Huge site, mainly static homes. Tourers mainly lumped together.
Lots of hills and windy roads on site, good playgrounds, separate one for under 6's.
Large, clean toilet/shower blocks with key access.
10. 30 quiet rule. Here is where we were let down. 3 caravans had travelled together, combined with alcohol meant a noisy night. The staff did ask them to be quiet but within 5 mins of them leaving they had started again. 2 other 'vans were noisy until midnight too. Bit of a horrible night really.
Shame as the site is lovely and well staffed. The quiet rule needs enforcing. At £22 it would have been good value too.

This site is in a great location if you are in to boating or canoeing, as it is located right on the shore of Lake Windermere, and you are able to launch your boat/canoe from the site.
The touring section for caravans and motor homes is set in a wooded area, on gravel. This took some getting used to as we are more used to 'grassy' sites and also being in the wood meant we didn't get any of the evening sun.
The toilet/shower block was spotlessly clean and was accessed by using a key. This worked well as it stopped casual visitors to the lake using the facilities, but perhaps two keys could be issued per family, one for males and one for females.
The surrounding area is lovely, plenty to do in Bowness, such as boat rides or hiring pedalos, good shops and plenty of places to eat. We had some nice fish and chips here. Windermere has the famous Lakeland shop, great to look around, could have spent hours in there.
The area is fantastic for walking and we managed to do three during the week. Easedale Tarn was our favourite, walking up the side of a waterfall and reaching the tarn at the top. Quite a sight. We were also blessed with the weather, having only one day's rain during the whole week.
There is a small Tesco and Co-op in Bowness, and a Booths supermarket in Windermere next to the bus/train station, but we found a Morrisons in Kendall which we preferred.
We would use this site again, but would also like to explore other areas of the Lake District.

Just returned from a long weekend and this is a really pleasant site. Everyone was extremely friendly the toilet and shower facilities were always clean and the reception had a small but well stocked shop. The site is right on the lake and perfect for those who like water activities
There are downsides to this site though. It is on a very steep incline and depending on your location there will be a hill to contend with either to visit the reception or toilets/showers. The pitches vary in size and some are uneven.
We have a very energetic dog who loves nothing better than a swim in the lake and good long walks but this site is restricted given its location on a steep hill.
This is a perfectly good site and from the people we met extremely popular but with no access to a car we felt quite isolated at this site given the lack of easily accessible walks and would have struggled to keep busy had we stayed longer.

Just got back from a wet weekend at Hill of Oaks, entrance to site very twisty but nothing we couldn't get our 23 foot unit round. Nice warm welcome from the staff in the reception which is beautifully situated right next to the Lake.
Pitches are all hard standing and very generous in proportions although ours was not completely flat, as noted by previous reviewers. TV reception is via a communal system which was connected to by an aerial socket on the pitch service point - cables were available at reception for a very reasonable £6.50 although reception is analogue only.
The only sound we heard after 8 o'clock was the stream running behind our pitch, very therapeutic!
Looking forward to coming back to this site in the summer when the beautiful autumnal colours of the trees will be replaced with green leaves and blue sky!
Would definitely recommend

This is a lovely secluded site, with very friendly wardens. We had a lakeside pitch which was ideal for launching our dinghy, although a little on the small side for our 25 ft Sterling Eccles.
The toilet/shower blocks and facilities are quite a long hike up a steep part of the site, so not recommended for the infirm or unfit although we did have water and tv hook up.
There was no mobile phone reception here on orange but there is a telephone box on site and the shop is well stocked for the essentials.
The rest of the touring pitches are within easy reach of the shower blocks and those pitches are of a very good size. The scenery is fabulous but the majority of this site is shaded under the fabulous greenery, if you are a sun lover then this may not be the place for you.
Bowness is approximately 5 miles away and there are no pubs or restaurants within walking distance.
Hill of Oaks was ideal for what we wanted and we will definitely be returning in the near future.

Stayed here for our summer holiday with friends, family of 6 (3 kids, a dog and us). Excellent site, Toilet block very good, showers excellent.
Pitches we were on were good, some did look a bit sloped so come prepared.
All staff very helpful and friendly, kids spent most of time on site down by the lake playing about in the water on a canoe or Topper, when not in the water spent some time fishing.
Mobile phone reception is pretty poor, not a problem specific to the site, seems to be a general problem for the whole area. Vodafone was fine, O2 and Three had no signal at all.
Had problems following directions on website to get to site so please make sure you have a good map and route planned out.
Would stay again.

Just returned from another fantastic week at this site. Much better now toilet block is accessed by a key but unfortunately this means the family / disabled room is left open and gets very dirty and not particularly pleasant to shower young children. This was a great bonus for this site and last year the kids loved it.
Hopefully this will be sorted for future years as it lets the site down a bit. Other than that helpful friendly staff and a great place to stay. Most pitches have water, electric and analogue tv reception on the pitch or if not on a neighbours pitch.

Hill of Oaks is as it sounds - set in woodland sloping down to the shores of Windermere.
It is well-signposted from the A592 and easy to find from Newby Bridge. I arrived when reception was shut and there were instructions at reception about which pitch to go to and how to get there. All hard-standing and some looked fairly sloping, so suggest check when you book or have your chocks when you get there. I don't, and was lucky and got as nice level pitch with hook up and fantastic owls as neighbours! Quite a few statics on site but tourers dotted around all over and some well-marked walking trails through the site (e.G. Squirrel trail, farm trail). Great views over Windermere from higher parts of the site.
Friendly and helpful staff, knowledgeable about the area (and potential bacterial hazard in the lake for dogs). Toilets, showers and washing up facilities great. Not many children on site as in school time but guess would be pretty child friendly and lone travellers may like to take this into account. No wifi access from the pitch I had - think you may need to take your laptop somewhere or use a PC? O2 and Orange coverage OK. Will definitely revisit.

Only spent one night at this site as we were touring the Lakes.
Had a fantastic pitch right on the edge of the lake, with hook up and water. Staff at site were very helpful and friendly. Lovely well stocked shop with good opening hours. Lovely very clean shower and toilet block. Fantastic location right by the lake, ideal if you had a boat and enjoyed water sports. Good walks in the woods for dogs, but a bit steep if you are not very fit.

Fantastic site, great for messing about on the lake.
Shop very good, bought a large dinghy with extras for a mere 30 quid all in and the loan of a pump to inflate it.
Showers very good.
Pitches massive.
Only five miles from Bowness, great walks for the dogs, the site is bigger than it looks, lots of statics hidden in the tree's
Kids rowed over to the sites own little island, bit of Swallows and Amazons.
Will stay again loved it.
