We stayed here for four nights and wish we could have stayed longer. The campsite is in a superb location. The two pitches we had were secluded and looked out over farmland. The toilet/shower block although looks 'tired' was always clean and tidy, with hot showers.
We hope to return to stay longer and explore the wonderful countryside and coastal paths a little more. It is also nice that dogs are allowed so our little puppy, Bo, had a great time too.

Again we have enjoyed another stay at Cotmore and there are many people who return each year as we recognised quite a few children!
Our boys really enjoyed their stay and made some friends. The site was again as we expect, yes the showers run hot and cold sometime but that happens, get over it - it doesn't ruin your holiday and if you are not keen on children I suggest an adult only site, August is the school holidays.
The owners always make you welcome and always have time to help. Many thanks to them both for a great holiday. Still recommend the Globe and also now the Church House Inn, Start Bay very good at lunchtime.

Camping on my own (60, female) with my dog, I felt very safe and comfortable here. There were plenty of children around, in fact it was mostly families, but in four days I never heard an adult raise their voice to a child, and the children seemed calm and friendly and happy.
I think I would describe the facilities as rustic: designed with thoughtful consideration and generosity, but definitely campsite rather than spa. The site was full, but I never had to queue for the loo or a shower or to wash up.
The showers were free and very hot. Plenty of room in the cubicles. Good sinks and plenty of space - and hot water - for washing up too. I particularly valued that one of the two loos in the camping field was in a very spacious cubicle, which meant I could take my dog in with me (I was frightened she might bark if I left her).
There were lots of dogs, but like the children, they were all miraculously well behaved.
My pitch was on the lower edge of the main camping field, and we had lots of rain, some of it torrential. And of course it has been wet all summer. The ground between the tents was fine, but where I needed to pitch the tent within my plot, to get the flattest ground (even so, I was on a slight slope) it was quite muddy and brown. Luckily my lovely tent didn't leak, as there were puddles under it by the time I left.
This is a very popular site - almost fully booked for the whole summer, when I called in early July. I had the sense that people come back time and again, and that this helps to sustain the very pleasant ethos of the site.
What I loved most was the utter silence of the night. Usually from about 9:30PM to 8:00AM it was really quiet. But in the night you could hear the silence. Occasional screeches of owls, it felt quite magical. And the air was wonderful too. It was a v long way from any busy road.
On this first visit, I didn't find a good sandy beach nearby for my dog to race about on. I know the general Kingsbridge area a bit, so we went to Bigbury, which is a long way, but worth it if you want to paddle in warm shallow waves with your dog and then go for a delicious coffee at the beach cafe.
For the best coffee in Kingsbridge, go to the Old Bakery at the bottom of the town. For a fantastic (and quite expensive) meal out go to the Oyster Shack, as you come up from the tidal road going from Aveton Gifford towards Bigbury.
I paid £17 per night, which seemed quite a lot for just me, but showers were free, and the pitches were well spaced, and I felt I was paying to be part of such a nice community.

When the plusses a campsite has are this good, it's not nice to write about negatives, but as with all things in life, there were a couple, so lets get them out of the way and then get on to the good stuff.
Firstly – and mainly – if you insist on a flat pitch, this almost certainly isn't the site for you. I noted only one properly flat pitch over the two fields being used, and we didn't have it! We were allocated a pitch on arrival and were at the bottom of the lower field.
This brought two problems. Firstly the tag relay races in the night, where my wife and I duly slid to to bottom of the bedroom and then scrambled back to the top. And secondly, the drainage. On the last of our five nights stay, during which the weather had included rain to some extent every day (and most nights) including some really heavy downpours, I noticed that the underside of my air bed was actually wet! Despite the fact that we had a proper Vango groundsheet under our tent – also Vango.
The other negative, in our opinions at least, is that one slide and two swings doesn't really constitute a park. It didn't make a bit of difference to me personally, but it was a bit of a disappointment to my 6 yr old.
But now to better things. The fact is that Gwen who runs the site with her husband (who we didn't meet) is fantastic. My wife was phoning around to book a site last minute and everything including this one, was full. Ten minutes after putting the phone down, Gwen rang us to say she'd had a cancellation and could accommodate us for up to five nights.
She was perfectly welcoming on arrival and even lent me a sleeping bag for the first night – we had accidentally left my son's behind and I was planning to wrap up in thermals and picnic blankets while he had mine. She also organised a game of Rounders in the top field on the Monday evening, which brought a real community feel to things. Gwen also put the next day's weather forecast on display outside the site shop each day.
As for the facilities (aside from the aforementioned 'park') everything was fine. There are two toilet blocks – one general with two toilets and two basins, and a proper wash/shower/toilet room for each gender further down. All are kept clean – I think they're done twice daily – by the on site warden.
There is a garage with a table-football game and a table tennis table. You have to take your own bats and ball, but I believe they are sold at the site shop.
The shop itself is only open for two one hour periods during the day, but that is clearly stated and so didn't bother us. Besides, Gwen is still very helpful. They also sell a variety of gas cylinders, and when ours ran out, Gwen was only too happy to supply us with a refill/exchange, even though it wasn't shop open hours.
Not only was the water in the showers warm enough, but also the water in the undercover area for doing the dishes (free of charge). There is also a freezer for you to put your ice packs in, for which a charitable donation is requested – a charity box is right next to the freezer. Mobile phones can also be charged, again for a charitable donation left to the individual's discretion.
This is a lovely site, with wonderful views from the top fields – which also have some football goals. It is well run and a pleasure to stay at – as long as you can sleep on a slope!

Location
Situated about 1 mile from the seaside village Torcross, and about 6 miles from Kingsbridge, this campsite is set in the lovely rolling Devonshire countryside. The access to the site is down the usual tight winding roads for the area, so if you’re taking a big vehicle or caravan… beware. There is very limited overtaking space on the roads around the site, so be prepared to reverse for maybe up to 50mtrs to find a suitable gap… OK with a car, but imagine trying with a trailer, or worse… a caravan.
Site
This is a wonderful site, consisting of 2 tent fields, a touring/static caravan field and several holiday cottages. The 2 tent fields are sloped, and the caravan field less so. Most have EHU.
Facilities
The tent fields have their own shared communal toilets (2 cubicles and 2 basins), a covered washing up area (2 washing up, and 1 laundry) and barn with a couple of wet weather games. The showers are located in the caravan field, just a short walk back down the path – 4 private shower cubicles in the gents and the same in the ladies, along with a few basins. The shop opens up for an hour each morning, on request. There is also a laundry room, containing a washing machine and tumble dryer.
Staff
The site is run by Gwen and Matthew, who were always attentive and informative, giving several good recommendations of which beaches and towns to visit. Gwen actually called us the day before we were meant to be travelling to let us know that the area had a red alert weather warning, with torrential rain forecast for 24 hours. We then decided that we wouldn’t go until the following day, and asked for a pitch at the top of the field where the drainage was better.
Our stay
We arrived a day late, due to weather, and were given a pitch in the middle field, against the top hedge. We had a huge plot with an EHU, not that it mattered as there were only 5 tents there. They had all weathered the previous day’s storm, and the field was remarkably well drained, enough for us to drive up to the pitch, enabling us to unload. We didn’t drive up the field again, as we didn’t want to ruin the grass for future campers. Matthew used his tractor to tow our trailer up to the pitch.
The weather for the following few days was good, with an occasional shower, but on the Thursday it was torrential all day, which left a muddy mess at the door of the tent.
The washing up faculties were fine, with plenty of hot water… although just in 1 sink (randomly), the other sink just provided cold water, for some reason. Now, with 1 working sink and 5 tents, it wasn’t much of a problem… however I dread to think what it would be like with 30 or more tents. The same could be said about the tent field toilets (fine for 5 tents…but more???)
We used the freezer to freeze our own coolbox blocks – which was great.
The showers on the caravan field were always clean, and always had plenty of free hot water – they did close between 11. 30am and 1pm for cleaning, however. We used them most days, and often were the only people in there. We never used the laundry room, so can’t comment.
The area is beautiful, there are plenty of beaches (Torcross and Beesands) that are worth a visit – but at the top of your list should be Millbay (East Portalmouth) which is maintained by The National Trust… it’s breathtaking. Crabbing in Dartmouth or Salcombe should also be up there if you have little ones.
When we packed up it took forever, we finally finished at 12. 30, and at no point did we feel rushed. Again, in order to preserve the grass we parked on the hard standing, and carried our stuff down to it. The trailer was collected by Matthew again and brought down to our waiting car.
All in all we had a fantastic time, the weather could have been better, but the site when we stayed was perfect and the area was lovely. We will be back.

Old Cotmore farm is situated in a lovely part of the world.
However after spending ten days at the Campsite in July, I'm afraid we can't agree with all of the glowing reviews below - I do have to wonder if these reviewers were staying at the same campsite.
The toilets and showers were described as basic - which is fine, however they also weren't especially clean. Hot water was something of a lucky dip in both the Mens & Ladies showers, and 4 showers in each isn't enough in peak summer when the camping ground is full (30+ tent pitches plus caravanners also using these facilities meant they were very crowded).
There was a second toilet block in the camping field with two unisex cubicles, where the washing up area is also located, however these were essentially in an old barn and were most definitely not clean.
The pitches were of a good size, however they are not level, and had very little privacy in the tent field and with only one tap for running water back where the toilet block is.
We were unfortunate to be on the site right next to the entrance which meant all cars headlights on full beam shone right into our tent. With this and the lack of privacy (some very loud snoring near us) sleep was rather hard to come by.
We don't mind a basic campsite, but privacy and some peace and quiet is important, as are clean and adequate facilities.

Access to the site is very tight as previously stated, with a blind spot when leaving.
I would agree that the surrounding areas to visit and campsite grounds are lovely. But this is not a site for a couple who appreciate peace and quiet!
Being located near to the play area, which was in use up to 10pm, then to lay listening to raised voices of parents, sat around outside till early hours drinking!
The toilet block was clean but the showers? Water temperature varied between hot or cold in both Mens & Ladies not able to adjust yourself, left no choice.
The toilet cubicles were cramped, no room for knees when sat, if you sat conventionally. Difficult to negotiate, especially as the seats were loose, due to the struggle I guess!
Also a shaver point or Two would have been nice to see. Signs put up by the owners requesting children be accompanied being ignored by some!
Electric hook up. Good job we have a very long lead, buried in the undergrowth of nettles and very long grass behind someone's caravan and awning. We were not the only ones looking for this at the time, but we did share the joke.
Only saw the owners of the site twice, on arrival and on the morning of departure, not that this bothered us in anyway, but thanks for the peace, when you arranged rounders for the kids in the top field, wish we had been there to witness it!
Not worth the star rating, that repeat visitors are giving, but it obviously suits them.
Would we visit again. No

We enjoyed our stay at Old Cotmore, the pitches are large but some how feel claustrophobic with tents oposite.
The facilities are ok, the showers are full of cobwebs and spiders something my daughter fussed about throughout our stay, the hot/cold showers stayed on for 10 -20 seconds at a time a small and common niggle.
All the children behaved well on the site when we were there, with the exception of the first night our children were a bit excited and quickly made friends next door, they did make a lot of noise for around 5 minutes at around 8:45 pm, we quickly nipped it in the bud, however the owner did feel the need to come over and tell them all off when they were just told off by their parents, she returned in the morning to apologise, I didn’t mind so much if she wanted to affirm her rules, so I guess she slept on it and realised sometimes parents are best to deal with their own children. As for other noise this seemed to be ignored in the caravan field and kids were still playing until 10, strange.
It is a quiet and relaxing site and largely never heard much from 10pm, however one night someone had the Olympics on TV full blast in tent and another family with teenagers appeared to be quite drunk on a number of nights and made a bit of noise upon their return, pity the owner was not so keen to tell them off, but if you don’t complain etc.
The playground was a miss with the kids, they enjoyed table tennis and ball games were allowed at the top field.
It is in a very nice location for walkers, cyclists etc but a bit out of the way if you have children as driving is pretty necessary to get on the beaches or something I didn’t enjoy enduring driving to the pub for a pint and soft drinks, nothing wrong with walking down hill it’s the uphill largely walking on small narrow roads.
Lots to do and see around in the area and there is plenty to do in the area, the owners were fine and helpful.
A nice site, but not quite the gem the reviews quite claim. Horses for courses.

Once again a fabulous stay, Gwen and Matthew are very welcoming and we really enjoyed our stay. Ideally situated by the climbing frame/swings is perfect for us with three boys. Booked again for our 4th year next year! Captain Flints in Salcombe good place for families although you can't book in advance. The Globe at Frogmore is always a good favourite as reasonable meal prices and opens at 5:30 which is so helpful with children. Make a trip to see the Sherman Tank at Slapton, this puts life into perspective.

This is one of the best campsites we have stayed at, the pitches are huge and well spaced out with a large field for playing games in.
The facilities were clean with plenty of hot water and the freezer was particularly useful during the hot weather that we had.
What makes this site special is the space, and that the tents are not crammed in. It really is just like the photos, even in the school holidays!
The location is ideal for exploring the amazing beaches in the area. It really makes you feel as if you are away from it all but the local amenities are all close by.
