Been reading previous reviews and don't entirely agree with them, I have been to this site 4 times now and would recommend it to anyone with young children.
The play park is ideal and easily seen from any of the tent pitches, staff helpful and the club was suitable for its purpose, I don't know why people are saying its dated and needs painting.
Booked to go back next week.

First time we have been to thurston manor site. Men's toilets/showers are small & could do with updating & a lick of paint. Only 3 toilets & showers.
Club house is like a working men's club, could do with a good revamp.
The wardens seemed to be riding around in a transit van checking on van locations & who had awnings up etc. Why can't they walk around the site instead of in an annoying diesel transit van! The roads are right outside your caravan so it's most annoying!
Hard standings have no grass next to them, it's all gravel for caravan & awning. So we never bothered with awning. Got a refund on that.
Site shop is good, has all the basics. Pool is small but ok.
I saw big dogs like alsation size roaming about on the park, not acceptable really, just lazy owners letting there responsibilities go elsewhere.
Site is good for golfers quite a few good courses in surrounding areas, so transport is essential.
The weather wasn't too bad, had rain during the night but daytime was fine.
Tv reception is good, no problems in tuning our tv in.

Easy to find and easy, efficient check in rather than friendly.
Booked a super pitch on this site and glad we did.
Water pipes seemed quite far for other campers and ground was not always flat. Super pitches had gravel standing, good for the rain that came this week.
Ladies toilets were clean, shower was free. Key for access to toilets required £5 deposit and key for ladies was dodgy sometimes turning round in lock for ages.
The key system seemed over the top, as it is unlikely that people other than those camping would be using the facilities.
The cost of the pool should be included in the site fee, kids didn't use it as they were not allowed in bubble pool. But for adults each activity added extra cost.
Bar area prices were good.
Disapointed that £5 tickets each were required for the turn on Saturday night, therefore we declined to watch.
Wardens were often to be seen during the evening time
Overall the site was okay but I'd expect more for a 5 star rating. I'd give it a 3.
Nearby area is quite although there is a large supermarket less than 4 miles from the site. Local village has no shop or pub but is a nice walk.
Far enough from the A1 so no road noise, would not visit again though

1st camping trip ever. Plastic pegs on montana not good on very solid ground - now need to purchase new set of pegs. Pitch size too small for montana 6 plus awning which was our online booking; in fact almost too small for tent alone although described as a pitch for a large family tent.
Ladies toilets were clean; mens not so much. Key for access to toilets required £10 deposit and key for ladies could take up to 5 minutes to open as lock was dodgy.
Playground much loved by our 2 girls (age 4 and 9) and easily visible from furthest away tent pitch.
Pool extremely disappointing for cost - showers in pool area not working. The cost of the pool should be included in the site fee - or the fee should be cheaper.
Bar area was outdated but okay and prices were good.
Kids club not great and if your child was under 6 you had to stay.
Wardens were much in evidence on our first night when the site was practically empty but couldn't see any on our second when a large group arrived to party (loudly) until midnight.
Family showers very good but unfortunately no lighting working in one of them. Toilets and dishwashing facilities are (very oddly) closed for cleaning between 8am-8. 30am
Overall the site was okay but I'd expect everything to be working at the start of the season - it wasn't. We'd selected this site as it had an AA fab rating. I'd not agree with them - a 3 star would cover it for me.

Went to a family members static, site very impressive and clean. We are returning this july for a week with our own tourer. This will be our fourth visit in a few years. Bar and restaraunt very well priced. (cheaper beer than my local)all the negative reports about being to noisy seem to me to be made from people who arent suited to camping. Kids are kids after all and who is the holiday for at the end of the day. If adults are looking for real peace and quiet go to an adults only site. There's one on top of ben nevis I'm told. Showers and toilet block are spotless. Hot water all the time. Pitches that we have had in the past were well set out with loads of room. As for the security, has anybody been to a haven site recently?the guy who seemed to be the head security officer at this park don't take nothing. I have a teenage boy who likes to be boisterous like any teenager, but even he commented on the guys handling of him and friends that he had met. If they were getting to loud sitting on the picnic benches provided outside the club. Firm but fair he said. BTW the beach at the ccc site down the road at dunbar would take some beating if the sun was out.

This was my first visit to Thurston Manor and I was pretty impressed.
'Check-in' was nice and quick, then a very short drive up to the pitch.
Ground was seemed to be pretty stony underneath, but I had a bunch of rock pegs with me, which took care of that.
Great facilities on site - well stocked shop which was pretty reasonably priced
Toilets and shower block nice and clean, not too busy, so can't ask for more than that
Leisure facilities were great (pool, gym, sauna, steam room), though a wee bit disappointed they weren't included in the price of the pitch, but never mind. Great park for the kids to play in with the equipment looking nice and safe.
2 bars, a restaurant a function room and a kids room meant no shortage of things to do in the evening if you fancied a beer or something to eat.
It's a big busy park, so you could hear some noise at night, either from other tents or people leaving the pub, but it wasn't noisy and people are on holiday after all.
Wouldn't hesitate to go back or to tell people we had a great time

Thurston Manor is a great park upon arriving, has all you require, pool, shop, park, pub, restaurant.
Pitches are full of rocks, as there are no divides between the pitches £24 is too much to pay. Since you pay extra for pool, this fee is excessive for small outdated site privileges included in price.
The swings could do with a drop of oil too and supervision is suggested at park as children of all ages use play area. We do supervise and were glad we had done so.
Only access area into play park is too close to the bar for my liking, the other has been chained off for some reason.
I had a valid complaint but had to wait until 9am until reception opened and my complaint was received in a dismissive manner nor was it rectified in any acceptable manner.
I would hesitant to recommend this park based on my experience and years of touring experience.

Stayed here for second year running. As before site excellent, facilities great, enjoyed use of pool and restaurant and shop on site. Would have liked to have been told that payment to site did not include pass into pool etc. In fact one particular receptionist not very pleasant at all!
Location good, we went into Edinburgh from here OK for us but some people may think it too far out. Dunbar is very interesting village enjoyed walks around and the coast and the cleanest public convenience I have ever seen! We would not hesitate in returning to site if we in area again.

Our 5 year old daughter just loved the Play Park and the Swimming Pool.
The toilets were always clean and the Family Shower Room a very good size.
We arrived on Thursday with the site very quiet, Friday got busier and Saturday was fairly full as you would expect.
The shop is well stocked and is reasonably priced.
We will be having a return visit, good job we took the very heavy duty ground pegs as you hit hardcore 4 inches down.

We spent 3 nights here end of April/May bank holiday. We were pitched at the back on the grass tent pitches. OH complained that the ground was very hard and full of stones. A few tent pegs knackered that weekend! As previously mentioned these pitches are quite exposed and being close to the coast you can get a bit of a battering when the wind gets up.
Kids enjoyed the playpark which seemed a reasonable size. We used the swimming pool once to occupy the children on a rainy morning. It did not seem overcrowded as the site was busy that weekend.
The shop on site was well stocked and the prices were reasonable. We had an evening meal in the bar which was ok.
Overall, we had a good weekend but not sure if we would return as there are lots of other places to visit in the surrounding area.
