We had a lovely bank holiday weekend on this site. It is a small site on a working farm, with one tent field, one caravan field and some permanent caravan pitches. It is a quiet site in a gorgeous location with views over the surrounding hills. As previously mentioned, ask for a tent pitch at the top of the slope. The site is just outside Ashbourne within minutes of Dovedale. The Tissington trail and Carsington water are also nearby. The Bentley Brook pub at the end of the drive does lovely food and has a good play area for kids.
The site owners are very friendly and helpful, we were able to book at short notice and get two pitches together, and felt very safe on the site. There is no play area and people were quietly tucked in their tents by 10.00 pm, maybe cos of cold weather (and/or nice long walks!). There is a very laid back feel to the site.
The facilities are basic but clean and well-maintained, the showers are hot and powerful, and the 20p charge is enough to encourage the caravans to use their own facilities, so we never queued for showers, wc's or the potwash even though the site was full.
If you value countryside, good value, a hot shower and great friendly service over concrete, wi-fi and club rooms, I would highly recommend this site!

We have just got back from a great Easter weekend at Bank Top Farm.
This was my first camping experience so was unsure what to expect but found the site to be clean and tidy, the toilets/showers were also clean and there was plenty of hot water (20p needed for shower and pot washing).
As other people have mentioned the tent field is on a slight slope we were lucky enough to have a pitch at the top on the flat and the views were fab. The campsite is fairly quiet even though we were there over a bank holiday and it was pretty much full, it's ideal for families/couples looking for a relaxing base.
The owners of the site were both lovely and more than happy to help if you needed anything. There is a small shop for essentials although it's only a 5 minute drive into Ashbourne.
There are two lovely pubs both within walking distance of the campsite, the Bentley Brook is at the bottom of the drive and the Coach & Horses is a just few minutes walk around the corner. Very handy!
All in all had a great time and would definitely recommend Bank Top Farm.

Stayed on this site for two nights for the first time last weekend. The site is just out of Ashbourne, near the Bentley Brook pub which is very handy! Working farm so it's nice if you like to see the animals close to hand. Also some noisy peacocks in the area but fine so mind as you like nature!
Lovely setting at the top of the hill over looking Thorpe Cloud and various other Peak hotspots.
Cleaning and toilet facilities were adequate - have to remember your 20p for hot water though which always annoys me a little. However, there was no overcrowding during our stay even though there is only one potwash area.It is indoors though and there is a dryer and ironing board available for use which is useful.
The site homes some static tourers in addition to tent pitches, it's well looked after and we had a really nice time. Would definitely return. Would ask for a tent pitch at the top of the hill as there is a slope the lower down you go.
Good campsite would recommend

I booked our pitch before reading the reviews on here, and as a 1st time caravanner, who had dubious camping experiences, I was beginning to wonder what I had done. However, we found the owners to be extremely friendly, and the facilities may have been basic, but they were clean and just what you needed. A clean toilet and shower block and although you paid 20p for the showers, they were hot and gave you plenty of time to have a nice relaxing shower. Didn't get to use the pot room, or the tumble dryer or iron but they were all there and working. The site was quiet and peaceful, set on working farm land, and the people staying there ranged from families to couples old and young alike. Although the weather was damp and miserable, the site is not far from Ashbourne and within walking distance of a very nice pub, although it is up bank on the way back! We would be happy to go back to Bank Top Farm, and our staffy pup loved meeting the sheep and cows!

The farm is surrounded by beautiful views. The facilities were great. The toilets were cleaned every couple of hours and there was always toilet paper, and the kitchen was clean too. The showers are operated with a 20p coin and you get about 5mins worth of hot water. Will definitely be going back as the farm is perfectly located for other attractions; 5 minutes from Thorpe Cloud and 10 minutes from Carsington Waters. Plenty of pubs around. The farm owner was very friendly and offered suggestions of walks we could take. He even lent us his map.

What a great site, facilities good. Countryside magic, great for walking the dog, relaxing and enjoying the sunset with a glass of wine. Very friendly and helpful when things go wrong. Such as tent ripping to shred's, the owner took the time to find a suitable store on line that would be open rather than us taking pot luck! Have every intention of returning and enjoying ourselves again.

Visited this site a few years ago and was brilliant so decided we'd go back as we were in the area for 9 days, what a mistake Since we were last there new owners have taken over and have static tourers nearly all over the site so you are just fitted in where possible. Having to pay for hot water ! What is that all about ????, we have our own hot water but the campers didn't have an option
I don't think the toilet or shower block have had a lick of paint since we were last there. The couple that own the site are friendly enough and help you to your site but feel that they are only interested in the money they make, grass not been cut on our pitch, pot holes in the driveway, lack of painting and maintenance etc etc

September 2005 Spent one night here in a tent - would have been two but for the weather. Camping field part flat & part sloping but we wanted electrics so we were on a flat pitch among the caravans. Toilet block clean and adequate but I gather is to be replaced next year. Nice site, friendly owners & reasonable pub at bottom of track. Only gripe was having to pay 20p for a bowl of water to wash up - bizarre, and 20p for a shower. I would rather pay an extra 50p a night to cover this. Would definitely use this site again.

June 2005 A standard sort of campsite paid 19.00 for 2 nights, had a poor pitch near the road, however there were better pitches available, more set back into the campsite.Yes I agree with other campers comments the toilets and shower rooms (or should I say barns) were not very inviting or hygenic looking. The floors were always wet, probably comparable to a milking parlour. A good scrub would also get rid of the flys and cobwebs.
However a friendly farmer who welcomed us and also his wife. All in all a 'bog standard' campsite.

May 2005 This small, farmside campsite was conveniently located for exploring Ashbourne and Buxton and the surrounding countryside. The camping field was small, slightly sloping and with allocated pitches. We would have liked to have chosen our own.
The showers, rather frustratingly, take 20p's for hot water. My first 20p got stuck in the machine, and my partner put his in at the wrong time and had a cold shower. It seems to be a finely timed operation!
The pub at the end of the drive is in an ideal location. We forgot our camping stove so tried the food. Not the best we've tasted, but convenient nevertheless.
