The clue is in the name of the site - Hill of Oaks - it is situated on a very steep hill leading down to the lake where the reception can be found. You then go back partly back up the hill and the touring site is situated in a clearing between the trees. There is no view at all of the lake or anything else other than trees all around.
Pitches are of varied size and some very uneven. Only a few are actually level. They slope back to front as well as sideways.
The toilet and shower block are immaculate. Each toilet has its own sink, hand soap and hand dryer. The showers are very roomy with lovely hot water and NO push button. Hair dryer is free.
The reception has a well stocked shop and tourist information. You can sit by the lake to enjoy an ice cream but there are no lakeside walks just the area where the boats more up. Walking direct from the site is limited to crossing over the main road and going up another hill before you can walk on the hills.
The bus stop is right outside the site exit and they run too time but are not very frequent. A nice site but not one we would return again

Stayed here for a weekend in May 2016 it was great we were a long time travelling but the 8:00pm cut off time is very reasonable and not too much trouble if you are going to be late a couple arrived pretty late on the Friday (13th!) after picking up their new motor home the staff were very helpful. The toilet/shower block was kept very clean lots of hot water and toilet paper, can't fault the site at all the pitches are very large you can get your caravan, car and a boat! all on one pitch. All pitches are on a hard slate/stone/gravel type requiring rock pegs for awning/sun shades canopies etc. We had a lovely little stream running behind us which was very nice unfortunately some children were playing on our pitch in and over the stream before we arrived and wanted to carry on doing so but it was upsetting our dogs and it meant they kept clambering over and jumping on our bright orange hook up lead. Then Friday night was horrendous with the families of the children drinking and shouting upto 1:30am and the odd call out at 2:00am, unfortunately the 'no noise after 10:30pm' can not be enforced on such a big site. I just wish that some fellow caravanners would be considerate when they choose to have a bbq and drinks to keep the noise to a minimum, we never heard a peep out of the children after 8:00pm.

Hill of Oaks has a very picturesque setting, amongst many trees and set against Lake windermere, The Touring facilities are of a generous size, with some privacy from your next door neighbour. The facilities included a big Toilet block with generous showers and individual toilets with a sink, the main reception area had a well stock shop and an information area with places to go. The staff where very friendly and accommodating. Unfortunately there was no local shops or a pub near by, this would mean a half an hour drive to kendal for amenities.
Overall a very peaceful, and quiet site- very pretty setting- and helpful staff.

Just returned from a two night stay. Glorious stay in glorious surroundings. Well worth the money, considering it was a busy time. Showers great but could do with a bit of updating but still clean. Staff really helpful and cheerful and well turned out giving a great standard of professionalism. Will we return? Definitely with our new addition.

We have just spent a few days here, our first visit to the lakes and what a beautiful area it is.
The site is quite hilly but our pitch was spacious and on hard standing. The toilet and shower facilities were very good but very wet on the floor (nothing to moan about but a squeegee for the floor as well as a op would have helped this)
The site is beautiful, some good walks for the dog and a good children's play area, if visiting the area again I would definitely return.

Arrived at the site to a fairly steep decent down to reception, on departure it's another route out, however still on a hill up, with large speed humps, so be careful with your tow bar. Gorgeous location straight onto lake Windermere, stunning views. There are a few lakeside pitches, a lot of these seem to be with Tourer caravans that are permanently pitched there. On arrival reception failed to mention that you needed to purchase a plug in Ariel to receive any signal, it was only the kindness of a fellow caravaner that told us, so perhaps that could be mentioned on arrival. Most of the touring pitches are set further back on a designated touring part. They are all on slate standings, so make sure you have rock pegs for awnings. Toilet block lovely and clean and warm. Four large showers with seat and hooks. Large toilets cubicles with a sink for washing. It was quiet when we stayed so never had to wait for toilet or showers.
It's about five miles from site into Windermere, so no pubs near if that's what you like. Lovely dog walks around the site.
All in all a lovely site, but we both felt mainly catered for static caravans and lodges, would we return. No, but we really can't put our finger on why, nothing to pull the site down on, just something missing for us.

We stayed for just one night on this beautiful site, which was very reasonably priced
Staff were very friendly and nothing too much trouble Toilets and showers absolutely spotless! That said,
We wanted to get a bus into Windermere which we were told stopped at the main entrance, which was a good fifteen minutes hike up an extremely steep path!
Having risked a coronary (very unfit 60 year olds) we stood in the pouring rain and no bus turned up! There was no footpath at the roadside and it really is in the middle of nowhere so had no option but to return to the van, cold wet and disappointed! Maureen the lady on reception called for a taxi (£10 into Windermere)
My only reservation in recommending this beautiful place would be if you were of limited mobility (3days later my knees are still complaining) or had to depend on public transport!

Only stayed the one night but would happily have stayed more.
Great location by the side of lake Windermere nestled amongst the trees. Winderemere and Newbey bridge towns about 5 miles in either direction.
Pitches easily identifiable and a good size, really nice to have own tap as well as electric hook up as standard.
A few more signs on the road in for entrance and exit would be a helpful
Shower and toilet block the best I have seen, staff friendly and helpful
All in all a cracking site and reasonable price, recommend if your in the area

Visited hill of oaks in March 2015 for four days. Found the site ok using sat nav the first time you enter the site you go in down a narrow track but still big enough for car and caravan. Once you reach the bottom you find the reception where you are informed that it is a one way in for caravans and one way out for caravans but also can come in this way cars only. The site is set in woodland area and toilet and shower areas are clean and tidy. The reception also has a small shop where you can pick up essential items. My only let down points is a lack of sign posting for entry and exit as this can get confusing especially in the dark. Also a lack of lighting in the touring area this was not a problem for me but the females in my family. All in all I would recommend this site as you have a great base to explore the lake district.

Booking was a bit convoluted. Look at the site diagram first to get a pitch number. You book a pitch by number, which doesn't show up on the reciept or anywhere further on in the booking process, but when you arrive, the pitch you booked is yours. Staff were very friendly. Toilet block was clean and tidy. Phone signal patchy (maybe vodaphone, but no EE), but chargeable WiFi. Fantastic site for water lovers, as several jetties on site, which were nice just to be able to walk on and look at the views over the water. Only note of caution is when exiting the site - the barrier starts raising and once at the vertical starts immediately to descend again. If you wait for it to be vertical and then proceed it will be in the way down again.
