Fantastic site, very friendly owners, great camping right by the beach, good facilities (they have posted advice on how to get the most hot water from the showers - addressing an issue raised in a couple of reviews). Can't wait to go again.
The beach is actually more like two beaches - one beautiful shell covered beach and then a sandy beach as the tide goes out. There are rocky 'islands' accessible at lower tides which are great for rockpools.

This site has good facilities and has excellent beach access, the lower park can be quite wet ok for caravans and campers but very wet for tents. The owners do need to work on the showers as they take ages to warm up The facilities were very clean and the family disabled toilet is ideal. Could do with a small playpark for little ones
A bit of rules enforcement is needed. Like no football or ball games on the lower field our caravan took a direct hit. And please could dog owners keep their dogs on leads and remember the track on the beach is not a toilet. It would appear that a few families move their caravans in for the summer and this can be a bit of an odd atmosphere not as friendly as many sites.

We arrived here, but the site was full for the weekend (should have booked!), however an overflow space was found for us and we spent a lovely three nights here. The site is spread over 2 fields, and even when full there is still plenty of space - you are certainly not all crammed in!
Absolutely stunning views over the Solway Firth and access to the beach directly from the site - but watch that tide!
The toilet facilities were always clean and the showers good. However, the showers can take up to 2 minutes to warm up, which would be fine, but you are on a 5 minute timer for your 20p, so by the time you can actually stand under the water you have just 3 minutes left! It doesn't seem to be a problem if you follow someone else in the shower as the water has warmed up by then.
There are dishwashing and laundry facilities, and a fridge and freezer.
Would definitely go back here again - it is so peaceful and the owners very helpful.

This is a real gem of a campsite. We didn't pre-book, and we thought we would have to find somewhere else, but the owners kindly let us put the tent on a 'overflow' pitch that they keep for the case of double bookings. Our pitch was slightly exposed to the winds, but I would rather have that than pitch up in one of the many holiday parks in the area.
The site has it's own beach area, and when the tide is out there is access to a small island and a small millennium labyrinth.
The facilities are impeccable and there is an information room with freezer and fridge and books available for a charity donation.
My only criticism is that the showers cost and are on a 5 minute timer -that is fine, but unless you use the shower during a busy period, you waste 2 minutes waiting for the shower to reach a heat that you can comfortably use.
That aside, I would unreservedly recommend this site.

Moss Yard is one of the most beautiful sites I have visited. Found by chance as well. If you want you can park your caravan right next to the beach with lovely views. Although where ever you are you have a good outlook.
The beach has millions of crushed shells. When the tide is out it is very spacious. Dogs loved it. Lovely walks all round. The owners are very friendly.
A good deal of info can be found in a room near the showers along with a large freezer for storing your goods-a great idea.
I had never been to this part of Scotland before but hopefully will be back. Very beautiful countryside in whichever direction you go.
We went along to Port Patrick and watched the waves pounding in over the rocks-very dramatic. There is so much to see.

We've just returned having a fabulous warm and sunny weekend here.
Very friendly lady on arrival. Stayed on the lower field with views over the sea. Clean and well maintained site and the beach was wonderful.
Everything and more than we expected, thank you.
Try Laggan Outdoor Centre over the road, our 2 teenagers had a fabulous time.

This is an amazing site. Two fields one right on the beach. The upper fields has wonderful views over the bay. We spent two nights here in glorious weather. Fantastic clean shower, toilets and very reasonable washing machine and tumble drier. Great location and a dog friendly beach.
Owners were extremely helpful they even went out of their way to collect gas from another seller when we ran out. Can't wait to return.

As others have said, this is a great little site right by the beach. We were pitched in the lower field backing onto the beach which made waking up in the mornings and hearing the sea great (tho we heard the rain more than anything). We had very heavy rain for the 2 days we were there and the field was in a bad state, waterlogged but everyone managed to get on and off ok(ish)
As others have said, the toilet block is a quite a walk and if you get half way and get caught in a torrential downpour(as we did) there is no shelter so you're gonna get wet ! the toilets were always clean and the showers hot - tho its a pet hate of mine having to pay for a shower when you've paid to stay on the site.
There are lovely views from both fields, tho it seems only tourers are on the field with the statics, and tourers and tents in the bottom field. Most people on site had their own boat so it seems very popular for sailing etc.
The information room is very handy with lots of leaflets and books, and a huge freezer for keeping stuff in.
The owners are very laid back asking for payment any time before you leave.
There is no playground but then, with the beach so close, there's no need for one.
I would visit here again, purely for its location by the beach, but would make sure I had adequate toilet facilities to save the trek to the toilet block.

Been here for the last 10 years and gone back year after year because loved it so much!
It used to be only tents on the bottom field which has now turned into mostly caravans, a few campervans and only a handful of tents, but its still good! beach is fab especially when tides are in and you can go canoeing, kayaking, sailing and other stuff.
Toilet block is good too with daily clean to keep it smelling nice and fresh! new and improved washing facilities now in a room under a roof with 2 sinks for washing up, not just one. Also electrical facilities magazines books and videos that are available to borrow up at the washrooms.
Notice board for you to advertise things on and wetsuits available to buy. Also mossyard jumpers and postcards. Fridge and freezer to keep icepacks and those sausages for the bbq's on the beach! also allowed to have fires which is good too! lots of places to collect fire wood along the road about 2 mins drive away and plenty of things to do there as well!
We found a beach with lots of HUGE rocks on that the kids named dinosaur beach, as if they were dinosaur eggs! Forestry commission place only 10 mins drive away as well with mountain bike trails and walks for all levels of fitness.
Gatehouse is also a nice town with some nice shops for you to potter about in on a rainy day. Molly's tablet is always great for the kids and just 30p! (molly lives on site whilst camping season is around and makes it for the lifeboat trust to help raise money) people nice and very helpful.
Laggan sports centre has also been set up with archery clay pigeon shooting and rolling down a hill in a hamster ball. Sounds scary! prices very good and a very nice campsite, which is why we go back year after year!

This is a beautiful site, right on the beach (in the lower field) - you really need to have your own toilet facilities on this field, as the toilet / shower block is on the upper field, which is quite a walk away up a steep road. It is mostly statics, with a few touring vans, on the upper field, with tourers / campervans on the lower field.
The site has immaculately kept toilet and shower facilities, and also laundry facilities and in information room.
There are two 'local' towns - Gatehouse of Fleet is about 5 miles away, and has a great pub / restaurant called The Ship, which does fantastic food. There is also a mobile fish and chip van which does out of this world meals - they're a little more expensive than you would usually pay, but well worth the little bit extra. There is also a Spar shop which has a good range of stock - you can get fresh fruit, vegetables and meat there 7 days a week. There is a post office with a small gift shop and a cafe.
The visitor centre in the old water mill is worth a visit as well - again, with a gift shop selling all sorts of stuff.
Castle Douglas, the main Food Town of Dumfries and Galloway, is about 15 miles away and is brilliant. Walk along King Street and you will find all the shops you could ever want, including a hand-made chocolate shop! There is a small micro-brewery at the bottom of King Street (Sulwath Brewery) which does the most amazing beers, and which has a brewery tap open every day. They also do tours - quite short, but well worth the £3.00 per person as it included tasters of the beers. There is also a whiskey shop called 'Spirit of Galloway', which was amazing. Lots of great places to eat - anything you could possibly want!
Going in the other direction there is also plenty to see - the gem museum in Creetown, the distillery at Bladnock - take your pick! Not to mention the smoke houses in the local area, all of which do fantastic food.
We had a fantastic fortnight there, doing different things each day. The weather was good, if a bit windy at times, and the beach was fantastic - there's an incredible area to explore when the tide's out.
The only two things I could possibly complain about were the showers, which you had to pay for, but for 60p you got a decent length of time for a shower and hair wash. The only other problem was that the bottom field nearest the sea did get a bit wet after heavy rain. However, if you need a hand to get the van either in or out, you can ask for the tractor to come down and tow you out - this only took about 10 minutes.
This was a great site, run by genuinely lovely people, who make their priority ensuring you have a good time. Put together with the local area, you can have a fantastic holiday here. I would give this an A+ rating.
