Just arrived home from three wonderful days at NOONGALLAS. All I can say is FANTASTIC. The drive up to the site is very narrow and you think you are never going to get there. Do not expect 5* facilities(no electric hook-ups) but expect fantastic views. The campsite is over approx four fields, so don't worry about booking just turn up. Toilet block very basic, but hot showers every time. They have a small area in the second feild with swings for children and a barn were they hold get togethers. If you enjoy a camp fire or two this is the place to be, as they encourage it. Penzance is approx 3 miles away. As for John and Kay they are lovely too. Wished we could have stayed longer. Will definitely be back.

Just came back from a two nights stay in Noongallas, and what a wonderful experience we had. Having gone on a short tour of different campsites across the South and South West of England, we certainly have a lot of experience to compare this campsite to, and I must say it was up there as one of the best we visited.
The campsite is full of charm, from the kind welcome of the owner to the 'Pop up Shop' that appears on site during summer mornings, selling bacon sandwiches and cups of tea/coffee and other local produce. The layout of the site is well thought out, although some of the site is on a slope, the campsite has done its best to take this into consideration, as the camping is organised into small sections (terraces) or more individual sections so you have plenty of choice as where to pitch.
Speaking of charm, an 'open mic' was held in the barn area (where there are very basic facilities such as a fridge, unfortunately I didn't see everything) so that campsite musicians could participate. This was a really good idea and truly reflects the spirit of the campsite.
The toilets, although basic, were modern in design and clean at all times and split in to male and female toilets. My only minor criticism would be that the toilets were on the small side and just probably could have done with one more additional shower. But saying that, I only had to wait 5 minutes and the shower was unoccupied, so overall a very positive experience. It may be fair to point out that there are a couple of plugs there so you can charge your phone or use your hair dryer!
As a young couple, we felt this campsite was well suited to our needs. We were positioned with other people/groups of our age which was helpful, although they was a little bit of noise into the night, but we didn't mind too much. Families are well entertained with some basic play equipment. ( I haven't commented on child friendliness as we don't have any. )
In terms of the local area, I'd suggest that there are some pleasant walks, although we didn't take part in any of these, choosing to use the car instead to visit Penzance and Land's End. (The latter being a must see for its pleasant scenery. ) There is a Tescos nearby, however if you are someone who likes to take the car out a lot on holiday, be mindful of the narrow, windy road that the campsite is situated and be sure to take extra care.
So all in all, a very positive experience. I would very much like to return here in the future.

One of the nicest camping experiences we've had.
The locations is beautiful, the woods are fantastic and John and Kay are so welcoming - I've never before been given a beer by the campsite owners - very welcome after putting up our tent.
We were only planning to stay for 2 nights but ended up staying for 4. Would definitely camp here again - it is rustic/basic but that's part of its charm.
St Ives and Penzancee are both close and some wonderful beaches too. The atmosphere was very relaxed - campfires allowed, a barn with fridges and freezers plus a kettle that campers can use - it's great!

Half way through pitching our tent at Noongallas, the site manager came over and gave us each a bottle of beer. From that point, we knew Noongallas was the place for us! Amazing views from the terraced pitches, campfires in the evening, and more than enough space for children to run around and tire themselves out for a good night's sleep.
Noongallas really feels special. It's hidden away up a long single track road, and has a very welcoming feel. It's location means amazing beaches are only a short drive away, if you are feeling adventurous, go to Treen beach - a bit tricky climbing down the rocks to get to it, but it's so worth the effort! The site has it's own woods, complete with stream running through it, and also has a couple of swings and crash mats for the kids to jump around on.
The facilities are fairly basic, but are clean. We were there August bank holiday, so the site was full, and we still managed to get to the loos and showers without queueing too much.
They have a barn where they had open mic sessions at night time, but we didn't get to go, as we have a young daughter. There was also music provided by a huge group of people playing drums and bongos around their camp fire on a couple of nights, it's that kind of place!
We will hopefully be returning to Noongallas next year, though it's only open July and August - they are campaigning to get a licence to open for more months - I hope they are successful!

Wow a truly magical place. Two fields, one for families where we stayed and another for singles, couples etc. The site is very hard to find, be warned sat nav users! But after stopping a few friendly locals we managed to find it. The drive up to the site is not for the nervous driver, single track road with tall hedges either side, but lovely views glimpsed through the gaps! The road into the campsite is quite bumpy and can get muddy and the gateway past their house is narrow. But its worth the trials of getting there. Being out in the middle of nowhere is Noongallas' appeal, the views are quite lovely and on clear nights the stargazing is amazing. Word of warning though because it's up on a hill the weather can be a bit changeable. We often woke up to grey skies and drizzle only to drive down to the coast and find it hot and sunny.
The facilities for us were fine, in the ladies 2 loo's and a shower both kept nice and clean and the shower had plenty of oomph and nice and hot. It doesn't sound a lot but all the campers are considerate and didn't have to queue. There was a plug near the mirror so you could use a hairdryer or whatever if you need.
You pitch wherever you like, mostly on mown terraces, most with well used areas for campfires. We chose an area at the bottom near a hedge for shelter and the grass was a bit long, but it was out choice. I can imagine it gets a bit windy at times.
It is a steep site and getting the car down to the bottom is a bit hairy and I can imagine a few cars have had trouble, but we were fine. We unloaded and chose to park the car further up the field near the barn which worked well for us.
It's a safe site for children, most of them seemed to run around in a big pack, leaving the grown ups to have some peace and quiet. Theres a swing and some crash mats which provided hours of entertainment for our two. A 5 minute walk down the hill takes you to a wonderful, magical wood with a stream, rope swings and beautiful walks. You could quite easily spend most days exploring and playing and collecting firewood. But the surrounding area is great. Tescos is about a 10 minute drive to penzance, the beach isn't up to much but its a lively town with all the usual amenites, takeaways, launderette, shops etc. We also had days out at St Ives (so beautiful and fantastic beach) porthcorno beach which rivals any in the Med. Eden project is about an hour and worth a visit as is Lands End which we really enjoyed - do the cliff top walk its spectacular! Great fresh off the boat fish from Newlyn just down the road.
Honestly can't recommend this site and area highly enough. Having a campfire really makes our holiday complete, and at Noongallas the barn with live music several times a week is great. The campsite attracts a lot of hippies and musicians who often play bongos and guitars round the campfire - so atmospheric!
Another mention is the fridges and freezers for anyone to use in the barn, great idea as no need for cool boxes and so nice to have cold beers and wine of an evening!
If you like proper back to basics camping with great people, wonderful views and lots of great cornish attractions on your doorstep, then this is the place for you.

Noongallas has a habit of growing on you. We arrived from a more equipped campsite and although booked in for 8 nights thought we would only last a couple. However the views, relaxed ambience and campfires have a way of changing opinions.
The children love the swings and stream, and the marshmellow sessions over the campfire. Tending the fire ensures the evenings are busy!
The 'open mike sessions' in the barn was good fun, with any musicians in the camp site able to play.
Downsides are the long, rutted drive along a farm track to get there and basic shower / toilet block / washing up / drinking water facilities. There is also no shop near by. Also be wary of parking your car at the bottom of the field, as the wheels will spin!
We would return to this site if in the area.

This campsite is really beautiful and the owners were very welcoming and helpful. Our 2 week holiday with friends including small children was somewhat hampered by gales and driving rain - given how high up the campsite is it's worth bearing the weather in mind, a couple of fellow campers had to head home with broken poles. The loos and shower were kept clean and were perfectly fine, although one shower inevitably means queues when it's the summer holidays. Sadly, we also got stung by a vomiting bug which did the round of the campsite, the campfire experience was a bit compromised by stereo puking from every tent in our field - ours included. That said, we'd happily go back, the site is well laid out, the owners have recently planted some willow which when it grows in will break up the wind a bit. The atmosphere was laid back and friendly and the rainy day room with live music some evenings was terrific!

I recently have stayed at Noongallas with 8 other people and can say it is a great campsite.
The facilities are basic but very good, hot showers and clean toilet block definitely get a thumbs up from me.
The owners are very welcoming and everyone gets a beer on arrival which is brilliant :)
We experienced rain during our stay and liked the fact there was a refuge place in the barn which everyone used and there was a good community feeling there.
The barn also hosts live music from time to time (depending on the amount of people camping and john arranges this)
Electrical points and fridge were a great bonus too.
It is a fun yet interesting journey to the campsite as you have to travel a mile and a half up a single track road with 6 foot high hedges either side and the occasional cow crossing :)
The location is excellent, just on the edge of Penzance with great views and places to explore. It works really well if you want to visit St Ives, Lands End, St Michaels Mount and the Lizard (if you have a vehicle that is)
The best thing is you get all this for only a fiver per person a night.
I will definitely use this campsite again when I am back that way and if you are visiting in and around Penzance I would definitely recommend it.

If your looking to get away from everything, this is a great campsite to go to. The facilities are basic, but sufficient (Fridges for your food and plug points for hairdryers, charging mobiles.) John was very welcoming, coming over for a chat and offering beers on arrival.
We did walk through the woods to Penzance, over the river and through the country roads. Took about 50 minutes but took in some beautiful views along the way.
We did have awful weather. There were lots of musicians in the barn which got us through the worst of it! Fire wood was in plentiful supply at £3 a bag which kept us warm.
My only gripe was the single track lane to get into the campsite. Due to the site being traditionally used for farming, the dirt track was a bit worse for wear and had a lot of deep pot holes and even driving slowly, scraped the underside of the car (difficult to avoid when fully loaded with camping stuff and people!)
The site is on quite a gradient and caused traction issues when trying to get up and out of the site. Everyone clubbed together and throughout our two week stay we helped many people get up and out again. We kept our cars at the top of the site to avoid getting stuck.
I did however enjoy having a mainly wild, long grassed field with plateaus kept cut short and the people that go there are really good people. For £5 a night, its a bargain.

This site is wonderful-a chance to relax and enjoy nature and the simple things in life.
When were arrived we had a free choice of field/pitch and found them to be large, terraced and unmanicured with long grasses on borders. There was also a stone circle on the pitch ready for a campfire and wood available in the yard.
The facilities are as listed and are fairly basic but adequate. Cleaned regularly and always loo paper in the toilets!
The campsite is pretty out of the way but you are only a few minutes from Penzance in the car and all the usual amenities are there.
The week were spent here was absolutely magical for our children. The wood is real fairlytale stuff-totally peaceful apart from a burbling river; along with waterfalls, trees and rocks to climb and ropes to swing from.
Back at the campsite the children made plenty of friends and the 'crash mats' provided lots of fun.
In the evenings we mainly sat around our campfire, eating, drinking and generally chilling out.
John and Kay organised musicians for a couple of times in the week we were there. A note went on the board telling you what's happening/when so you could either come or do your own thing.
On one night a local indie/rock band played in the band and on our last night we saw a blues/folk singer in the barn. Both were amazing and seeing the band was the highlight of the holiday for our 8yr old son.
If you want nightly entertainment, playgrounds and an on site shop this isn't the place for you, but if you are looking for a totally laid back time and and the chance to give your kids a fab time away from computers and tv then come here-you won't regret it!
We have returned with bags of clothes that are dirty, grass-stained and stink of campfires but they come along with the most amazing memories of a wonderful time together at Noongallas.
