This was a fabulous site, beautifully laid out with pretty flowers and the owners château the centre piece. We travelled down from scotland via the overnight ferry from st malo and arrived in under three hours from the ferry port. We stayed with eurocamp in a mobile home which was perfect for us with our young children aged 1 and 4. The mobile home pitches were generally separated with hedges, I think the touring caravan and tents also had similar hedges and good size pitches.
The pools were quite busy even in June but were fine for us. The playground was sandy and next to all the eurocamp etc activity tents. There were also trampolines and pony rides. You take the pony yourself which my 4 year old loved so much. The photo I took of her on her pony with her dad is still one of my favourites. You can take the ponies down to the lake and walk through the forest. My husband enjoyed some rare quiet time away from the kids fishing on the lake.
The shop is small and has all the essentials and the take away next door was excellent with queues every night. It was worth the wait. The bar area was lovely and spacious and not too expensive. They have a large grassed area outside the bar with parasols and a bouncy castle for the kids.
This was our favourite site and its superiority over nearby sites is reflected in the prices - its expensive but understandably so.

On the positive side the pitches are huge and hedged so relatively private. The shower block we used was cleaned three times a day and were just lovely. I liked the location and the area, the atlantic beaches were just great - taught my two boys to body surf and deal with waves which they have never done before. Boys also liked the two slides in the separate pool. The pool was nice but in my view a little tired.
Prime drawback for me was that 90% of the visitors to the site in the summer holidays are British. I would have preferred a site with a far greater mix of nationality, after all we were in France and not the UK.

This is the by far the best camp site we have ever stayed on. We went for 3 weeks in August, the camp site was full but even with that taken into account, the site was always lovely and clean, toilets and shower blocks plentiful and spotless. Our 2 children aged 8 and 11 both loved this site, they made great friends (most of the visitors are English). There was so much to do (if you wanted to join in) that the children were always busy - either horse riding, swimming, football camp, table tennis, tennis and kids club - I had time to read 4 books (unheard of!). The staff are really lovely friendly people, who speak perfect English but really appreciate it when you try with their language. If you go anywhere for the beach please try Les Sables, its a beautiful beach and not busy up until approx 3pm. We used our body boards and my daughter actually found a starfish floating on seaweed whilst she was swimming.
The whole place is fantastic - if you need any further proof - we never go anywhere twice - always thought that the world is too big to return but this place is the exception - I have already filled in the booking form for next Summer!

We spent 3 weeks at this site, and this is definitely what we thought camping/caravanning was all about when we started out.
So much to do on this site it's difficult to know where to start, but it boils down to the fact that our two kids (8 and 11yrs) were both kept busy for the whole 3 weeks. There is a full programme of entertainment, but it is entirely up to you whether you take part or not. Just as an idea, you can fish the lakes, hire (very good quality) pedal cycles, play petanque on the onsite 'pitches', take part in quiz evenings, swim in the pool, ride ponies, play tennis, learn archery, go out on the lake in canoes or pedalos, play table tennis and the list is much longer!
The touring pitches on the site are just far enough away from the bar & restaurant so that any noise from them is not intrusive when they have the odd late night function.
The onsite takeway serves decent snacks, and the restaurant is a 'must visit'.
Other reviews just say all I would like to!
However, just a couple of other things that might be useful.
The onsite shop is handy, but for extensive shopping go to either Mothe-Achard (5 mins away) for a SuperU supermarket, or to Aizenay for a HyperU. Both these had diesel at 96 cents when we were there (compared to 112 everywhere else). There is a Carrefour at La Roche Sur Yon (about 15mins) but slightly more expensive for food, although better choice.
For a cracking day out, go to the lake at Apremont (turn right out of site, go through Chappel Hermiere, up to a T junction at dual carriageway; go straight across and the village of Apremont is about 10 mins along that road. You cross a river as you go into the village-turn right immediately afterwards but don't park on the right with everyone else. Instead carry on about 200 yards and you can swim in the lake as well as ride pedalos and motor boats).
Alternatively the beaches at Bretignolles Sur Mer or Les Sables D'Olonne are definitely worth a visit. Be warned though - you'll have the beach practically to yourself until about 3.00pm, and then the locals will arrive en masse!
The port of St Gilles Croix De Vie is a fantastic place to walk around, and has a nice little market if you like that sort of thing!
All in all, a fantastic site, huge pitches, clean facilities, lots to do, friendly staff, plenty to see locally and can't think of a bad word to say about it! We'll be back!

Visited at the end of May 2009 and had a delightful weeks holiday which was helped by excellent weather.
Our caravan provided by Eurocamps was clean and well equipped and the Eurocamp staff were friendly and helpful.
All the facilities at the Garangeoire were as stated on their website.
We hired bikes which were brand new and good quality for 8 euros each per day. We cycled around paths on the Lac Du Jauney and would recommend this as a good day out. Take a picnic or call at the Creperie overlooking the banks.
I went fishing in all three lakes belonging to La Garangeoire. Two out of the three are very picturesque and even the most inexperienced angler will catch small fish using sweetcorn, worms or maggots available from supermarkets. Unfortunately I couldn't get past the small roach whatever bait I tried.
I would recommend this site. Its in a beautiful location 10 or 15 minutes from beaches and only five from a supermarket.
We all made use of the quality pools and the bar area overlooking is very nice if a bit expensive.

We visited this site this year. We found it to be a pleasant site, nice pool area, bar and restaurant and shop. Very quiet after 10pm at night, ok for the oldies not much for teenagers. The school holidays were over when we went and therefore no teenagers about, only couples and families with very small children. Enjoyable stay, met some nice people, locals and Brits. Lovely countryside setting, nice walks. Altogether a very enjoyable holiday

This is a lovely campsite, very clean, the pitches are very spacious, plenty of toilets / showers. We went with our 14 year old daughter and my Sister her husband and their 2 daughters aged 12 & 15. I would say after being there for 2 weeks that this campsite is designed for families with young children. There was nothing specifically aimed for teenagers to do, they all seemed to meet up in the bar on an evening. We joined in the family olympics and all the children we probably under the age of 10. There wasn't any evening entertainment apart from an occasional group playing in the bar. I would recommend this campsite for families with young children as they seem well catered for, but possibly not for teenagers !

Visited this site as our daughter was working there for the summer. We didn't have very high expectations prior to our visit, but left there after a most enjoyable week, pleasntly surprised. Pitches are large and well spaced, the facilities are first class and well maintained, the atmosphere is friendly, and for families there are plenty of activities available on the site. As keen walkers, we were able to find plenty of enjoyable walks in the immediate locality, which also has many tracks for cyclists to. Our memories of a previous visit to the Vendee many years ago did not encourage a further visit. However, if one or two of the well-known coastal resorts are avoided, there are many worthwhile and interesting towns and villages to visit in the area, with strong historical and cultural traditions. If you are thinking of staying in the Vendee area I do not hesitate to recommend La Garangeoire.
