We have recently returned home from a 3 night stay at Grondre. I don't usually leave personal reviews as I feel everybody's views and expectations are different - however, on this occasion I feel I must commend the park. What a lovely place to stay to relax and soak up the pleasant surroundings. Very reasonably priced too with so much on offer. The staff were so friendly from the moment we arrived - couldn't do enough for us, from reception staff, the chap on the 4x4 who drove us to our pitch, the bar staff, the cleaners, the chef, I could go on. 3nts was the max we could stay but wished we could have stayed for longer. Everything was spot on, not too busy being August school holidays. Campsite quiet, no noise experienced at all, everyone was so friendly and welcoming. Vale should be proud of it's staff at Grondre, they are a true credit to the company. They take pride in their work and it shows. We'll be back.

We have just spent a lovely 12 days at Grondre. The facilities were excellent, toilet blocks always clean and never a wait to use them. Even seen them being cleaned at 10pm ready for the next day. Children enjoyed the site, made some friends and we never seen them. They did say that some play facilities for older children (they are 9 and 12) would be nice, existing facilities were a bit small for them which left just the arcade or pool. Didn't really use the clubhouse, however we did eat there once and the food was excellent.
The one gripe we have is that folding campers are classed as tents and therefore not allowed electric. I didn't realise this when booking as every other site we have used classes us as a tourer (we have a conway crusader folding camper), luckily the lady at reception let us on an electric pitch within the seasonal pitches. The reason we were told that tents are not allowed on electric pitches is due to noise carrying from tents, yet there seemed to be more noise coming from caravanners in their awnings than from the tents. Also the site doesn't accept motorhomes, yet camper vans were on site. Is there a difference?
It is a lovely site that we would love to visit again, and maybe others in the group, yet we do like the creature comforts that electric brings.

'Grondre', I don't think there is an English translation? but it should translate to 'A very Happy place'. We have visited this site on several occasions over the last 2 years and we have always been impressed with the warm welcome from all of the staff there. We cannot wait to get some time off from work to return to this lovely safe site. Yes, sometimes when its busy you have to wait to take a shower and it is about 20mins from the coast, but who needs the sea when the children can use the warm outdoor heated pool, whilst you sit on the patio area enjoying a pleasant drink. Then look forward to the evenings entertainment and a meal at the friendly clubhouse, but do me a favour, once you see how good it is there, please don't tell your friends because I wouldn't want it to change, we like it just the way it is.

Grondre Vale is situated just outside Narberth, which is a lovely small town, with a good mix of shops, bars and restaurants. Tenby is only 20 mins drive away, which is the jewel in West Wales Crown. A must visit.
THE SITE
The touring field is on a gentle (ish) slope, with the camping field at the top. Football pitch has goals but on a ridiculous slope, so the boys weren't impressed. Toilets are clean but very small and struggled to cope at busy times. There always seemed to be one of the three blocks out of action when we are here. The outside pool is excellent. The reception and field staff are excellent but the bar staff were useless and rude, which is a shame. Clubhouse could do with a makeover and is too small for the site but the menu is extensive, if a little pricey and is of reasonable quality. The site is always kept clean and it is a good family site with lots of children playing. Grondre has the potential to be a great site but it is only an average site due to the need for investment in the clubhouse and the other pointers I have given.
It gives good value for money and although not the best site in the area, it is far from the worst.

Management response: Thank you for taking the time to post a review of our Holiday Park which is mostly positive and constructive; however, there are some areas that I would like to respond to.
Firstly, you stated that:
˜There always seems to be one of the three blocks out of action when we are here"
Grondre has four toilet & shower facilities and during the Whitsun Weekend they were all open. We employ a cleaner whose job is to constantly go between the four facilities and keep them clean and tidy. There may be occasions when the cleaner will have to close one of the mens facilities for a short period of time whilst she goes in to carry out her duties, but other than that, as stated, they were open every day of the Whitsun Weekend.
Secondly, you stated that: "..the club house needs more investment.."
The club is part of the original country house complex that was built for the Sheriff of Pembrokeshire in the 1800s. The club, along with the rest of the park has seen great investment since Vale purchased Grondre in 2000. To give you an indication, when we first applied to be graded by the Wales Tourist Board in 2001, the park barely made a 1 star rating. It is now a very good 4 star rated park. The club has a modern kitchen which has a 5 star food hygiene rating. It also has the latest entertainment system that enables us to run link bingo sessions with the other parks in our group (currently, we are one of only three UK park operators that offer this facility). During peak times there is nightly entertainment for both children & adults and as you correctly mentioned we serve an extensive menu. Most importantly, unlike many other park operators, the price of our beer is kept in line with the prices that you would expect to pay in your local social club. Personally, I do not agree that the club complex needs further investment.
Finally, and more concerning is your comment relating to our bar staff in which you say: ".... the bar staff are useless and rude"
We have no record of a complaint of this nature being made to the Park Management. I would be grateful if you could email me further details of this incident so that I can fully investigate it. Please send your email to info@valeholidayparks.com , marked for the attention of Thomas Scarrott.
For future reference, you will find that most issues and problems can be easily dealt with by reporting them to the Management during your stay. For example, during the Whitsun weekend there was a Director and a senior manager on park each day. This is a common occurrence as the Directors and senior managers of the company are frequent visitors to all of the parks in the group.
I look forward to hearing from you in due course.

Very nice site not far from anywhere like Tenby
The only down fall I found was that the camping field was a bit too far from water, I cannot see why they cannot put a couple of taps at the top of the field.
Otherwise it was a good week even though we where flooded out on the second day.
Toilet blocks are ok but not enough of them.
We had a good time Pool is fine and the club house serves good food I do believe they should stock a little more in the shop or even have a market on site.
Overall a good site but I did miss electric hook up. Would go again but would probably camp a bit closer to the taps

Arrived for 10 days at end of July. Easy to find but if driving a low car watch some of the speed bumps as we damaged our car (Peugeot 407).
Very nice site that is well maintained, reception staff on arrival were friendly and very helpful. Caravan pitches are in rows and are sloping, I used my ramps under my steadies to level up. The staff are great if you haven't got what you need and will get you some blocks.
The toilets/showers were good and clean, they were cleaned regularly. The touring/camping area had four separate blocks to choose from and if one was busy you tried the next but didn't have to wait. The shower temperatures did seem to fluctuate a bit whilst in there so a caution for showering children.
The outdoor heated pool is unsupervised and can get very busy and boisterous but a very good addition to this park. There is a small play area for the kids that was well maintained.
We did not eat or drink at the bar but have heard good reports from others.
All in all a good, clean site in a good location for West Wales. If you have youngsters Folly Farm is a must and for teens there is Oakwood. Tenby and its beaches are close by as well as the stunning Llys-y-Fran Country Park.
Weather was bad but the site was good and great value for money!

Nicely maintained site - toilets and shower block cleaned regularly enough to cope with the significant number of pitches on site.
Tent field quite exposed - great when weather was calm and still but be prepared with a windbreak (our next purchase!).
Clubhouse drinks reasonably priced - didn't eat there but looked okay from what we could see. Pool also looked nice but was a littel too breezy for me to venture in this weekend.
Only criticism would be that as no electric hook up was available in the tent field it would have been great to have had access to a plug point in the shower block to dry & straighten hair.
Will definitely visit again.

Bank holiday break. Very busy. Electric struggled to cope and toilet blocks, unable to meet the volume.
Swimming pool. Great. Boiling hot needed in poor weather, nice arcade area and bar was friendly with entertainment and high stakes bingo. Food was good quality Good location for travelling around and easy to find.
Seasonal pitches could do with strimming and tidy up, roads get mucky quickly with very little rain.
Park for children small but useful.
Value for money but choose your dates carefully?

We stayed at Grondre during the fine sunny weather of late May 2012, and aside from the weekends we virtually had the campsite to ourselves (the joys of being able to holiday during school term time!).
Although the site itself is in a rural inland setting, it is very handy for visiting all the beaches and attractions of Pembrokeshire - including Tenby, which is twenty minutes drive away and a truly fantastic place to wine, dine and enjoy the setting sun on a warm, summer evening.
The campsite staff are friendly and the maintenance teams keep the grounds and facilities well tended. There is a small club house and swimming pool, although we didn't use them.
The showers, toilets and wash facilities are well equipped, although as other reviewers have noted, there is no temperature control on the showers. Fortunately, they are set about right (although it would be nice to have the option of a cooler setting if the old sunburn is throbbing).
The main touring and tent field is located on a slope, although not so steep that levelling is a problem (and may actually be an advantage in wet weather). The caravans on the bottom of the slope appear to be semi-permanent and are used by the owners only at weekends.
The nearest supermarkets are in Narberth - five minutes away by car - with larger superstores further afield at Carmarthen and Haverfordwest. Alternatively, the camp reception stocks basic necessities if you don't fancy driving.
All told, a great place to stay, although I would imagine it can get quite busy with children and family during main holiday periods.

Just returned from this holiday park and was impressed with it.
The heated pool was lovely, my little girl loved it as it was like bath water. The club house was very nice and done a lovely meal for a good price. Lots for the kids to do. They also had security on at night and was also impressed with them as they did not let the kids run around the fields at night.
The toilet blocks and shower blocks were spotless and were being cleaned all the time I lost count of how many time I seen someone cleaning them and were also nice and warm. Playground was nice for the children and had picnic benches for you to relax. Wardens were very friendly and would help out when needed. The price of this park was £150 for 7 night which I thought was outstanding, In the past we paid around that for 5 nights in other site that have no where near the facilities that this park offers.
We were so impressed we have put our names down for a seasonal pitch.
The site is easy to get to, no tight roads which gives you a good start to the holiday.
There was one down fall to this park which was one of the receptionists was not very friendly and I thought it was a bit of a shame as the park is for families. Despite that we would return to this campsite and I would recommend it to family going camping.
