Stayed for 7 nights in July 2015 with partner and daughter.

What a fantastic site, cannot recommend it enough. We will be going back.

Welcome was excellent and the receptionist was friendly, helpful and spoke perfect English.

Site is well laid out with pitches away from the main activities but still well serviced. Pitch was a decent size and we were able to get the RV in 'length ways, thus freeing up the front of the pitch totally and creating a more open feel. That said the pitch was such a size this wouldn't have mattered if we couldn't.

Facilities were very good; modern block with laundry, washing up and ladies and gents showers/toilets with plenty of facilities to choose from. The site pool and bar area were excellent. The activities were beyond expectation and kept my 10 year old constantly occupied. There is a shop on site and this is very well stocked. The restaurant was always busy so didn't get the opportunity to use it, the take away was ok.

We hired a car whilst here and spent the afternoon on the Velorail - worth it for the novelty and exercise! Also visited Puy du Fou - absolutely amazing and well worth the visit. At 30 euros it is incredible value as well.

Will undoubtedly return.

We spent a lovely fortnight at La Garangeoire in August. The weather was mostly warm and sunny, but we did also have a few rainy days and very cool nights (more on that later). Our pitch was grassy and fairly flat, in one of the terraced areas to the north of the main toilet block. Our pitch was long and narrow though, which meant it was a bit of a squeeze to get our day room tent (kitchen) up in the place we wanted, but it worked out ok in the end. Some pitches have much more shade than others, so it's worthwhile asking when you book. The site is very quiet at night, which was perfect for us.

The facilities on site are superb. All were clean and well maintained. The kids loved the pool and slides, play park, table tennis, go karts, pedalos//canoes etc. It is a bit of hassle to get a sunbed at the pool sometimes, but we found that if you just hung around for a few minutes or timed your arrival just right (eg just before lunch) then it was easier. The on site restaurant was excellent, a much higher standard of food than most uk high street establishments! The café gourmand is something not to be missed. We also found the pizzas from the takeaway to be very nice. The mini market is basic but has most of the emergency supplies you'll need - including a small 'English' section and a large wine section!

Throughout the site the staff are very helpful and polite. The reception staff are there as a fountain of all knowledge. I saw one of the team outside helping a uk car owner get his car towed to the garage for repairs. We saw the owners out doing jobs, Anne helping out at reception, Eric cutting hedges. Their pride in the site is there for all to see.

There is a good selection of beaches nearby depending on whether you want calm waves/big surf/rock pools. Most have beach cafés and toilets. St Gilles and Les Sables d'Olonne offer a big seaside town atmosphere, both with large marinas, little shops and the usual ice cream and waffle sellers! These towns make good places for an evening out too.

In all, we had a great time, but were a little disappointed with the cold nights (10 degrees) which meant it was too cold to sit outside the tent at night, once the kids had gone to bed, with a quiet drink. This is usually our favourite part of camping, so I feel I have missed out! The cold evenings also meant that the garden behind the site bar was completely empty every night and everyone was crammed onto the inside space. Each night we gave up trying to get a table. People came at 6:30and didn't leave until 11. 00. The staff said that this was the worst August they had had for several years, and as we have camped in the area before we had to agree. We are hoping to go back next year, so fingers crossed for warm evenings.

Just left after 8nights on premium tent pitch-sites is very good and has bar/restaurant/shop/pool as you would expect for 5 star site. However would not pay extra for premium pitch again-there were much bigger pitches on site and fridge hire is available.

Also had to pay 60 euro deposit which we could not see mentioned in the paperwork anywhere.

The atmosphere of the site changed dramatically with the arrival of the retires and their caravans / motorhomes - most seemed to be return visitors - all very friendly and informative. Puy du fou cinescenie spectacular and worth the hours journey back at 1am!

Stayed at La Garangeoir for two weeks in July with my wife and three of our children aged 17, 16 & 14.

The site is kept immaculately clean and boasts a large range of activities for the younger age group, 5-12. That said, my children love this site and this was our third stay in as many years. The restaurant has a limited menu, however, they have introduced a specials board which does vary the menu. It is nice to book an outside table for one night whilst you are there and enjoy the atmosphere.

The staff are all very friendly and generally all speak English. The toilet/shower blocks are very clean with plenty of hot water.

The site does get very busy in July/August as it is very popular, however, it does cope well.

It is approximately 5km from a beach and 5km from a supermarket.

They do arrange entertainment at night and you can sit in the garden behind the bar in the sunshine to watch.

I would definitely recommend this site to anyone, however, if you want a beach holiday then you would have to travel every day.

Another excellent holiday at La Garangeoire, obviously helped by beautiful weather. Big pitches we have a water and drainage pitch, premium pitches also have bbqs and table and chairs and I think these pitches are even bigger. All the pitches are separated by hedgerows. I know several people mention not enough toilets in the main block but I never had to queue. There are at least 4 toilet/shower blocks all with laundry facilities.

There is a lot of entertainment for children and there is always an evening event from disco to quiz night and Creperie evening. There are yoga classes, French classes and lots more. The site has swimming pools but we don't use them, they look really good but are very busy and you cant always get a sun bed

The site is a little remote with the nearest town about a mile and half away where you will find a lovely Patisserie, but there are some beautiful beaches within half hour drive. There is a big supermarket within 20 min drive and the on site shop has a good choice of Provisions. There are 2 bars and an excellent takeaway. Also an ice cream counter with more than 20 flavours to choose from. There is a restaurant but we didn't go this year, last year we thought the portions were very small. It is a very friendly site and we always get chatting to other campers and meet up with regular visitors as a lot of people return year after year.

Definitely a place to revisit.

We stayed at La Garangeoire over the May half term for 2 weeks. We booked direct in a 3 bed pergola which was immaculately clean with plenty of storage space. Our only criticism was the bed which was very uncomfortable and for which I'd take a mattress topper next time. We were also positioned next to a big playing green which my 4yr old and 6 yr old loved.

We all thought the site was great, plenty to do, very friendly, helpful staff and nicely busy. The supermarket in La MotheAchard was quite expensive but there is a lidl if you explore & don't want to pay so much.

As other reviewers have said, the pool area is quite small for the number of people using the site- it was very busy and the site wasn't full. Wouldn't stop us coming back though - we loved it. If you can, cycle down to the lake and find the creperie, it's well worth it.

We stayed at La Garangeoire for 2 weeks from 18 August. We stopped over night on the way down at Le Chanteloupe and the drive from there was about 4 1/2 hours including stops and a couple of traffic jams as 18 August was a black day on the French travel calendar. Although not as bad as I expected it’s always worth avoiding these days if possible.

The pitch size was very good and hedged on three sides which gave privacy but people didn’t tend to talk to each other as much. We fitted Caravan, awning plus annexes either end, Gazebo and car and still had plenty of space to sit out with choice of sun and shade. I would say most pitches are big enough to fit this set up.

We were in the main camping area and in the Ladies there were only four toilets 5 showers and about 6 sinks two of which had hairdryers and four had soap dispensers. This is not nearly enough as I nearly always had to queue for a shower and often had to queue to use the toilet at peak times. The toilets were mostly clean but got a bit dirty through so much use. There were other blocks around the park but they were not close enough to us.

We went to a welcome meeting which really was more about the campsite and what was on offer and what not to do (very politely explained). It would have been nice to have been given more information about beaches and the local area, things to do.

The pool was very nice and extremely busy the first week but quietened down a lot the second week, possibly due to the fact that it was the last week of the summer holidays and lots of family’s went home and more couples were arriving. It was also very clean as you are not allowed food or drink at the pool but I was able to take a bottle of water in. But there is a bar adjacent to the pool where you can buy ice creams, drinks and food. We ate in the restaurant once but wouldn’t recommend as portions were small and there was not much choice of main courses. The ice creams and desserts were lovely though.

We went to two beaches about 15 minutes drive away, des Dunes which was a lovely open sandy beach popular with surfers and had life guards and two toilets, and La Normandelière which was on the same stretch but gentler as it was protected by rocks on either side. There was also a saltwater lake/swimming pool behind this beach which was popular for families with children

Overall the campsite had a nice feel to it and there are lots of activities on offer although we didn’t really use any of them this time. We went fishing a few times at one of the lakes and you can buy bait on site, although he’d run out of maggots he gave us sweetcorn which was very successful. We went up for the quiz night but as the weather had been bad it was undercover and there was not enough room for all the people that wanted to do it, and the same the following evening when we wanted to go to the bar for a music act. They don’t seem to be geared up for bad weather.

I would go La Garangeoire again but I think I would like to go more out of season when it’s a bit quieter. I also think I prefer a campsite a bit nearer to beaches and towns as it was quite a drive if you wanted to go anywhere even the Supermarket is 10- 15 minutes drive.

We have just returned from a 2. 5 week stay at La Garangeoire. The weather was beautiful the whole time apart from one or two short lived showers.

Generally I would rate this campsite very highly. There were lots of activities we got involved in such as football training, kids club, archery, free pedaloes, family olympics and my favourite- Zumba! We did the crepe night twice. The pools were lovely and warm- my only gripe here is that they were packed and there weren't enough sunbeds to go around. The evening entertainment was mostly good- the Vendean night was fun. The disco night was a let down- the 'kids' disco just involved grown up songs with actions and my daughter aged 7 was disappointed as was hoping to do the usual kids disco songs. The adult disco then went on until past 11 and could be heard across the campsite.

I was impressed with the night watchmen who did keep things quiet after 10pm away from the bar and one night at 10 moved a group of teenagers away from the table tennis tables near the tents.

The staff were all very friendly and they put little signs up in reception wishing Happy Birthdays- my son was 9 while we were there and was delighted when his name appeared.

We were in a good pitch very close to the toilets and table tennis in the camping field. The pitch was big. My largest gripe with the place was the toilets. There are lots of toilet blocks scattered about but the block in the middle of the vast majority of the campers was insufficient. There were only 4 ladies toilets and with the number of people using them did not stay clean for long and quite often I had to queue. There is just about enough showers and loads of sink cubicles for some reason. There were other toilet blocks that were cleaner but a bit of a trek away.

The playing field and park were great and it was nice to give my children- aged 7 and 9 the freedom to cycle to and fro on their own. Also there was a welcome meeting where the owner talked about safety and everyone was very careful in cars as there were little kids on bikes and scooters everywhere.

The location was great- just a short drive to some lovely beaches and little towns.

On balance I would recommend this campsite. The main campers toilets need cleaning more often in high season but that wouldn;t put me off returning.

We have been to La Garangeoire for the past 15 years and love it there. Our children were young when we first went there but now its just the two of us. Many familes are repeat visitors whether it be with own touring caravan/tent or staying in one of their lodges or a static caravan. We have always found staff very helpful especially in the reception and bars. There are ample toilets and showers which are cleaned at least twice a day. There are a couple of swimming pools and slide, children's play area and good entertainment programme for children, grant you it is busy in the summer and children wizz around on bikes so you have to be wary driving on the site but that's down to the parents. The site owners do not tolerate bad behaviour by children or adults and culprits are spoken to. The site shop has all the essentials you would need and the take away is excellent, the restaurant is worth a try but don't expect huge platefuls of food. The nearest town is St Julien about 2 miles away, it has a small convenience store and an excellent bakery. Several beaches within a short drive away and several large supermarkets 15 minutes or so in the car. We go again in July and are really looking forward to meeting up with other regulars again.

Castels Campsites are always excellent in terms of facilities, quality of life and value for money.

We are a retired couple. We could not really fault la Garangoire. The sites are well-tendered and ample in size (no Kawanisation here!); the management was excellent: Mme. Took personal interest and all the staff greeted us with natural smiles and were very efficient; the estate offered interesting walks; the all-important 'sanitaire' was efficient and very clean as was the pool (though we wondered if it was heated to 28o). The restaurant was first class with friendly and efficient service as indeed was the take-away. There were ample activities and we particularly enjoying the wine tasting in the 'chateau'. The only thing lacking was daily aqua-aerobics.

The weather was disappointing - but no better place to be in such circumstances
