We were allocated our pitch on arrival. This was meant to be a hard standing for our other parties caravan. Instead we were allocated over on the grass beside the main road. This was a bit worrying with kids and a dog and was very very noisy (a lot of tractors and lorries!) If we came again, I would insist on being well away from the road!
The toilets and showers were reasonably clean, although there was only 2 showers as one was out of order. There was no hot water in the sinks at all one day but we found out that someone had probably left the PUSH tap on! These are probably not the best kind of taps for a campsite!
There is a lovely green area in the middle where our kids had great fun playing. There is a friendly atmosphere on site with all children playing together.
There didn't appear to be any nearby shops but there was a texaco garage 5-10 mins up the road.
We visited Longleat and Cheddar Gorge, both of which are not too far away at all.
The reception/shop is un-manned so you do have to ring the bell and wait but the staff were very friendly and helpful. The shop has minimal supplies. We needed a gas bottle, fire lighters and a connector - none of which were available but the maintenance guy loaned us some things which was very nice of him!

We booked here for a week and ended up staying an extra night. Great site, clean, tidy, staff fiendly and very helpful. Toilet/shower block clean and even though only 3 showers and toilets never had to queue. Noticed on some reviews people moaned about the traffic but it didn't seem to bother us. Central for so many places eg. Bath, Bristol, Cheddar, Wookey Hole & Longleat etc. Recommend the pub opposite the site, excellent food and hospitality, wish it was my local. Will come back here again some day.

After camping in the rain & mud of Cornwall having grass under our feet felt like heaven. This site was well drained and we were able to choose our pitches. There was a lot of room on the site and they tended to keep the tents to the edges so the middle area was free for the kids to play. The site owner was lovely and very friendly and helpful. The toilets were rather basic and could have done with being cleaned more than once a day, but we were told by the owner that they are having a total refurb when season closes. We were up until after 11 most nights and the men & kids were playing football, cricket etc during the day and no one complained. It really was a kid friendly site. The pub over the road served fantastic meals, huge portions and very reasonable. The road can be a little noisy with the traffic. It is an ideal base for visiting Longleat. We would definitely use the site again.

Beautiful place.
Reception was always closed, never met the owners, key was left in a bowl outside reception due to late arrival(11pm).
We stayed 2 nights and on second day they mopped the floor and replaced tissue paper and paper towel. Shower drain was blocked. Road nearby noisy. We had to ring the bell in order to pay on last day.
Half hour away from Bath, no shops nearby.Only a pub.

This site is well situated for tourers, being easily accessed from the A37, although close proximity to the road does mean you get a fair amount of traffic noise. This can wake you early if you’re a light sleeper. The site is entered through gates operated by a magnetic key fob, and you access the pitches along a perimeter road which is lined with stored caravans, some of which look to have been there unloved for some time. The pitches are hard standing around the edge, though most of these seemed to be long term let, the grass area in the middle is roughly oval in shape, with no pitches marked. There are EHUs around the edge of the grass area, the grass being well maintained and the ground firm. We don’t recall seeing any play facilities on the site. Mature trees give some shade and act as a wind break around the site.
The shower block is basic but clean. The site was fairly quiet during our stay and I can imagine at busy times there may be a queue.
The office is only manned for a few hours a day, and this is also the shop. There is a limited range of basics. The site staff were around if you needed them and phone numbers provided to contact if they were not in sight. We paid £21 per night for a touring caravan with 3 adults, (the same price on all three sites we used this year) and feel that here it was a pound or two too much.
On leaving the site you pass more tatty vans and it does rather spoil the overall image.
Across the road is the Old Down Inn serving good beer and a wide range of foods, with a family friendly beer garden. Music is normally background and not obtrusive. (we did leave a bit early one evening before the Country and Western singer got going). We ate there a couple of times during our stay, good helpings for reasonable money.
About 2km along the road at Chilcompton is a well stocked Co-Op and a fuel station, and Midsommer Norton has an excellent selection of shops.
There are plenty of places to visit around and about incl. Bath and Longleat.

We stayed over August Bank Holiday weekend 2008. Site Warden very friendly, gave us a choice of pitches and explained key cards for gates, no rush to take balance of payment, in fact we didn't pay until the Monday, having arrived on Saturday. Unfortunately chose a pitch very near the road and this seems to be a rat run for motorists cutting around the south side of Bath, even weekend and Bank Holiday Monday very noisy from early in the morning, large tractors make up a lot of the traffic and there is a haulage depot just down the road towards Chilcompton. But it was our choice of pitch and not something the owners can do much about. Pitches level and easy to peg, but with the weather we've had this year ground pretty boggy where vehicles has accessed camping area. Showers and toilets first class, clean and warm. Very reasonable charges £18 with electrical hook up. Would use again but would specify pitch away from both roads if possible. Pub across the road has some fine real ales and a very good chef.

Went with my husband and three year old daughter. Really pleased with this site. It's a small site with friendly helpful wardens looking after the site.
The site is very reasonably priced and what was lovely, was the showers and ice block service were both free, no jumping out the showers with another 20p! There were 3 toilets and 3 showers in the ladies, the toilets and showers were also very clean and nicely painted.
Only down side was motorbike noise at night.
Would visit again.

A lovely warming welcome from the owners of this site and even offered areas to choose for us to camp. Beautifully kept, with tables and benches to put near your tent when you eat outside (if weathers permits!)
Toilet and showers were kept very clean! a big plus.
There is a lovely pub near, where we did have a drink but no food (Sorry!) but we were told to try out the Somerset wagon? a lovely pub with good portions of good homemade food about a mile down the road.
The road near is noisy but I didnt notice it too much to be honest. A fab site Keep up the good work!

We stayed at the old down touring park this year,
Even although the weather was a bit damp! we enjoyed our stay.
The site was well run and the facilities were of a high standard. On a personal note we thought the only thing that would improve the excellent facilities would be either a drying room or tumble dryer due to the inclement British weather.
The service from the manager and his wife was excellent and there local knowledge was second to none. We would definitely recommend this site.

Although we arrived at 8:30 pm, without a booking, the site warden could not have been kinder or more helpful. His 'nothing is too much trouble' welcome overcame any drawbacks to this site (it was the most expensive we stayed at during our two week cycling trip). He even staggered over to our tent with a picnic bench so that we could eat our meal comfortably. And when I had to disturb him in his chalet quite late to report that the shower had broken and water was going everywhere, he was still kindness personified. It is a small site positioned at the junction of two busy (and noisy) roads. All the facilities are exceptionally clean, and the pitches are level with well-maintained lawn and trees. Children were playing in the middle of the site but were all well-behaved. The warden even asked them to be quiet at about 10 pm which they were. He was worth every penny!
