Chose this site for our seventh trip to Dumfries & Galloway and it is near the top! We were in the bottom field right next to the beach, which is a wonderful spot. A large stretch of sand when the tide is out and a lot of small beaches when the tide is in. There is a toilet block (2 toilets) at the end of the lower field with dishwashing facilities, so it is quite a long walk to the main block in the upper field, so far that some were taking their car which seemed a bit ridiculous. A well-kept site with good clean facilities, we hope to go back.

Lovely site situated in a beautiful area of Dumfries and Galloway, the bottom field is right in the shore line with stunning views over the solway firth.

Facilities are spotless, and the pitches have plenty of room, enjoyed lovely walks on the shore with the kids and dog. There are also loads of local activities to enjoy.

Fantastic site on a working farm which is a stones throw from the beach.

The beach is absolutely beautiful and I've had some lovely holidays there. It's a really popular site. Facilities are really clean.

Owners are really friendly.

Lots of beautiful scenery and lovely places to walk.

I would highly recommend Mossyard

Second visit to this site and it's even better than it used to be.

Despite covering a large area they don't have too many pitches and everyone gets more than enough space. You can pitch almost on the beach and the views are amazing.

The owners have an outdoor activity centre not far from the site but the main attractions here are the beach and the quiet. No amusements, shops or play equipment on the site itself though. If you're looking for that try Auchenlarie.

The only real issue with the site in the past was the long walk from the bottom field to the excellent facilities block on the top field. The owners have fixed that by putting a new toilet block on the bottom field.

The site sits far enough off the main road for there to be no traffic noise and site access is easy.

You do have to pay for the showers but the facilities are excellent and given the low price for the pitch this isn't unreasonable.

It's a popular site so best to book in advance.

Smallish attractive site with river running through it. There are two toilet blocks. I only used one - the old one and it was fine. There is a useful shop on site. Short walk to village where there is a shop a post office and pub. Despite tatty appearance of pub the food there was really fresh and nice.

The site had a slightly down market feel despite the stunning location and features. The games room inside the shop with loud electronic games machines didn't help although I should imagine great if you have kids.

Only stayed one night on way home and would probably use another site in the area next time.

We stayed here for 2 nights over the bank holiday weekend. We had booked the last pitch so the site was fully booked but it felt quiet and spacious. Each pitch was marked out and was big enough for a caravan with awning and car parked besides that, still leaving space between pitches. We stayed on the lower field over looking the sea. We had a sea view from our folding camper but if we had been sat outside (given better weather!) we would not have been able to see the sea because of a wall along the front. The pitches opposite us at the back of the field would have done but they were slightly sloping. We had a toilet so were ok but I could imagine for a family with young children the climb to the top of the hill would seem a little far. It would benefit from a single toilet or even a toilet and shower closer to the lower field. The site overall was very clean, tidy and well organised and professional. Little extras such as a hairdryer in the ladies, iron and ironing board in laundry room and an information room full of leaflets, posters advertising local events and facilities and a wall full of books to borrow were added benefits. £14 without and £16 with electric, given the facilities provided and the outlook was very good value.

One of the best-run sites that we have ever stayed at! Could not fault the modern and spotlessly clean facilities at all. We had a friendly welcome from the owners who live in the farmhouse on-site and farm the surrounding countryside as well. There's a choice of 'upper' or 'lower' fields, with the lower slightly further from the showers, toilets, washing-up and laundry blocks, but with direct beach access. The scenery is spectacular and the shallow-sloping beach is picture-postcard standard.

The towns of Newton Stewart (with a Sainsburys) and Kirkudbright (Co-op) are an easy drive away, and the Galloway Smokehouse nearby sells some fabulous fresh and smoked seafood and meats.

Although the site advertises a 'slipway', this is actually a roughly-cleared passage through rocks down to the sands, but due to the large tidal range, boat launching and recovery is only practical about 2 hours either side of high tide.

This is a quiet and generally overlooked part of Scotland and the area and Mossyard site are both thoroughly recommended.

One minor criticism is that making a 20p charge for 4 minutes of [albeit excellent] hot shower time seems a little on the pernickety side.

This is the second time we have been to this campsite. It is by far the nicest site we have been too, the location is fantastic (beautiful beach and views), site is small and quiet with the owners very friendly allowing you to pitch where you want.

Nice and flat grass, electric hook up for all pitches. Toilets, showers etc. Spotless and well maintained. Has a small laundry and washing room + room with tourist information, freezer etc.

Plenty to do in the area including the fantastic Laggan Outdoor Centre just over the road.

The one minor downside is (although minor) you could do with a small toilet down the lower field.

What more can you say will def be visiting again. :-)

Loved this site! Great location, right by the beach. The whole site was well kept and the facilities very good. It was excellent value for money. There are no shops within walking distance so stock up before you go. No children's play area either but they do have the whole beach to explore and enjoy. It seemed to be a popular site as was quite busy when we were there in mid June. Would definitely stay there again.

We stayed here for 2 nights at the end of the season. The owners were wonderful and helpful especially when our motor-home got stuck in the mud down at the lower field next to the beach. We moved it to drier safer ground in the top field after that but were not disappointed as we still had some lovely sea views.

The toilets and showers were some of the best and cleanest we have encountered on our travels. Its a working farm so be aware that dogs need to be kept on a lead on site but down on the beach ours loved to run around.

We'd return again out of season but some regular campers did say it can get busy in the high season.
