This was our second visit to this site this year. Our friends, who have a tent, came with us for their first time. They were as impressed as we were the first time and can't wait to come back.
Sue and Gary are very friendly and run the site very efficiently.
The toilets and showers were really clean even though the site was full! (Unlike others we've stayed at).
We ate at the Old Down Inn on the Friday evening and the food was delicious and very reasonably priced.
We don't venture off on any trips but just sit and chill out with a book or magazines. Although on Saturday we did have family come and visit us for a barbeque. (There is a small charge for this).
Another relaxing weekend here and already looking forward to our next visit.

This was only our second stay at a touring park and we were very pleased with the choice we made! We chose Old Down Touring Park because we wanted to spend the weekend at longleat and bath and it was perfectly situated for both of these.
When we arrived we checked in at the site office. The park operates a one way system for vehicle traffic and access is gained through electric gates which you are given the code for on arrival.
We were held up in traffic on the M5 and therefore were going to be arriving late however this was not a problem as we telephoned and kept them aware of the situation.
We had booked a pitch with electric hook-up and were shown how to get there on arrival. Even though it had been raining heavily all day the camping field area was not waterlogged or too soft. It was a nice level site with trees surrounding it.
We were in a pitch close to the toilet/shower block which was very convienient and we were never disturbed by other campers.
The toilets appeared to be very recently decorated and were very clean. The mens had shaving mirrors by all the sinks and the womens had a hairdryer (20p per go) and full length mirror however we had electric in our tent so didn't need it. There were also two washing-up basins for cups/plates etc with draining racks on the walls. There was always hot water available!
There is a small shop on site stocking the basics as well as plenty of maps/tourist information. Sue was very helpful with any problems or questions even checking information for people on the internet and copying maps for people to take away on their walks. There was also a small freezer in the shop for campers icepacks.
Overall we had a lovely weekend at 'Old Down Touring Park'. The staff were excellent and the facilities were lovely and clean. We will definitely be looking to come back again in the future.
* The pub on the opposite side of the road (which was recommended to us on arrival) is well worth a visit. Food was excellent with large portions and reasonably priced! *

We used this site as a jump off point for the Priddy folk festival and it's location was spot on.
The site was great clean, level and considering the amount of rain which had fallen it was reasonable mud free.
The facilities were always clean (even with the mud) the on site shop sold all non perishable items you might forget and the Co-Op 5min down the road everything else.
The wardens could not have been more accommodating we were very late arriving (the drive from hell) but they remained available until we arrived.
As we were off to the festival we did not visit the local area but it seems to have a lot to recommend it. We will be returning next year to explore.

Stayed here for 3 nights over the royal wedding weekend.
No problems booking in despite arriving later than anticipated (7:15)
Guided to selected pitch with hookup and left to own devices
Site manager came round after 45 mins to check all was well.
Level well kept campsite with minimal biting insects despite being near the trees surrounding the site.
Clean heated toilet block with flowers on the window sills (male and female sections).
Showers were sized to allow 'dry' area once emerged from cubicle, hooks on door for towels and clothing.
Entire block cleaned thoroughly and regularly during our stay.
Small shop within reception stocking locally sourced essentials (eggs, milk, bread).
Freezer facility for ice packs and exchange ice packs available.
BT Fon wireless network available courtesy of the business broadband within the office; although signal strength was very low. Check before using as a courtesy to owners.
The nearby Old Down inn provides good ales and the food is recommended by the locals and rightly so. Food is the typical pub food price thought the quality is very good. Specials run on a daily basis.
Overall a good site that is convenient for most of the tourist centres of Somerset (Wells, Glastonbury, Bath) and is situated within easy reach of some superb mini-walks and for that matter the longer walks like the East Mendip way.

This is the first time we've visited this site and certainly won't be our last.
We found the people who manage it very friendly and helpful. The Old Down Inn just across the road is a lovely friendly old pub.
On site the toilet and shower blocks are immaculate. There is a large grass area in the middle where ball games can be played.
We came Thursday evening and it's now Monday we're sat here in the sun and don't want to leave. We've had a great stay.

This is a lovely site and we have visited twice in the last 12 months. It's now under new management but the new guys are friendly, helpful and informative about the area.
The toilet block is very clean and has recently had an overhaul with a lick of paint. Hot, electric showers and flowers in the ladies. What more could you ask for?
A lovely site!

The entrance to the campsite was quite hard to find as the signs were quite obscured.
Reception was not manned but there were 3 mobile numbers to call and we had to call all three and still no answer, but this was resolved after about 10 minutes.
The campsite is nicely landscaped with some hardstanding pitches.
The toilets and showers, especially the showers need to be replaced. I thought they were really run down and chose not to use them on our second day.
The pub opposite the campsite I think called 'Old Down' is 17th century the food and atmosphere here was excellent.
The site is very convenient for Glastonbury.
I would think twice about booking here again.

A beautiful site in a beautiful part of the country. We booked this the day before we arrived and there had been a mis-communication between the person who took the booking and the person who allocated pitches, meaning there wasn't a hookup available for us when we got there. This wasn't a problem though as we were made to feel extremely welcome when we arrived and alternative arrangements for power was made for us for the first night which was fantastic.
We were travelling with my parents and their touring caravan and we were free to pitch both caravans to suit our communal needs, which isn't always allowed by other sites.
The site is surrounded by trees and hedges, with a huge area in the centre for children to play football, fly kites, throw frisbees etc. It was level and very well drained and we had no issues with mud or anything, even with cars driving over the field when it rained.
There are several moveable picnic benches dotted around the site which we were free to use for our personal use. I like this!
The toilet block was fairly basic but extremely clean and well maintained. The male showers were being refurbished while we were there so there was only one shower for a few days, and the water was turned off for spells whilst the plumbers were working. The washing up facilities were outside, but covered and kept clean.
The only drawback is that the the site is right on a busy road and the traffic noise was a bit intrusive during the day. At night it was only when motorbikes screamed past that it was a problem!
Lots to see and visit in the area (Cheddar Gorge, Shepton Mallet, Glastonbury, Wells, Bath, Bristol etc) and we thoroughly enjoyed staying here. We will definitely be returning and would probably use this site again.

We stayed 2 nights at this site in August and it wasn't too busy. We hadn't booked yet they still had space for us with no problems. There was no-one around when we arrived so we just pitched up where we wanted. The grass area is lovely, the tents were round the edges which left plenty of room for my kids to play in the middle. The site was nice and tidy although like some others have said you do have to drive past some stored caravans some of which are a bit on the tatty side.
The toilet block was in the process of being refurbished meaning that 1 of the 3 ladies showers was out of action, my son tells me that the mens showers were also out of action. That said they were still very clean. We had no problem with the water pressure but there are signs around that say the pressure can be low when busy. There was plenty of hot water whenever we used it. The washing up sinks are ok, the bowls are a tad on the small size but adequate.
The shop/reception isn't manned but all you have to do is ring the bell and someone will come. There didn't look to be much in the shop but we could use the freezer for cool blocks for free. The 3 members of staff I came into contact with were all very helpful, my only annoyance was that when I phoned I was told the cost was £15 per night but after we'd pitched up and someone was around to open up the shop I was told that the cost was actually £18. Which as we were on a budget was very annoying.
Overall it was a nice site just a little pricey in my opinion.

We have just spent a night at this campsite and found it very pleasant. It's small and attractive, with tents and vans around the edge of a well-cared for field. Mature trees around the perimeter give it the feeling of a village green. There are no pitches marked up, so you can choose your spot.
Toilet block was clean and showers hot, though water pressure quite low. There are three showers in the ladies and, I think, four toilets. There are two large sinks for washing up.
There is no cafe, shop or play facilities, but it's not that kind of campsite. Our two boys really enjoyed playing football and cricket in the middle of the field with another family.
It was the perfect place for us to stop over, and about half an hour from Longleat, where we had a great day. Only sorry we didn't have time to visit the pub which has been so highly praised in other reviews! Maybe next time.
