough, which will be improved by the new shower and toilet block.

We viewed this campsite a couple of weeks ago as we had read the reviews and were a little concerned but decided to chance it due to location.
A very positive start to our weekend was the glorious sunshine and we had great company. Having two trailer tents requiring EHU we were pitched next to each other in the main caravan part of the site, the view was gorgeous and the other folks on the site very friendly as were the owners of the site.
There was four in our party and over the whole weekend only one had a problem with a 'cool shower' the site is very honest about this problem and notices are up asking you to stagger your showers. There are two showers for the ladies and two for the men and its 20p a shower. The showers and toilets are basis but were clean all the time we were there. We never queued for a shower but then the tent field wasn't busy so this maybe why.
On a positive note the new shower block is under way and will hopefully be ready for 2012.
This site is in a great location with a pub at the bottom of the road, there is no noise (well except for the cows!)and if relaxation is what you want I would recommend this site.
There is an indoor washing facility with pot washing area, iron etc, and yes its 20p but I'm willing to pay that especially on those rainy weekends.
We really enjoyed our stay so I would suggest you give this site a go and we will definitely be back hot shower or not!

A nice pretty site. But poor value for money. We paid £21 per night for a site that should only be charging £10 per night maximum.
The site was picturesque, clean and tidy.
The pitch itself was OK; very few stones so easy to peg out the tent.
The toilets were adequate and clean.
The shop was inadequate with a very limited stock and was only open for two hours a day.
The dish-washing area was basic and charged 20p for hot water. We used our own facility, so I can't really comment
As mentioned in earlier reviews: The showers were an absolute joke.
I can not recommend this site to anyone planning ahead, though it may be a useful site if you've nowhere else to pitch your tent on the day. There was plenty of room even on a busy bank-holiday.

A great site on a brilliant location, with good facilities, perfect for an over-night stop or a long weekend. A pub is located at the entrance to the site, which is decent and not very expensive. Not far at all from the tissington trail, with a bus service running right through the village which runs between Ashbourne and Buxton.
The chap who we spoke to was very helpful in navigating us back to the trail quickly, and had great tips for the local area - as we were hiking.

The farmer found a space for us even though we hadn't booked. It was sloping but near the toilets -useful with a four year old. The showers were a waste of time, freezing cold and low pressure- certainly not worth 20p. The best thing about this site is that it is close to Dovedale and Ilam- both worth a visit. Ashbourne was very pretty too with a good small market (Saturday). We were bemused to wake up to see several campers in kilts- apparently Ashbourne was hosting a highland gathering! Buxton was great too but very wet when we visited so we didn't explore much. We'll certainly be back to this area again.

Friendly welcome, toilets & showers a little tired but fine. Maybe could do with an extra yard between pitches but at least the ropes weren't crossing.
Good pub food just a leisurely stroll away. Fab view from the top of the site where we were. Apart from the guy opposite who managed to snore through the thunderstorm the site was peaceful and relaxed. Would go again.

Perfect location.
Good facilities - I easily showered on 20p with a shampoo and conditioner in one.
Marked out pitches - we were at the top of the field so very flat.
Plenty of toilets.
Dog friendly.
Tiny shop open for 2 hours a day for essentials but Ashbourne just down the road.
Enjoyed our stay - thank you. We would definitely invest in a map next time though so we could make the most of all the walk available.
Easy to get to Dove Dale, Tissington and the resevoir.

We had a weekend at the site - 2 couples in 2 tents. The site is in a beautiful location with stunning views all round. Unfortunately, we arrived the day after a heavy downpour, and parts of the site were waterlogged. The owners had roped off various areas on the site to prevent camping and parking in the waterlogged bits. They managed to fit everyone on, nonetheless, but this meant it was a bit squeezed, and a little less private than we would have hoped for. We were next to 2 family tents with kids who woke us up at 6am on the Saturday morning, which the parents obviously seemed to think acceptable – this certainly wasn’t my ideal way of waking up at a weekend.
The owners were very friendly and helpful, and the guy kept coming to check on us as we had to move out of what would have been our pitch because of the rain.
The site was clean and tidy, as were the facilities. There are 2 ladies and 2 gents showers, costing 20p for about 5 minutes hot water. The flow is reduced to a cool trickle if all 4 are in use at the same time. One of our group ended up spending £1.20 to get fully showered in the end. I didn’t even attempt washing my hair, as I’d have been there all day rinsing it! There's also only 1 sink for washing up, so we had to queue.
It’s close to a pub (Bentley Brook Inn) which normally does food all day, but stopped serving before we got there because there was a function on and they clearly hadn’t planned ahead and got extra staff in. We walked into the nearby village (Fenny Bentley) and had a good meal at the Coach and Horses instead.
If it wasn’t for the poor water supply (and having to pay for showers), I think we would return.

We left this site with mixed feelings. Didn't hate it. Didn't love it.
When we arrived the owners were friendly and told us where out pitch was. I think, as we had booked last minute (unexpected good weather) there were only some very sloping pitches left at the edge of the main tent field. It was steep enough to find ourselves waking up, having slid 6 or 7 inches down our camp beds- quite uncomfortable.
The toilets were dated and very, very dark, but not too cobwebby and cleaned daily. It might be helpful if the light covers were cleaned occasionally? The shower I used was very poor. I put in my 20p and twiddled with the temperature -the sign tells you to ignore the red and blue directions on the dial, so I did. It swung from a freezing dribble to a boiling dribble in the blink of an eye and by the time I managed to wash my hair under the mere trickle of water the hot water ran out.
The site was quite noisy both nights we were there. We settled down to sleep at 10.30 and a large group near us kept us awake talking and laughing loudly til very late and someone's dog kept barking intermittently all night and it's owner was shouting at it.
All that said, I think we may have been unlucky!
It's a very pretty place and the walk down to the pub at the bottom of the drive is lovely with glorious views of the surrounding hills. It's really close to the Dovedale valley for walking and a short drive from Ashbourne with all it's amenities.

What a lovely site. Its on a slope but with beautiful panoramic views across open country side. It was the weekend of the beer festival which made it a little noisy at times. But the lovely owner had pre warned me.
Toilet & shower facilities were very clean but at busy times water pressure was low in showers but again the owners do warn you of this. All facilities showers, washing up, iron, & hairdryer (not toilets) require 20p so take a ready supply.
Very helpful & friendly owners, who kept a watchful eye on all comings & goings. Ashbourne is walk able from the site (roughly 2miles)along fairly busy road. Bus runs every couple of hours for the journey back as its all up hill!
We didn't take any children so can't comment on that aspect of site.
