This was our first visit to the Dumfries & Galloway area and we're so glad we chose Mossyard. We were on the lower field directly overlooking the beach and sea. We arrived in good weather and the view is unbeatable. We were very lucky with the weather as it was dry, warm and sunny apart from one day.

The majority of the touring pitches are in the lower field and closest to the beach. I think there were only 5 pitches in the upper field which also has several static caravans. The site also has luxury lodges for hire but all units are nicely spaced out allowing for space and privacy.

The shower block and laundry room are located in the top field but it is only a short uphill walk. There are 2 toilets and 2 dishwashing sinks contained in a wooden clad unit on the lower field. Showers are chargeable at 20p for 5 mins so stock up and save your 20ps!

The site was very well kept and maintained and the toilets were also very clean. It was a very relaxing and quiet site although we did have an issue over our 2nd weekend. A group of friends turned up and were playing loud music and their children took over the large space between the pitches and played ball games close to ours and other pitches. Now, don't get me wrong, people are entitled to have fun but please be considerate of others and general rules.

However, on the Saturday evening the music was still going at 10. 15pm and a ball was kicked at our camper. As their website stated quiet after 10pm my OH phoned the owners and to give them total credit, the guy came straight out and then all was quiet (thankfully). We understand that this is a rare occurrence and it certainly wouldn't deter us from returning to this lovely campsite.

Fantastic location, very clean toilet blocks and wash areas. Easy access water from pitch.

Lovely spacious pitch, unfortunately for first few days the weather caused lots of problems (can't be helped)

Owners helped by supplying some pallets to give us some easy access to our tent.

Will definitely look at returning again

I love this place, pure serenity from turning off the main road, playing on the private (safe) beach to long evenings watching the sun go down.

Bliss.

What a lovely site. We were on the lower field with great views across the bay. Big pitches and no restrictions on how to pitch as long as the unit is between markers. Showers were on the top field and a bit of a hike, 20p. Not too clean at certain times, wet suits cleaned in there. Toilets on bottom field not always in use, but used van facilities. Other visiters have been going for years, but so friendly to 'outsiders'. Laggon outdoors across the road is part of the site, brilliant breakfast, views are fantastic. Zip wired, and segwayed. This is the first site that we have rebooked as we were leaving, already booked for next year

Wonderful place. I hadn't booked but they had a couple of pitches spare, right by the beach. It's probably best to ring first or book in advance. Reasonable price and with adequate, well-kept facilities. Very quiet place, mostly level grass pitches with EHU if wanted. Plenty of space around the pitches. Lots of open grass areas. I would definitely go again.

A lovely site in a great location, we liked it very much and Harry the Hound was in his element. Easy access, don't worry about the single track road, there is room to get by on the grass if necessary.

It would be good if there were showers and a CWD on the lower touring level, both of these are on the top site which is mainly for statics, although there are a few touring pitches.

Don't know if anyone has mentioned the well stocked shop at Auchenlarie caravan park next door, no need to to Gatehouse of Fleet for supplies.

The only problem, and not the fault of the site, is that the nearest fuel seems to be at Kirkcudbright, nearly 10 miles away. There is also a small Tesco here and it's an interesting town. Also try the drive around from Borgue, which will take you past some lovely beaches.

We paid £19 per night, well worth it for the great location.

A gem of a campsite next to a sandy beach backed by hills. The facilities are modern and well maintained in 2 levels with some well spaced permanent units. Staff were very pleasant and helpful. It has good access off the A75 and is handy for local towns and Galloway forest for hiking/walking. The dogs were very happy!

Wow. Don't usually review but this place is awesome. If you want a bar, restaurant, pool, entertainment forget it. If however you want the most stunning setting, great views, great location, fab (if limited number of facilities) then this could be for you. The coastline and beaches here are like a mini Abersoch without the people, truly stunning. The people running are lovely and helpful. Didn't find a pub but didn't need one. Will return

Been here a couple of times, previously in a tent and this time in a van, and I love this site! Both times it has been during term time so it has been quiet. The bottom field is right next to the beach where there are toilet facilities and a wash-up area. Showers are up at the main site. There is a hairdryer available. Facilities are clean and the main block also has washers and a room with information, freezers for storing food and re-freezing packs, some stuff you might want to buy to further enjoy the beach and a library of books. As it was not busy we were able to pitch with good distance between us. When the tide is in there is a sheltered stretch of water ideal for swimming - weather permitting! At low tide there are big stretches of sand for your dog to gallop around on. The outdoor activities centre near the site has a cafe that does lunches etc. For evening meals you would probably need to drive into Gatehouse or Kirkcudbright. Will be back!

I just loved Mossyard. It's a serene little gem of a place with access straight on to an interesting, attractive, safe and clean beach.

We stayed for 5 nights and were lucky enough to bag a seafront pitch. We watched the tides fizz and foam in and out of the expansive bay, while our kids took full advantage of the paddling, building, climbing and exploring to be done there.

The facilities were spotless with toilets and dishwashing close at hand. The showers were a bit of a trek situated at the top end of the upper static site, but that's ok. We had time to spare.

This area of Dumfries and Galloway is an ideal location for those looking for a relaxing coastal holiday. There are a few local attractions around to visit, while great food and boutique shopping can be found in the pretty and nearby Gatehouse of Fleet.

There is also a handy Tesco in Kirkcudbright as well as a cracking chippy at the harbour.

Mossyard is a peaceful sanctum in which to get away from it all. Take your book and some wetsuits for the kids, put your feet up with a Pimms and watch those waves roll in.
