We thought this is one of the best run sites we have been to. The staff are excellent in the reception, shop and club. When one of our friends had an accident just down the road, they were more than happy for the damaged trailer tent to be put into the compound pending the insurance sorting it out. The showers were great and although push button, I thought they were never going to stop.
The food in the bar was top rate and very reasonable but we didn't venture in at night so cant comment on the entertainment.
We were pitched at the back of the touring field on the grass tent pitches - which I would choose again as you can see the play area but are about the furthest away you can get - and yes there were older children on it well past 11pm.
The pool was great but a shame you do have to pay when the pitch fees are already quite high. The Asda just down the road was very handy and Dunbar is a lovely little town with a great cafe at the railway station.

Good points: Site shop prices.
Family shower facility.
Spacious playing field.
Security seem to be on there toes now considering previous reviews from others.
Not noisy at all.
Bad points: As with all touring one can not choose ones neighbours.
Countryside very basic in comparison to central and highland Scotland.
Sea to far away.
Beach not very beach like not as picturesque as St. Andrews.
Play Park noisy at night make sure that you do not get a pitch near it.
Had to watch over the kids constantly due to the odd bully.
Site facilities should be free or inclusive in the site fee.
Once you have spent one to two days here you have seen it all.
Very boring had to leave early.
Entertainment for the kids should be picked up dramatically as boredom leads to corruption Lol.

Have just returned from 2nights here and disappointed. Weekend completely ruined by noisy neighbours - obviously in a tent you can hear everything. I had complained about noise from these guys several times but by the time security decided to do something about it he could not ask them to leave they were too drunk. Teenagers at the park were screaming and laughing late (12.30am)
Toilet block old fashioned although they have family wet rooms that were new. Shop well stocked. Ground very hard and Dunbar is a generally windy area so keeping windbreakers up was problematic.

Just returned from the park and was excellent. Had 2 kids with me age 2 and 6 and they both had a great time.
Showers Spotless (really fussy about the showers)
Food lovely and really cheap
Beers £2.50 a pint so had a happy husband
Play park was fantastic
Football Pitch - Hardly saw my son as he was there all the time
We could not get the awning up as was awful windy and the metal pegs would not stay in the ground.
Had a super pitch which was great, but thought the price for Awning was awful pricey (£5 per night) we got money back as couldn't get the awning up.
All in all was excellent would recommend !1

It was nice to visit somewhere after not being there for a while to see improvements going on -on a great park in the first place! They are adding family wet rooms and great new pitches although it is the sort of site that I wouldn't mind where I was pitched about. Our children were excited when they seen how the playpark had been added to!
Whitesands beach near the new CCC site at Dunbar is lovely, just A short drive away.
Heated pool - lovely, jacuzzi too. Attendant keeping it very clean.

Stayed here for one night, not many tourers on so site was quiet. Toilets and showers clean but cold. Went to the club, very nice but didn't use pool, but was told it's nice. Site has a well stocked shop. All site staff very helpful. Didn't think there was a lot of hard standing. Close to the A1 but you cant hear it. Site was looking clean and tidy, it looked well kept. Hope to visit this site again.

Spent two nights here with my family. Site was the noisiest we have ever stayed at in 12 years of camping. There is no control whatsoever and all of us (including children) were kept awake until 3am and 1am respectively. Didn't use the leisure club but it looked ok. Children's park ok but frequented until well after dark with teenagers.
Stayed well clear of the bar and entertainments as just not our cup of tea. Toilet block clean enough but pretty old fashioned. Wouldn't ever stay here again as just not a relaxing break due to many other rowdy badly behaved campers.

I agree with most of the criticisms of this site. We booked in for 7 nights but left after 3! The showers and toilets blocks were inadequate and dirty. There is one sink only for washing up and that closes at 8.00 pm. The ground is almost impossible to get tent pegs in, and the pitch not marked out and cramped.
The staff were indifferent, and they have this stupid key system for the toilets! And there is no security to stop anyone coming onto the site.

Thurston Manor is an extensive leisure park consisting mainly of static units with a new expansion - 'The Glen' which consists of many up-market statics, many of which have the appearance of log cabins. The park is set up for these static owners and temporary residents who hire park-owned statics for week or fortnight occupancies. The site is well groomed, has a very good on-site supermarket with reasonable prices and a decent leisure centre (reasonable daily rates) with a small swimming pool, jacuzzi, steam room, sauna and gym. Facilities for tourers are basic. The pitches are very small which means that when a tourer + awning are side-by-side with a similar setup, there is less than a 6ft gap. During our stay the touring / camping site was teaming with un-checked kids who found it immense fun to play with the water taps, further flooding an already rain-flooded area and causing mothers to scream like banshees at them. There is no separate waste-water / fresh water tap for example. The showers / toilet block (accesible by key - £5 deposit) are moderately clean, but tatty - in urgent heed of re-furb. Everything looks as though it has been built with second-hand stuff or acquired from a car-boot sale. The leisure club is better - but nothing to write home about. The on site 'Club' appeared to be popular, but not my cup of tea. Approach is via an outdoor 'patio' area which serves as the smokers' paradise - you enter smelling of smoke! There's a large 'concert room' which hosts 'turns', karaoke, bingo etc. There's also a games room (arcade games, pool etc) an lounge / bar which serves bar meals and a small lounge which presents SKY sports and is adults only. I appreciate that many families will appreciate this facility, they certainly did during our stay and would be very grateful for a haven away from the rain - each to their own. Around and about there are many places to visit with some lovely beaches within 5 miles. Dunbar is a quaint little town with some decent shops some 4 miles distant (Excellent municipal Leisure Centre (wave pool- free admission during day). A little further afield you will find North Berwick (about 20 miles but worth the drive). Here you will find idyllic beaches (Gullane, Yellowcraig) or even those in town. Good shops (Tesco & Somerfield), a wide range of restaurants - try the Italian near the War Memorial - excellent and reasonable. Great for golf too. If you want a basic site with an all singing-all dancing 'club' then go no further, but for us it wasn't our cup of tea.

Just came home from this site yesterday and have to say very disappointed. Originally booked in for 5 nights but came home after 4. Once we arrived and booked in we were given social club membership cards and told to carry them with us at all times - I still don't know what they are for as we were never asked to produce them. Then went to our pitch to set up and found that we had no grass only mud (luckily the awning groundsheet saved the caravan from getting manky). Night time noise went on till about 3 am generally. Small toilet block for such a large site. Dogs run free without the owners cleaning up after them (I myself am a dog owner). Never seen one warden at all. No guarantee of a hot shower. Upon leaving when handing back the toilet key the girl remarked " so your leaving early as well " On the plus side the restaurant serves up lovely food especially the steak pie. I'm sorry to say but I wont go back but if your going and like to sleep then take earplugs !
