Just returned from this site after 2 nights stay. Read reviews before booking but did not appreciate extent of ground problem - HARD, nor the fact it is very exposed and windy verging on gale force at times. Facilities however are excellent and site is clean and pretty. Overall though the poor ground and wind spoilt our stay, many people felt the same with some leaving earlier than planned.

Well what can I say, after reading all the previous reviews a little worried regarding the wind and the hard ground. How wrong I was the site is perfect even though we had heavy rainfall for 5 days, you understand why the ground was so hard the drainage was brilliant. After a heavy days rain as soon as it stopped the kids could play out as the rain water had gone, fantastic. The site is as windy as you would expect for being in the middle of a campsite, if you put your tent up right you have no worries do you?? All in all I would return to this immaculate site any time, very polite staff, the facilities are excellent a credit to Scotland.

We've just returned from a touring weekend at this site visiting someone who had a static caravan on site. It's difficult to know where to start really. Although the park is beautiful, the touring area is less so. Very cramped with everyone on top of each other. The ground is so hard I broke my mallet on it. The dish-washing area is unmarked and inside the Laundry Room. Unfortunately this is locked at 8pm which is not particularly helpful when you have a habit of eating late as we do. Perhaps we were simply unlucky but the noise was simply horrendous from a large number of tents and caravans around us. This was not helped by the volume of loud music coming from the official onsite pub until 1am. On both nights we were kept awake until 3am by rowdy campers drinking excessively. Campsites like this operating an alcohol licence MUST have patrols to keep on top of stuff like this. This site wasn't really for us and I'd always advise anyone wanting a well looked after site with guaranteed peace and quiet to go to a Caravan Club site. Otherwise you face a lottery and a potentially wasted weekend.

We were booked in from Tuesday to Saturday last week of May.The site has impressive facilities, the leisure club has two bars, a large games room and a fair sized swimming pool. The toilet blocks were ok modern and warm. Other reviews commented on the hard ground, not a problem just take some rock pegs, the bonus is that despite 48 hours of non stop rain the ground dried very quickly, be warned even on the sunny days it was still windy. Some of the pitches are a bit small, we had to move from the one we were given as our XXL just wouldnt fit.
There is a down side to the site in that its very noisy, a bit like the Truman show at 7.30 each morning it seems to spring into action as if on que and there are a fair number of construction workers about so adding to the vehicle noise. On the Friday the site filled up and to be honest we left a day early as it seems the 11pm quiet rule is not enforced so be prepared for loud music and even louder conversations from fellow campers which go on way into the early hours. Edinburgh is at least on hours drive away, not the 30 mins Ive seen written somewhere (ok you can reach the welcome to Edinburgh sign in about 35 mins).Oh remember take your roof box off if you want to park or alternatively you can do it on the side of a busy road and give the locals a laugh. The Air museum is a great day out, dont be put off by the appearance you can fill a good 4 or 5 hours there. Ocean terminal in Edinburgh (Lieth) has covered shopping and a multiplex Cinema. Overall its great site but I wouldnt want to stay there when its busy, we have stopped at similar sites when full and never experience quite as much after hours noise as this. Maybe some investment in a nite warden patrol would make all the difference?

Tried to book on the May bank holiday, and the site was full, so we took the next weekend, and the site only had 12 of approx 80 tourer pitches occupied, no bank holiday traffic, piece and quiet and some rain, well 3 out of 4 is not bad and what do you expect in Scotland! This site is one of the best in Southern Scotland, clean and quiet, with great facilities / entertainment / social club / fitness centre / swimming / sauna etc. There are a huge number of static pitches, and loads more being built on a separate adjoining location called "The Glen". There is a lot of money being spent on this site, all to the benefit of us "Tourers"! We will be back.

Campsite very quiet, spotlessly clean and hot showers with shower gel. Staff helpful and friendly. Shop very cheap and stocked all that we needed. Ground hard but manages perfectly well with correct steel pegs. Wind outside and inside the caravan a problem from time to time!Teenage kids well catered for with pool and facilities. Would go back, but preferably when quite. Air museum at East fortune well worth a visit.

I could get into toilets and showers and hard ground for tent pegs like previous reviews but I`m not going too.It depends what you think is important-just go for a shower and swim at the lovely indoor HEATED pool and jacuzzi! Thats what sold it for me. Entertainment lounges are comfy and nicely done out.Pitches are in a nice location.

Visited this site with 6 other tents - all had MAJOR problems getting the pegs in the ground its that hard. Had terrible, terrible gales through the night which destroyed some of friends tents and pulled awnings off caravans - we were all up for hours trying to get pegs into the ground to secure tents - no sign of wardens to help. Had spoken to friends who have also visited and state this site is bad for gales so beware!. Overall still a good site with plenty to do for the kids.

Had just an overnight stop here and haven't been before. Looked nice on arrival but the ground broke all of our tent pegs and mallet and had to spend £15 in the shop buying new ones! They said "this happens to everyone on their first visit to their site. A bit on the noisy side too in the tent area, loud music from other tents and the disco til late, motorised skateboards etc. A little disappointed considering the price. Good shop, clean toilet block, play park more suited to older children except a baby swing. Might be better for those who prefer a lively park.

Booked this site before reading the reviews on this site and we were a bit anxious. But, we had a great time. Found the facilities fabulous - swimming pool, gym, adult bar, kids entertainment all excellent. Toilets and showers spotless. Pitch was a bit hard but this was due to a sandy/gravelly base below the turf which meant at least the site had good drainage. Without this the ground would be turned up from the cars after rain. We got our pegs in and it certainly wasn't as bad as Pooley Bridge. It's not your back-to nature, peaceful site and is definatley family orienatted but in this bracket its one of the best we've been to. Good for kids for all ages even the Kevin and Perrys. We met lots of people how returned to the site year after year, we will probably join them
